Discussion Prey difficulty and general experiences

One curious thing i noticed after i watched 7 different youtubers play prey is how some of them passed the game easy peasy while at maximum difficulty with all the challenges and others just kept dying over and over in the easiest one

Same thing whit recources a girl kept tearing the space station for resources because she was always short on things meanwhilr some guy had so many without trying even thought he was so wastefull that he started recycling the stuff for more inventory space

Some of them figured so many litlle nooks and cranies that the station really seemed like this massive place while one in particular(Alexelcapo) despite his best efforts didnt find shit and it felt like the station was this small empty place without much in it as a result

It was a very weird experience its like they were all playing a different game

Im watching an eight one and she somehow figured out how to get to the russian girl early in the story

This game wildly rewards exploration. If you play it like a scavenging survival game, you have ALL the resources and it becomes very easy. If you try to play it like a pure fps shooter and always go in guns blazing, you’re gonna have a hard time.

My last playthrough was basically an fps with the shotgun and psychoshock as my 2 main weapons and that was relatively easy. I already want to replay it with one of the gameplay mods I've seen on nexus

Earlygame is very brutal but it's a lot of fun.

There's a steam guide about it if you're ever stuck.

the game is as difficult as you make it. It is so complex that you could always figure out another way of doing things. (Fuck those military operators!!!)

the operators are so easy to kill! Disruptergun and and then loot them! Find Kaspa as soon as possible and kill this thing and there you go!

Zap 'em, then wack 'em! The one two punch!

With stealth perk and an upgraded stun gun, they're a one-shot kill

The military operators are so annoying, it's like being swarmed with bees. I always make sure to deactivate my tracker when I'm in deep storage, just for the peace of mind.

Stockpiling EMP grenades early makes those later sections a breeze. Environmental hazards like the arc traps/broken panels can take'm out too.

Oh and also just reading the research and doing it helps.

Gurantee some people are gonna be shooting bullets at big typhon or operators when it resists those things.

Or how technopaths used to be terrifying until I found they can be rendered harmless with a simple emp grenade. Or stun gun dmgs them and stun locks them.

The stungun is stupidly powerful if you don’t use it as a stungun

I usually hit the technopath with that nullify wave ability. Frees everyone in his control and he becomes a fleeing lil bitch. 🤣🤣 I didn’t realize at first how little health he has, either

Telepath is that. Granted its two moves are the projectiles or the big boom shockwave.

I just try to get them in an area where they go high so i can gloo for the gravity kill

I’ll be honest, I treat them the same cuz I don’t know the difference. 🤣

Ones for tech and the other for organics.

Telepaths are only susceptible to to null wave while null wave and emp works on techno. Also stun gun only stuns Telepaths while techno take dmg and stunned.

It's a game that rewards exploring and knowing your tools rather than a specific fps.

Like I had 100 of each material by the halfway point, maxed out the neuromods on the skills I wanted to take, maxed out upgrades on every weapon but the shotgun (which I didn't use because it would be shotgun everything).

It also helps just thinking creatively.

Like one of my favourite strats for the first etheric phantom after coming back from hardware labs is to lure it to the glass platforms, stun it then shoot the glass. Gravity one shots it every time.

I hope you said 'shoot the glass' in a German accent before you did it.

... I love using my wrench for killing everything! It took me over 80 hours for my playtrough - because I took my time. I did not play linear, means I explored everything BEFORE the Story told me to do. I also "cleaned" an area at first and then I loot - I tried to get everything as soon as possible. The more you are in the Story the more difficult it becomes to do stuff.

When Dahl came to the station I had everything prepared and it only took me about a few min to catch him and to destroy KASPAR - because I did every step ahead without being in "danger"

Honestly those 80 hours where 80 absolutely amazing hours =))

Talos I is about exploring, taking your time, looting, having fun - so many challenges

I played StoryMode - because I hate shooter, the first hours I always got goosebumbs when killing mimics. After a while I loved wrenching them to smashed potatoes =)) The only thing I really hated was the Nightmare (I always hide) and the Poltergeist,

That's the fun part of immersive sims. Two people having two completely different experiences in the same game.

one thing that cuts down a kind of difficulty is that locational damage isn't really a thing and most things move fairly slowly so very easy to hit

I played on normal with survival settings turned on and found it pretty reasonable.
I explored a lot, got a lot of upgrades and neuromods, utilized turrets and GLOO, I still died occasionally cuz the enemies hit like trucks but I also saved a lot so I never lost a ton of progress.
