My oil painting Lore of neon dogs made it to the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize finals (Emerging Artist category)

I don't know a ton about painting techniques to know if this is the right place to post, so forgive me if not. She grew up doing henna on herself and her Indian family, and eventually moved to a different medium on canvas, but using the same techniques. She doesn't use a brush, just a henna cone. She freehands everything besides the basic shapes, when she uses a compass to get curves right for symmetry.

First real attempt at making good art.

It was so fun and rewarding, i kept getting more excited as the painting came together. Studying the details that make up my favorite people had me totally immersed in the love i feel for them. It was a very nice experience!

My self-critiques: i wish i didn’t put anything in the window, it wasn’t even meant to be a window just a shelf with an unseen light source.

The way the fabric flows on his shoulder isn’t right, it bothers me. Part of it is i messed up and made his shoulder too large in general.

Just finished painting this helmet and I tried a new technique on the dragon side and I think it turned out better than the tigers. What do you guys think ?

I’ve always loved art but I’ve only done about 10 paintings in my whole life. This was my first attempt at hands and facial features. My biggest regret is my texture. I’ve usually done landscapes in the past so texture added to it. I don’t have anyone else to share it with so I figured I would post here! I’m very proud I was able to pull this off and excited to keep going. Second photo is my reference, the beautiful White Diamond from Steven Universe.

I may be slightly obsessed with painting my cats in silly portraits ATM. This is Percy and his markings look like a cowl so I figured I'd make him Zorro .

I make a lot of these types of paintings, but they seem to be a hit or miss. People at shows either have a ton of questions and rave about them and ask for prints, and some just walk away. Do you think it’s a little too busy, or maybe lacking interest like in the form of a narrative? Just trying to get ideas in how to shift my designs and evolve in the future.
