General Question Rodent Poison & Cats

Upvotes

We have mice. The pest control guy came out and gave us an estimate for general pest control and putting out bait boxes for the mice. I expressed to him that my cats eat rodents (actually eat, not just play with or kill and leave it) and my concern with poison is that they’ll eat a mouse that has poison in its system. The man told me that poison they use is counteracted by vitamin K and that since vitamin K is in cat food, they would basically be counteracting it when they eat their food. He didn’t give me the poison’s name. Is there any truth to this?

Rat in the washing machine

Upvotes

Hi!

As the title says I have a rat living in my washing machine since last Friday. I don't know where, I already took off the back panel, but can't see it.

First I tried to trap it into a bucket, by building a ramp, but it ate all the food and climbed out. Then I bought traps (both mouse and rat) but it ignored them. Then I placed down cardboard with glue around the machine. Tonight I heard screeching, went inside the bathroom and there it was, a brown rat, with the gluey cardboard all around the place. We had a half hour standoff when I first tried to catch it, then after losing my patience, just trying to kill it without destroying the tiles in the bathroom. Obviously I lost the fight and it escaped back to the machine.

I already had a pest control guy come and since he believed that it must be a mouse he placed a couple of those black mouse poison boxes down, which obviously won't do anything since the rat won't even fit inside.

My question is how do I get rid of it as fast as possible without it dying and rotting inside my washing machine? Is there anything besides food that would make it leave? I was thinking of sealing the holes and filling it with smoke, would it try to escape? I can also start disassembling the machine, but I'd prefer not having a terrified rat jump on my face. If I call pest control, will they be able to get it out?

I am quite done with this thing shitting and pissing around our only bathroom. I take literally any advice.

A mouse in the house

Upvotes

Just had a mouse run into the bathroom while I was on the toilet. I screamed and it ran off. I’m in a studio flat unfortunately so the only other door I can close is the kitchen. I’ve left it open incase the mouse is hiding and waiting for me to sleep before it goes back there. I’m hoping that’s how it got in. It’s 1am in London and I’m too scared to look for the mouse.

I last had mice in April 2024 and there was a gap under the sink near the taps. I scrubbed the kitchen when it was daytime and made sure the mice were gone that time put wire wool down in the gaps there. I also have a noise machine thing that they don’t like as well permanently plugged into the wall (I haven’t unplugged it for 2 and a half years).

I’m in London in the UK and it’s cold tonight compared to the past three months. I got out of bed to close the window and put on a fleece top.

I’m hoping the mouse came in through the kitchen cause it was cold.

Please help. It seems to be following me. First into the bathroom and now into the bedroom area. Is that because I have the light on. Could it be just looking for a way out? Is it trying to attack me. I’m not sure what to do to stop it from following me.

Massive apologies for the poor quality of these photos. My wife took these before killing it. Is this a bed bug? We had bed bugs 6 weeks ago before moving. We’re also dealing with a German cockroach infestation in the new place.

Roaches Paid a security deposit on an apartment that may have a german roach infestation

Upvotes

The security deposit is refundable but I have not been able to look at the apartment yet. I know that pest control is working on the infestation but I don’t know exactly what the infestation is. I’m thinking German roaches. The apartment manager said I can tour as soon as it is ready in a week or two. Is that long enough to actually get rid of the infestation? If not should, what should I look for when doing my tour to see if there is still an infestation? Lastly, if I see signs of an infestation could I still move in and use boric acid as well as gel bait? I know this sounds crazy but the apartment is really cheap and in an area I want to live in. Thanks

General Question Is a dehumidifier the best solution to remove all the silverfishes in my room? read my case please

I live in a students dorm, my room is 20 square meters and I have silverfishes on the walls and floors. I vacuum every 3 days and I also change the air a lot besides using traps since months and spray them. The problem is that this room has a lot of open spots in the walls near the ceiling and once they are in your room they don't go away. The dorm doesn't care. Is a dehumidifier my only hope? what do you think about COMFEE Dehumidifier 12 litres/day. Please let me know, I'm losing my mind they are disgusting.

One got trapped in a fruit fly trap and the second one was found dead on the floor. 4 days apart. I had DE (food grade) on the baseboards last week from Monday through Thursday pre-flea treatment which happened on Friday.

New apartment I moved to 2 weeks ago.

EDIT to say sorry i should have put a coin or something for scale! These are very small like the size of a gnat, couple of millimetres.

We’ve put out glue traps for fleas and caught these. Are they definitely fleas? I’ve been bitten in this house intermittently for a few years usually around summer, since I don’t stay in this house permanently (it’s my dads - and he doesn’t get bitten and if he does he doesn’t develop marks, I get huge red itchy welts) then it’s never really been dealt with. We suspected bed bugs so treated for that 2 summers ago and I wasn’t really in the house last summer.

We DO NOT have pets, never have, and previous owner didn’t either apparently. We don’t wear shoes indoors. The downstairs neighbour is very dirty though and has a dog that to be honest is always itching itself lol. If these photos do look like fleas, could they be coming from downstairs? In which case how to even solve this issue?

Also I am not in USA unfortunately, I am in Scotland and idek if pest control has expertise on this sort of thing cause all the info I read is for people with pets.

Black rats, trying to rat proof this:

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello!

Living in a rental. The floor boards are like this from when the landlord got rid of the staircase between the upper and lower floors before our tenancy. We have seen black rats and caught 2 so far with peanut butter snap traps.

Trying to rat proof the possible entries. What would I do about the floor boards? Is it worth getting the landlord to repair and is there something I can block it with in the meantime?

Thank you!

I apologize for the bad quality of the picture. Found dead in front of my kitchen sink. I haven't seen any live ones in the day or at night. I have lids on every trash and don't leave food out for long. My kitchen has a lot of weird hollow spaces that I can't check, so I'm very concerned that I have some kind of infestation and want to react as fast as possible. Thank you!
