My thought exactly

22

u/randomvandal 3h ago

Yes. It's pretty common nomenclature internationally.

15

u/Yagawood 3h ago

Yes, specifically in languages other than English.

In regions like Latin America, Spain, France, and Italy, rally drivers are explicitly and officially called "pilots" (piloto in Spanish/Portuguese, pilote in French).

7

u/janlaureys9 1h ago

Dutch as well: Rallypiloot

u/MPmad 18m ago

Funny, because I haven´t heard that one before. Only ´rallycoureur´ and ´rallyrijder'. Maybe it's a regional thing,

4

u/RagingTyrant74 1h ago

Pilot (or similar) means driver in a lot of romance languages.

10

u/JCB220685 3h ago

To be fair that guy is bloody flying

2

u/SexyMonad 1h ago

Would be 50x safer if he were 10m higher (with wings, of course).

u/t0mt0mt0m 1h ago

racecar

9

u/bbqduck-sf 1h ago

Spell that backwards

1

u/Feefifiddlyeyeoh 1h ago

“Pilot,” seems like a good word to me. I can drive a car, but that’s not the same as what this guy is doing.

Bot do bot things

Edit: FYI. OP is 100% a bot. Look at their karma and post history. I explained my reasoning further down in the thread so not sure what the downvotes are about...

7

u/R2D-Beuh 3h ago

That's not a bot thing, that's a " English as a foreign language " thing

-4

u/mekwall 3h ago

Yeah, 515k karma in 11m is definitely a foreign language thing...

6

u/R2D-Beuh 3h ago

It's probably a bot, but not because they said pilot

-1

u/mekwall 2h ago

That's basically what I meant by "bot do bot things." I agree that a human using "pilot" instead of "driver" could be perfectly understandable, especially if English isn't their first language. But this title was generated by a bot, so that explanation isn't really relevant here. I wasn't criticising a person's English - I was pointing out that the bot produced a slightly odd title.

1

u/R2D-Beuh 2h ago

Fair enough

69

u/Feine13 3h ago

My dumbass was like "how is he driving that car while facing the wrong way? Incredible...

Oh. it's a split screen."

u/immoT74 3h ago

5

u/nach0srule 1h ago

Damn, these things are fast!

6

u/Feine13 3h ago

I told you to stop posting pictures of me on the internet!

1

u/immoT74 3h ago

Sorry, I didn't get the memo.

26

u/GlykenT 3h ago

I wish more of these had the audio of the co-driver reading the pace notes

12

u/Nulovka 1h ago

u/cuzitsthere 59m ago

Lmao holy fuck is that the actual audio?

"Don't tell me how to drive"

One of the greatest vids ever

u/Over9000Zeros 31m ago

This is actually the first video where I haven't heard the co pilot. They probably have sound systems in their helmets now.

8

u/TheDiscord1988 2h ago

Listen to me, Samir!

6

u/Homelandr 2h ago

Shut up..!, don't tell me how to drive

13

u/chillhopmusic13 3h ago

Imagine a rally car going through your house

9

u/FitPreparation2884 3h ago

The amount of trust they have for rally car drivers is bonkers.

Do you think the those houses are currently occupied? If so that’s wild

3

u/chillhopmusic13 2h ago

You can see cars at some buildings so im assuming so

4

u/obi1kennoble 1h ago

Would be a boon as long as you weren't standing there. Rally organizers have excellent insurance. They always leave the place in better shape than it was in when they showed up. They fix potholes and sometimes rebuild entire roads if they get messed up enough. They pay locals to do the work, community gets a slight upgrade and money from tourism. Everybody wins.

10

u/JK_NC 3h ago

That guy didn’t come to a complete stop at that sign. Someone gonna turn him in or what?

18

u/lazylix 3h ago

Thats just a rally drivers pov?

25

u/ygy2020 3h ago

no is not, above is a go pro from the car roof, below is go pro to show the driver face. No pov from driver given in this video.

13

u/Stanowu 4h ago

Gimme some of them pixels

12

u/maso0164 3h ago

Finish your dinner first, then you can have some pixels as a treat.

5

u/SpecialNeeds963 3h ago

If you don't eat your meat, yah can't have any pudding!

2

u/work_work-work 2h ago

How can ya have any pudding if ya don't eat ya meat?!

1

u/Panorabifle 2h ago

No, no. It's really how rally drivers see. It's wild right ?

8

u/Groundbreaking-Bag24 3h ago

This is how my cousin drives in the Jamaican countryside at night

2

u/SonOfSquizzlr 3h ago

I get sick reading in the car on a smooth road at a steady pace. The fact that these copilots are reading and reporting to the driver while blazing across rough terrain and sweeping turns at high speeds is incredible to me lol

2

u/JustSomeUsername99 2h ago

Why do they turn the mini map off. Those racing games are always easier with it on!

2

u/Photodan24 2h ago

He sees blurry pixelated shit?

2

u/Imzocrazy 1h ago

It would’ve been nice if we actually got the drivers pov like the title says instead of the rooftop fish-eye GoPro

3

u/whereswa1den 3h ago

I'd have PTSD for the rest of my life if I were in that car for even a couple minutes.

4

u/mookanana 2h ago

there's a real long stretch of road he deove through there, especially one small town where there are clearly people working and parked there

i wonder whether and how they made sure everyone was warned before they tore through the place

3

u/alltheothersrtaken 1h ago

Of course it's closed off to the public during the rally. Rally is done on public roads.

2

u/Dibble_Dabble_Doo 3h ago

I always imagine that driving in some rural area that a farmer didn't get the memo and a car would pull up right behind him.

https://giphy.com/gifs/gi9cDoSWZqsRcFnquZ

2

u/Tupcek 1h ago

you mean like this?

1

u/Iamoggierock 2h ago

Uber driver 5 stars.

1

u/The_Mutton_Man 2h ago

Do they get to practice the track?

u/scuderia91 3m ago

Nope, that’s the whole gimmick with rallying. It’s all done off the co drivers pace notes. I think they can drive the course but it’s at slow speed in a normal car, and given how long the courses can be you’re not going to memorise it like a circuit driver would on a track.

1

u/Cruel2BEkind12 2h ago

Not even close to what a rally driver sees. Much less view and a static camera doesn't show all the bumps and G forces tearing your head in all directions.

1

u/Marcusf83 2h ago

So next up here mate you wanna do a U-turn

1

u/zepsutyKalafiorek 2h ago

Mindblowing control.

1

u/RonnieB47 1h ago

Usually these rallys have tons of spectators out there. Where is everybody?

1

u/dances-in-fire 1h ago

Its not uncommon for some areas of a stage to have little or no spectators. Some areas have limited spectator access, people go to more popular areas, as well as go to more technical parts of a stage.

1

u/NoPepper259 1h ago

Awesome

1

u/Slayrr_FbrC 1h ago

I always loved Rallye, especially back in the 80's and 90's.

You want me to drive through a tree lined alley at 200kmh? Drift around a corner right next to a cliff? Bomb it through crowds of spectators so fast we collect fingers in our air intakes?

Sure!

1

u/LivinRightNBeinFree 1h ago

At first, I was wondering what was up with the two random bales if hay but then I realized it helps to slow them down before they hit the town part.

1

u/Fearless_Coconut_810 1h ago

This is like my daily commute through DFW but replace the trees with people that don't know how to drive

u/NowIsThePerfectTime 38m ago

I hope these guys make 25x what the nascar guys make, thought I doubt it.

u/ivanavich 20m ago

Pilot… driver… Hrm - bot

u/milanorlovszki 15m ago

Balls of galvanized titanium

1

u/Method__Man 3h ago

"pilot"

0

u/Yagawood 1h ago

Yes, that's literally what they're called.

1

u/TRUEequalsFALSE 3h ago

"Pilot"...?

2

u/Yagawood 1h ago

Literally what they're called.

1

u/RefrigeratorNo3299 3h ago

This is why i never like asphalt tracks in rally games, they felt terrifying, i can especially remember the german rally to be so high speed with narrow roads.

1

u/jfree3000 3h ago

I counted at least 20 ways I could die in just the first 15 seconds of that clip.

1

u/Xelpmoc45 3h ago

The fact that this video is not speed up is absolutely mind blowing to me

1

u/WertDafurk 3h ago

All wheel drive is zero wheel wheel drive if your foot is on the brake. More faster = more better 💨

1

u/Avatar_Blues 3h ago

No co-driver/navigator sound? Ugh..

1

u/RCuber 3h ago

I've never actually check how fase these cars can go. Can someone tell me about it?

1

u/corobo 3h ago

Rally pilot needs glasses

1

u/Key-Half1655 2h ago

Thats not what the driver sees, thats a roof cam

-1

u/Imaginary_Coat441 4h ago

Hell to the no.

-1

u/Financial_Ant_7640 3h ago

Not just a rally car driver, a RED BULL rally car driver.

-2

u/ParreNagga 3h ago

3

u/Yagawood 3h ago

In regions like Latin America, Spain, France, and Italy, rally drivers are explicitly and officially called "pilots" (piloto in Spanish/Portuguese, pilote in French).

1

u/Le_Gluglu 3h ago

It depends on your country or language.

In France, we use the term *conducteur* (driver) for driving in built-up areas, on roads, and on highways (driver's license).

And we use *pilote* (pilot/racer) for car and motorcycle racing.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case in other countries too.

It's possible the OP made a translation error.

-2

u/ParreNagga 3h ago edited 2h ago

Yeah.. but the post is in English..

And the bot needs to learn.
