Ahh… so it just smears the person on the tracks to a bloody pulp rather than kills them instantly on impact…? ….brilliant. lol 😝 🤣

Tramsare not trains. They go as fast as car traffic in the city, so 50kph (before emergency braking). This just turns a tram accident into a milder impact closer to a car crash, since the front of the tram usually has stuff that isn’t as pedestrian-friendly as a car hood. 

Then it may prevent the person from being cut to pieces between the rail and the wheels while the tram is coming to a stop over a short distance.

Car hoods are designed to have people fall onto it, instead of underneath the car and wheels. This results in leg injuries instead of vital organ injuries.

The lack of such a design is part of what makes SUVs and trucks way more deadly.

"Friendly" might not be the best word, but they do have safety features with pedestrians in mind.

You can't drive a cybertruck in Europe exactly for this reason. It's a deathtrap for everyone, including the driver.

I did say "except SUVs and trucks". Cybertrucks are illegal in the EU because they lack this kind of safety features (and many more).

I was just reacting to the "pedestrian friendly". No one denies the tram to be deadly. But pedestrian friendly? Come on!

Yeah nah, these trams can and do drive 60-70kph on overland routes to the agglomeration.

Yes, but not where pedestrians cross or where it’s shared with traffic. Not every discussion is a confrontational argument. And yes I hear your next objection, someone can yeet themselves in front of it in those high speed areas too, but it’s a lot less likely so this covers the most likely scenario: accidental collisions at station entry, or at city crossroads, both at lower speeds.

Dude i live there, there are tons of trams going along the main roads that lead into the surroundig towns and agglomeration and there are tons of unsecured pedestrian crossings.

It's slowly but surely being rebuild and the crossing are secured but there are still a lot of unsecured ones. We had more than a few accidents just on the line im using.
