This feature would be in the interest of privacy while also reducing the size of URLs shared by less technically savvy group members, creating less noise.

I understand sometimes query variables can be critical to a page's functionality, like a paywall gifted article code or a product variant on a shopping site. However, those things are less likely to come up in many group types so an option still makes sense IMO.

Hi, I´ve got one simple question about On-device backups: The documentation says: "On-device backups, available on Android and Desktop only, create encrypted backup files stored locally on your device and protected by a passphrase. These only work during Android device transfers or reinstalls ***on the same Android device***, requiring the backup file."

--> So what does this mean?

a) If you have only a local copy of the backup on the phone and the phone is lost / destroyed --> backup is gone too. But

b) If you have a copy (in the cloud e.g.) you can of course restore the backup on a new phone?

Well Android and iPhone are in the same boat. Obviously I may be missing something but from what I've read, if the manufacturers do indeed snoop, how is a secure app on top of it actually secure?

I'm attempting to send a music file by dragging the music file into chat. It used to work. NOW I get a message "Unable to attach selected file". I just tried to use the '+' button and navigate to the file and it worked. Is this a bug that I can't just drag and drop a file?

EDIT: Solved. per lajawi, I'm on Linux, and due to the recent 'icon missing from the taskbar' problem, I'd installed using a flatpak. I disinstalled the flatpak and installed via software manager and bingo, problem solved. Thank you lajawi! and thank you Chongulator for your help as well. :)

How protected is the Signal app when using the app lock feature (that locks it behind biometrics/PIN) in a situation where your phone is stolen while it's unlocked? My understanding is that the database isn't seperately encrypted like Molly's, so would it be possible for someone to extract your messages? If that's the case, is there anything more to do to secure it than using Molly?

Every damn time it tells me there's a problem with sending the verification code over and i should try again several hours later. EVERY SINGLE TIME. What do I do??

When my phone is locked I get the full message as a notification but when my phone is unlocked a message notification only comes through as the little Signal symbol at the very top of my screen, instead of the message popping down into view. I've been through my settings, both phone and app but everything seems to be in order. Does anyone else have this issue? Any tips?

I'm trying to transfer Signal from an iPhone 11 Pro Max to a Galaxy Flip 8. Both phones are fully updated.

The transfer consistently fails at the registration step, each time delivering the same message. "There was an error during registration"

I've been uninstalling and reinstalling signal on the Flip after each attempt so that the transfer occurs during the initial setup.

Any advice would be appreciated

Everywhere I look, the only advice to find archived chats seems to be to scroll to the bottom of the messages list but nothing about archives is down there, just the oldest active chat. It’s impossible that I’m scrolling downwards wrong so what is happening? Has anyone else experienced this?

I went to add someone to an active group chat today and Signal suggested dozens of old archived group chats that hadn’t realized still exist. I want to delete them but I can’t even seem to search by the group chat names or the people who participated in those chats to access them either.

I know I can send multiple photos / videos, but can I also send multiple files at once? I'm not able to select more files in the Android app.

Is this even possible? I'd like to use outside sticker packer. There are a very limited few currently

checked the general preferences, and they are both enabled (minimize to system tray / start minimized to tray).

Tried downgrading back to 8.24.1 - but apparently the signal database got upgraded, and isn't backwards compatible.

Hello, I'm using Signal on my PC. From 3 days ago suddenly it takes forever when sending messages. I'm curious to see how long, even a day is never getting sent. I already tried reinstalling and relinking my accounts but the problem still persists. I can still get the message just fine on desktop app but I just can't send a message. I also use Signal on my phone but the phone one works perfectly. It's a hassle to go to phone just to send message. Do you all have same problem and what's your solution when this happens? Thanks before!

TLDR: Signal PC app getting messages just fine but sending messages takes forever. Tried relinking and reinstalling nothing happened. Signal on phone works perfectly.

P.S. I used Windows 10 desktop

Within the last year, I have stopped getting Signal notifications on my Garmin watch. I use signal a lot for work so this has been very frustrating with missed messages etc.

Has anyone had and been able to resolve a similar issue? I have looked through setting in both Signal and Garmin connect app and not been able to fix it, even uninstalled and reinstalled Garmin app, still no change.

I sent someone my LTC address on Signal Desktop:

On my PC it still shows exactly like that.

But on his Signal mobile app, the same message shows:

ltc1qy0s4nrj0qxgf630ee94ltwzdk5d-p6xmk6kmmyh

Signal has somehow put a - in the middle of the address.

At first I thought it was just how Signal was displaying it because the address goes onto a second line. But when he copied the address from Signal, the hyphen was actually copied as well.

He pasted that straight into Coinbase and sent me £130 worth of LTC. His Coinbase transaction now shows the destination address with the hyphen in it.

I've got screenshots from both sides. Mine shows the original message without the hyphen, his shows the hyphen, and Coinbase shows that the hyphenated address is what was used.

Surely this shouldn't be possible? Signal changing even one character in a message is a pretty massive problem, especially when you're sending things like crypto addresses where every character matters.

Has anyone else had anything like this happen?

Update from coinbase: It's a bug they are aware of (accepting LTC addresses with hyphens in), but my funds are lost and they cant recover them.

So why am I still getting popups asking for more money ?

If the subscription for backup isn’t enough to make a profit, raise the subscription price by a dollar, in stead of nagging me about it.

Signal is my absolute favorite Messenger for various reason. But still there are plenty people that I communicate with who keep using Telegram and Whatsapp.

I'm getting tired of remembering which chat is in which app.

Is there any Multi messenger app on Android supporting Signal without being a security issue?

I've been putting up with this for a while, as there's only one person I regularly talk with on Signal.

Often when sending a message I'll press return, and nothing happens for 10-15s. I might receive another message in the meantime, but mine isn't sending, and nor can I start typing a next message.

Possibly related, when opening pics the other party has sent it will often take 10-15s to respond.

I do have IPv6 connectivity and get a 10/10 on Test your IPv6. and have a unique public IP for my desktop. I also have a static IPv4 address, although that is NAT'd for my desktop.

It feels like Signal is attempting something that then times out before an alternate method is used, but what ?

There should be an option to turn off the recovery key reminders in the app. It’s distracting, and I personally know people who left Signal because of these perpetual notifications. It’s fine to be reminded occasionally about the key, but for those who have already written it down, this just becomes a nuisance.

Hi everybody. I can’t log in into my signal account after 4 months of not using it. I’ve been on my maternity leave, so I deleted the app off my phone. Now I can’t log back in - the app says that they are unable to send me a verification code. My coworker tried to send me some messages and it says that I don’t have an account. Help :)

is it possible to change the colour of the icon of the note to selve? In my case it is pink an I cant find a way to change it. If I just change the Chatcolour nothing except for the typing-boubles changes. has anyone an idea how to change that to any other colour (I dont mind which one)

Am I missing something? When I get a call on Signal, it does not ring on my phone or my watch.

I know this is doable as WhatsApp behaves pretty much the same way a regular phone call does and rings on both.

I've been a user for years and following today's update I'm unable to logim. Knowing Signal has sms send problems, I don't understand why they would implement that.
