I won a sash at the OSCOV Victorian Orchid Spectacular here in Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺!! My plant was also taken for photography to be nominated for Victorian Orchid of the Year! Definitely not expecting to win but maybe it could win in its class?

Decided to cut ✂️ the flowers off to give her a break after near constant blooms since March:)

I bought this orchid on clearance after the flowers had dropped, and this is its first time blooming! I didn't find a lot of information on this particular variety so it was a bit of a surprise and I'm soooo in love with it! It has a faint fragrance too, a bit like honeysuckle.

She's fragrant!! Just got back from a wedding to this beautiful bloom.

I went to my nans the other day, and I thought I shared this picture of my nan orchid she has had for 3/4 years and she waters when she remembers, but it's flowers every year and it looks rather healthy

Its taken days for it too open all the way an mature and the red has increased. It is also now fragrent! Its like daffodils and something else. And its strong becuse i can still smell it with rinhovirus (a cold)! Wooo!

Hello! I just joined this sub and am looking forward to learning more, sharing in victories, and supporting others where I may!

I picked up these 8 new orchids last week to add to my collection (6 Vanda, 1 Dendrobium, and 1 Rhychostyris)... though I'm new to Vanda and Rhy., I am stoked to keep them healthy and earn flowers from them as we grow together!

As I understand it, the Vanda, in particular, generally require a little more attention. I plan to secure a more permanent home for them in the house, making watering easier/more frequent, and likely keeping in a more humid area.

With that said, I would love suggestions or pictures of your setups for these genera specifically while keeping them indoor. I was thinking about building a cedar rack and adding a humidity tray with a nearby localized humidifier/fan (but more permanent and well-designed than what I have pictured). I'm not sure an indoor greenhouse setup is necessary and would like to avoid too "ugly" of a placement, but I'm open to ideas. I live in Raleigh, NC and haven't had issue with my other orchids (Oncidium, Dendrobium, Cattleya, Phalaenopsis) as long as I'm not away too long. Thank you! 💜

No ID Vanda I got as a rescue, so happy with how it’s done. Got it in November 2023 with 4 leaves near death, now it has almost 20 with an 11 inch wingspan. Crazy how hardy they can be, can’t wait to see it bloom (greatly appreciated if anyone has input on when I can expect to see a first bloom!).

Growing indoors under a Sansi Aspect pendant light. Media is lava rock and hydroton. With this media I can water daily without risk of rot. Look at that fat pseudobulb that matured before the bloom!

I check out this Orchid shop along the mountain highway near the beach. Recently yearning for an orange-peachy orchid, I came across a couple solid candidates. My search continued. I did one final loop and BAM I found this beautiful water colored kind of pattern 💜 🩷it was the only one like this and struck me instantly with it's beauty. Hehe

It's a bit different than what I originally wanted, and I'm also soooo excited to have it. Does anyone know what the coloring is called? I'm obsessed.

just popped open overnight, second bloom this year, this same plant won an award at an orchid show back in April

Has anyone used this bark with success?

I just repotted my very first orchid, but it keeps drying out really quickly because the bark never actually absorbs the water.

I soaked it for close to an hour last night, but the bark (and roots) already look dry today.

Purchased this in mid-June, and it was blooming. Now it gave me another spike and blooming again already.

This is what I believe is a Magic art phalaenopsis. It is close to my most valuable orchid (a paphiopedilum), so I really want to know what you guys think! It is in high light (southern window, but partly behind a pole)

I cut my orchid a couple months ago and recently it’s been growing a new leaf at one end. I’m worried it’ll get a little tall.

Should I be concerned with where the new leaf is sprouting? (It’s my first time having an orchid survive until now)

I have had this Phal for years. All of a sudden it looks like it's dying. I water it once a week. It's by a window where it gets a lot of indirect sun. I do give it weekly fertilizer with watering.

Dear humans of the orchid community, I need your help to Identify these orchids for me. Last week I went to a local nursery with my parents and I bought these 3. The first one is Cattleya, 2nd is cymbidium and the third is phalaenopsis. Please help me out guys I really need their names for future studies or other purposes. These pictures are taken from online ( mine are still seedling so I don't have pictures of them but these are identical to them especially the first one )

His care is I moist the bed whenever dry and keep it by a humidifier.

He was doing good but above the humidifier is a fan and after constant use of it I Believe the constant cold killed 1/3 leaves now only two.

I moved him to an area with more sunlight and had a routine of switching it back and forth when the fan is it. He is somehow dying more

The only other thing I did was spray his roots with miracle grow fertilizer, it was only a little. I used it before and saw progress and thought it was safe. Please help I had him for like 3 years, I only just stared trying to take care of him and he somehow lost a leg.
