Pretty boards in these heavy aluminum telecom pieces! About 40 lbs each, but fairly easy to break down. The boards are about 2 lbs each.

This is from last 2 days of picking. Have a lot to cut. How long would all this take you?

The fuel prices have been really eating in to my profits per run.

I've maintained the same schedule but I've thought of altering my routes to save some gas.

Anyone changing up their routine or maintaining the status quo for now?

It may just need the coils blown free of dust for all I know.

Probably not worth putting money into it, rather just sell as is for less. Worst case scenario is taking it to the yard… is that still worth my time picking it up? Anyone scrapped these and might know what I could get for it? As is, or should I bust it down?

I lurk here, and am not a scrapper… every post on this sub is filled helpful comments… this just kinda fell into my lap and this was the first place I thought to go.

Best guess is this is an electric motor pole shoe without the windings. It is made of individual steel plates pressed together, and I am told the alloys used are somewhat specialized. It weighs just under 18 lb.

DON'T OPEN UP LITHIUM, NiCd or NiMH batteries!!

Here's the weights of the collector pin from various sized ALKALINE batteries, pulled from the negative terminal under the cap. The weight for the same size also varies, too, based on brand and manufacturer. Not worth my time at all.

Wear gloves, goggles and have some white vinegar available to neutralize the electrolyte on the pin and also in the battery, if needed. Also, make sure you dispose of the batteries as they are hazardous material. I used a rigid plastic container to hold mine.

They are messy but kinda fun to open up, watch out though as some may spray electrolyte with a little pop and they may get a little hot. Drop them into the vinegar bath to neutralize them and cool them down when they do.

Only Alkaline batteries have this brass pin. Heavy duty batteries have a carbon rod which can be useful.

9V alkaline batteries may have stacked cells or cylinder cells that are each AAAA. (Have yet to find one of the latter). Every heavy duty 9V uses stacked cells.

What is the best way to sort and segregate circuit board scrap in bulk quantities? I work for a metal recycler and need to pull out medium/high grade boards from mixed/lower grade boards. We have shaker tables but they are not that big. Do we just dump them on the ground and bend down? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been given this paper weight. They don’t make parts anymore for it and it needs a lot of love. Will scrap yards take them as is or do I need to take anything apart. Yes I know they won’t take the propane tank. Thank in advance

Cleaning up our yard at work and offered boss $200 and i tow it for this Fork lift. Its sat for few years and its diesel that needs rebuilt is all i know. Apologize for my ignorance

The ball of copper is lighter in color and seems to be shiner.

I had a pile of insulated copper cable sitting around, so I decided to see how much value I could actually recover from it.

Instead of stripping everything by hand, I used a small wire stripping machine and processed the cable myself.

The difference is pretty satisfying — insulated cable → clean bare copper. 🟠

What surprised me most was how much copper was actually hidden inside the insulation.

I recorded the whole process, including the stripping, sorting and the final result. If you're into copper recovery, scrap metal or just enjoy seeing what you can get out of old cable, I think you'll enjoy it.

I've got 20 or so brass radiators I'm hauling into town today, I'm looking for a way to find the best PPP I can, since it's an hour and a half away. Any leads on pricing, or a way to find prices on the web would be appreciated.

I wanted to ask if there's any toxicity or other dangers from breaking apart a ferrite core. I need some thin copper wire for a project and the best source would be from these PC powersource transformers, but I'm not sure if there's something I should watch out for regarding smashing the cores to bits. Except shorting out the caps in the psu. Thanks!

Really just whats in the title. I tried looking up what is breakage and was a bit confused. As a result from scrapping wires ive gained plugs and charging blocks. Do these count as breakage? Or something else?

Would it be best to take them to the scrap yard just incase or trash them?

Im fairly new to scraping and dont want to be in for a rude awakening at the scrap yard.

If you have a Med Care factory/warehouse in your area I recommend making them part of your regular pick ups. The past month I’ve pulled a lot of money out of their cans. Seems to be an endless supply of cords, motors, aluminum, and steel.

I am curious, i often see on YouTube that some people are melting Aluminum and other metals into bars.

Is that really a thing and practical?
Are this bars accepted in recycling yards?

I think its a great idea to safe space, but its a lot of extra work and might not worth the hassle, also i see problems when trying to sell this bars because they cant really check if its really pure aluminum and not mixed/conterminated with other materials.

Does anybody do it or has experience?
Would like to hear about your thoughts on this.
