Help

Was in New York for holiday and seen the shirt had to pick up as the name and colours as my football team in Scotland. So what’s all the important information I should know to help me understand the team more in depth beyond generic Google

Tied for 4th oldest team in the league, we’re called one of the “original six.” That being said, this team is a bridesmaid and never the bride, we’ve won 4 championships in 100 years.. but we’ve gone deep a lot and lately have had large swaths of successful seasons.

The Rangers (or NYR) swing big on lots of free agent talent but have a history of not being very good at developing their own.

We hate the New Jersey Devils, the New York Islanders (it’s a different part of New York State), the Boston Bruins (anything Boston is bad for NYC), and have bad history with a handful of other teams.

In their 100 years, their most recent 20 have been defined largely by all-world goalie talent. It’s kind of our bread and butter lately. Henrik Lundqvist is the man.

The team is owned by a real fucking piece of shit loser named James Dolan. He’s a bad owner and a worse guy. Our management seems to be controlled by a shadowy dark figure named Glen Sather who once won some cups (championships). The team usually doesn’t make genius moves, sometimes makes bad ones, occasionally walks into a good one.

This is spot on. We are one of the most "successful" teams in the league, historically (in that we have had many good to great seasons with reasonable, consistent playoff success, meaning able to win a round or 2), but we lack the hardware to show for it. Despite the lack of championships, we're hated league-wide like we're the Yankees lmao.

Some of my friends are non NYR fans and they recently were like “rangers suck” and I had to remind them they went to the ECF twice in the last 5 years lol. When you’re not a fan you sometimes forget how deep a team goes unless they’re in the SCF

I’m guessing you won’t be buying this kit then? Heh.

NYR are more like Aberdeen FC than Glasgow Rangers in terms of success.

NY also hates a team called Celtic(s) too.

This might help:

We've won exactly once in both mine and my father's lifetimes, back in 1994.

It was the best damned day ever.

And we got fucked by the lockout following that, and never had the chance to do it again really.
