Does anyone else get severely depressed when not running?

This is the first year I’ve taken running seriously where I’m doing it multiple times a week. I’ve been doing it since about August last year. I’ve upped my mileage and am making progress towards my goals.

Going out for runs has been easy and I feel like I genuinely enjoy it. Running makes me feel good (aside from my bad knees).

I’ve gotten to the point however, in trying to prevent injury, I have to take a rest day or two to preserve my knees.

On the days I don’t run, I’ve been feeling severely fucking down. I’ve never felt this in my life I swear to god. It feels like my nervous system is bombarding me with sadness lmao. I’m not usually one to wallow.

I had to run twice in one day the other day to get myself in a better mood. (8 miles in the morning, 3 miles in the evening).

I can’t stand this.

Runners... what's one thing you secretly HATE about running?

For me is waking up early. Especially in winter. Every time I have to fight myself just to get out of bed. The run itself is fine, but the getting up part is brutal. What's yours?

Running during Luteal phase

Hey fam,
24-year-old female runner here!
Thanks to my Garmin and Strava, I’ve been able to see some pretty crazy patterns in my running. Every week before my period (during the luteal phase), I struggle to produce good runs. Even crazier, every single PR in my record book has been set on the last day of my period.

I’ve always hated the ads and influencers who say, “Train for your cycle,” because I feel like they’re always pushing people to do less. I have to admit, though, my cycle seems to have a pretty significant impact on my performance.

This makes me wonder about professional athletes and whether their races are affected by their menstrual cycles. I have an 18-mile race scheduled for the week before my period, and I’m worried I won’t perform my best because of it. How do professional athletes handle this?

Do you have a route you save for days when you really don’t want to run?

Not your fastest route or the one with the best stats—just the one that makes getting out the door easier.

Maybe it has good shade, fewer intersections, a coffee shop halfway through, or one view that always helps. On low-motivation days, the route can matter more than the workout.

What makes your “I almost skipped today” route work?

Sub 45min 10K

Hey guys, I’ll be running a 10k race in approx 4 weeks and would love to hit 45mins if possible.
My best 5k time this year was a 22:20 3 weeks ago, have been following a runna plan with one interval, one easy and one long run per week, and managed 4x1km intervals today at 4:20-4:25/km.
Is a sub 45 doable, and any advice on a good pacing strategy? Thank you!

Obituary for my favorite running shoes.

Upvotes

You were amazing. You were there when I had the thought, "8km doesn't seem like a long run anymore".. You were there for me when I reached the "10 km doesn't seem so long anymore" and you have been there for the 15km runs that sparked the thought..."Maybe a half marathon isn't impossible..."

Thank you for all of the KM's that i could have never imagined being able to run when I first started.

RIP Kinvara Pro

Running shoe for flat foot and plantar fischitis.

Thinking of getting a running shoe. When I ask Google it comes up with the brooks adrenaline GTS 25 would be the best choice for the type of foot I have. Anyone have any other options or shoes I should look into. I went to the store and I tried them on and they were comfortable. It just felt very awkward as right now I use barefoot shoes from xero.

Nothing fix a bad day faster than a solid run

Running has been good for my mental health. No matter how stressed or drained I feel, going for a run completely resets my brain every single time. It's wild how just 20 minutes on the pavement can instantly flip my entire mood around. If you’re ever feeling down, I can’t recommend putting on your sneakers enough

What gets you out the door when you REALLY don’t feel like running?

You know those days where you’re tired, not motivated, and suddenly every excuse sounds completely reasonable. What actually gets you started?

Music? Telling yourself “just 10 minutes”? A running buddy? Pure guilt?

How long does it take to stop feeling like a beginner?

I've been running for about 2-3 months now, around 3 times a week. So I should probably be past the "beginner" stage by now, but every time I hit the 2k mark, I still feel like I'm running for the first time — tired, breathing heavy. Is it because I'm not running enough each week? Or is this just how it is?

Do people who've been running for years still feel this way sometimes? Or does it never fully go away?

Newbie question: how to carry water when going on a light (5-8km) outdoor run?

Hi everyone I'm a new runner and taking things easy, it's starting to cool down in my area and I'm considering going on outdoor easy runs (zone 2, 5-8km). I can't figure out the water situation: do i have to buy a running vest to carry water bottle, or do people have better solutions? I also read somewhere that apparently it's ok to run <10km without water, but i'm wondering what people usually do. Is there a low cost solution without investing in a vest? Would appreciate any recommendations, thanks a lot!

Anyone else ever get weirdly emotional on a run?

Like… happy tears emotional 😂

Sometimes the music + the view + realizing I’m actually doing this just gets me.

Please tell me this is a thing.

Help with Shoes

I recently signed up for a half marathon. First jump from doing 5-10k's. Never owned a pair of running shoes before.

Did some research and people talked alot about the Novablast 5s and the Ghost Max series

I went with the Novablast 5s. Had them delivered to work so people didn't steal them and was excited so wore them for the whole day.

That feeling was honestly amazing and haven't had shoes that feel this good in a long time. My day to day shoes are the Under Armour Charged Surge 4.

Do yall have recommendations for day to day shoes? Is there a problem with wearing running shoes as day to day shoes?

My latest snack before the early morning run was a piece of low-fat Crazy Cake. What is your favorite pre-run snack?

In the first pic, this is how I wear it initially, when I start running, then after 10-15 mins one side goes up relative to the other and the cloth rubs against the other skin and and it starts hurting while running, what type of underwear should of wear, rn it's not very tight but it's a fit look

First 10k!

I’ve ran 6 miles a few times but this was my first time pushing it to 10k. My legs felt heavy today so definitely not the best day to go for it but I was feeling ambitious…I didn’t know I was so close to my sub 60 goal, hoping to make it by my 10k race in November!

Started running 6 days a week may 26th, dropping down to 4-5 due to school starting back up!

Did anyone else's easy runs get harder once they actually started running them slow?

I've been running for about t seven months now, four times a week. I switched to running my easy days by heart rate instead of pace a few weeks ago, and my easy pace dropped to something like 11:30 which honestly felt embarrassing at first. The weird part is my legs feel more tired after these slow runs than they did when I was running everything at a normal pace.

Did your body need to adjust to running that slow before it actually felt easy?
