I relocated here from SWFL about a year and a half ago, so i've seen some pretty massive reptile/lizards.

I know theres plenty of anoles here as there are in south florida, but I've not seen one quite this size here in Texas yet. This fella was climbing up my tree over by Park Bridge.

What could it be?

Yatai Ramen on Coit and Park

Does anyone know what happened, or if they'll be reopening anywhere else, even a different type of restaurant? That was our go-to ramen place and I miss it.

Need help in identifying a location of an image taken in the 1980s

This image is from the Plano Public Library Collin County Images archive and indicates it is Coit Road south of Plano Parkway likely in the early 1980s. I assume this is looking north on Coit Rd. It appears to curve to the right in the background and then crosses a railroad crossing so I believe it is this location:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/6BbixfnZwMirAmyBA

I originally thought it was part of John Paul II High School but that building is further north of the railroad crossing. I have attached a closeup image of the original image, as well as a perspective on Coit Road from today. I also attached a 1989 satellite image from historical aerials website but it does not show this building.

My questions to my fellow Plano-ites are as follows 1. What is the large grey building on the right? 2. Why is it surrounded by a barbed wire fence, has a lookout tour and a super large radar dish?

You can view the original image here.

The double road curving upward is West Plano Parkway and it intersects Coit Road in the background. Some of these buildings are still here today, including the large cubed shaped structure towards the bottom right side near the railroad tracks. By the way, can anyone identify this building?

I looking into getting my AAS in respiratory therapy and I'm currently taking a break and will being going back in the spring. I'm currently looking for a job at the moment, and I've been looking on applying for entry level role in health care but have been having a hard time getting call backs and interviews, I do have some health care experience as a pharmacy technician and as well, I have my phlebotomy certification. I wanted to reach out and ask if anyone is currently looking for office/desk/ receptionists and if any places are currently hiring entry level health care positions. Thank you

How do you prepare for winter storms?

I've never lived through a winter colder than 50 degrees.

What should I know?

Does the power go out?

Do water lines freeze?

Is it similar to preparing for hurricanes?

Minor home repair volunteers needed for City of Plano's Love Where You Live Fall Service Day

A new episode of Inside Plano is up! Watch the full episode now: https://youtu.be/SeJC-7-YkY0 This month, we’re talking with Plano Neighborhood Services about what helps neighborhoods stay strong, connected and well cared for. We also explore homeowner resources and ways residents can get involved.

In the conversation, we discuss Love Where You Live, where volunteers help with projects like landscaping, painting, fence repair and neighborhood cleanup. Sometimes, all it takes is a few people willing to help, and the City can provide tools and support to help get the work done!

We’re currently in need of volunteers for our Love Where You Live Fall Service Day on Saturday, September 26 in Meadows Addition.
Register as a group or individual and come ready to lend a hand: Plano.gov/love-where-you-live

Cheap, acceptable landscaping

I searched the sub, but didn't find quite what I'm looking for. Most people ask for a "good" landscaper. I'm not really interested in quality. I'm just looking for someone who has two arms and a pair of loppers.

I give exactly 0 fucks about my curb appeal but my wife is tired of the hedges tapping her on the shoulder as she walks up to the door. My mower guy doesn't do anything but mow, so looking for any recommendations for someone who can just trim this stuff back and clear it out inexpensively. It can't possibly look any worse than it does now.

Be diligent with Avenue 5 leasing properties in Plano

Hello all,

You may remember me from my "S2 Residential property management is evil" post about my water heater from a few months ago.

Welp ..... Avenue 5 bought my current place (The Ellington) and..... It's the same or worse. I swear this property is literally cursed.

The new management is just as useless as the old ones. My A/C has been out all weekend and they don't answer the phones from 5pm Friday till 9am Monday. Oh and I've put in maintenance requests that have been ignored.

Ah and I had to evac my place to get some A/C so I can sleep (unit is pushing 89F at night and is so stuffy and smells like meat) I open my garage door to see a literal WALL of garbage that almost blocked my car from being able to exit my garage.....

It's like a twilight zone episode.

Enjoy the garbage wall pic.

Are there any local daycares or other jobs that would allow a mother to enroll their infant while working there or to bring their infant to work?

Cost of raising a child in the Plano, Allen, and Mckinney area

Hi everyone!

My husband and I are currently on the fence about having kids, but we're leaning toward it. One of our biggest hang ups is honestly the cost, so we're trying to get a realistic idea of what it actually costs to raise a child in the Plano/Allen/McKinney area.
I'm interested in hearing from local parents about what you actually spend and what income you feel is needed to be comfortable while still being able to enjoy life.

A few things I'm particularly curious about:

  • Daycare: What are you paying for infants/toddlers? How much did it drop once they started school?
  • Extracurriculars: Sports, music, dance, clubs, etc. We're not planning on doing travel sports, but I'd like to have an idea of what regular activities cost.
  • Clothing: Roughly how much do you spend per year?
  • Teen expenses: How much do you find yourself spending on things like hanging out with friends, movies, food, activities, etc.?
  • Family travel: We love to travel and really want to continue doing that with kids. How often do you travel, where do you generally go, and what does it cost for your family?
  • Miscellaneous: Birthday/Christmas gifts, family outings, school expenses, random kid stuff, etc.
  • If you save for your kids' college, first car, or possibly helping with a future down payment, how much are you putting aside?

A little background on us:

  • We currently rent a small 3-bedroom house in Plano for about $2,100/month, but we'd probably want something bigger within the next few years.
  • We plan to use public schools.
  • I'm a teacher, so we wouldn’t  need the same amount of childcare during summers/school breaks.
  • My husband has no student loan debt, and I'll have mine paid off within the next 2 years.
  • We mostly eat at home.
  • We would like to save for their future:  help with college, first car, possibly helping with a future down payment.
  • We're pretty naturally frugal. We don't regularly buy new clothes, shoes, bags, etc. We tend to spend more on experiences than things.
  • We currently take a big trip about every other year and smaller/more affordable trips in between.

TIA

Tree Removal on 15th?

Post image
44 Upvotes

Anyone know what the plan is on 15th? They have cut down all of the trees that used to be in the median. Photo going east on 15th in front of Vines High School.

Right now it just looks like some sort of sad Lorax hellscape. Hoping there is a plan beyond just grinding down the stumps? Road expansion maybe?

Only things open are Neiman Marcus, a knife shop, a bridal shop, and lens crafters… Neiman Marcus has some markdowns for 75% off. Lots of old folks walking for fun.
