Marketing Amazon printing delay

Is it just me, or does it seem that Amazon takes a long time to send you your author copies? I ordered 6 copies of my hardcover version. It is taking nearly 3 weeks to deliver them. In the meantime, friends and family who ordered the hardcover have received theirs within a week.

Welcome to r/selfpublish, No-Praline-3454! Please remember the primary first rule of the subreddit: No self promo posts outside of the pinned self promo thread. You can edit your own profile so you have links to your work or services and you can even post to and pin posts to the top of your profile page. The no self promo rule INCLUDES COMMENTS - so if you ignore this message it will result in a ban (if you’ve mentioned your book title in the post, remove it or delete the post.) Book cover reviews go in r/bookcovers.

Additionally, DO NOT USE AI TO WRITE YOUR COMMENTS OR MAKE POSTS. We want to keep the self in self publishing. Rule 2 also prohibits posts about AI. If your post is about AI, remove it.

If your post is low effort or simply for congratulatory purposes, please remove it and instead write your post in the pinned weekly thread. Example posts would be like “Finally published!” or “Just finished doing X! How has everyone else felt after doing X?”

The wiki contains answers to most basic questions. Please report any violating posts or comments. This automated message is added to every single post as a reminder of some of the most cardinal rules.

It's not just you. This happened right around the holidays last year. I get my author copies from Ingram Spark now and pay a little extra to get them within a week.

I think author copies are low priority compared to paid ones - its also why the printing can happen in random countries rather than your own.

This is how it goes. There's nothing we can do about it, this is Amazon's way, apparently. Some people can't even order proof or author copies at all.

Proof and author copies are at the end of the print line. They get no profit for Amazon, so they get no priority. Customers always come first, and we aren't customers.

I've noticed that proofs take the longest then small order of author copies is a little faster but when I ordered the 50 copies (shipping cost was the same for 40 vs 50 while I only needed 40 for book signing and book store stock) The bulk order came the fastest. The good part of is if proofs or author copies are delayed they don't charge shipping cost.

This is normal and has always been normal.
