Why would anyone want to live on mars?

If anything they live in space.

I’d argue that isn’t happening either but I’m giving some leeway for the unknown.

Living on Mars was simply a gimmick so Elon had something to market or talk about.

No body would have been excited about “we are launching 40k more satellites into orbit”

How gravity affects the human species could be one main reason to live on a planet opposed to space itself. Extended periods of time in space alter even DNA. Being grounded, while going from point to point, could be a resolution to that complication of living off world.
