We now have post approval on. Your post didn't get deleted, it just went into the queue. Please be patient a mod will go through the queue when they are available!

Please read our list of banned names before continuing. If the name you posted is in this list, it will be removed.

Remember: Original content is always better! Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does not mean you found it "in the wild".

The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. My mom's name is Lana, luckily dad took initiative

257

u/pikpikcarrotmon 16h ago

They went with your grandmother Naomi instead

178

u/dove_annarchie 16h ago

At least it wasnt gammy Esra 😭

115

u/Luce_Bot_Bot 16h ago

For some reason Esra never produced children

59

u/Hugh_G_Reckshen 15h ago

Well that stinks

10

u/MikeyBugs 11h ago

She carried too much baggage

53

u/APenguinInATuxedo 12h ago

As a Natasha, I have no plans to flip my name around

37

u/Ambitious_Cicada9263 9h ago

Well the next time I drop something, I'm saying "ah, Satan." Just for you.

6

u/APenguinInATuxedo 6h ago

I appreciate that 👍

30

u/ChefArtorias 13h ago

Plot twist: Dad's name was Sinep.

3

u/dafyddil 10h ago

7

u/ChefArtorias 10h ago

Sinep is a common name in Estonia?

10

u/dafyddil 10h ago

It means mustard lol

3

u/ChefArtorias 8h ago

Oh. Maybe don't name your children that because it's penis backwards in English, jsyk.

18

u/dehydratedrain 16h ago

He clearly didn't take initiative if you were conceived... (sorry. Couldn't resist).

9

u/Sassafrassical 15h ago

Thank heaven for small miracles

380

u/quellesaveurorawnge 16h ago

The most popular one of these has to be Nevaeh, which I have always found so cringe.

158

u/Pretty-Mention-7769 15h ago

And now you see all kinds of Neveahs, Neviahs, Nevyiahs, etcs.

Like they have no clue where the name came from.

39

u/Pitiful_Ad2397 16h ago

It’s one of my least favs of all time.

18

u/Gribitz37 9h ago

I always laugh because they always have to explain it. It's like the kid's name is "Nevaeh-it's-heaven-spelled-backwards."

6

u/mediumcarrotteacher 4h ago

And then I always have to explain to them that spelling a word backwards reverses the meaning

31

u/amarillo-by-mourning 12h ago

Did you know it’s heaven spelled backwards?!

9

u/Lil_Artemis_92 8h ago

I actually think Nevaeh is a pretty name, but it comes from an objectively stupid source.

5

u/Resident-Gold-3466 11h ago

I don't hate that one, but I still wouldn't use it.

3

u/Realistic_Farm_5963 8h ago

Is it common knowledge that neveah is heaven backwards and thats why people use the name. I never knew that lol I just thought they liked the sound

6

u/quellesaveurorawnge 8h ago

As some people have said, if you don't know, people who have named their kid Nevaeh will tell you where it's from!

2

u/-LibertyBelle- 2h ago

i know a nevaeh, she hates it, i call her vae (vae victis lol) and have essentially forgotten her name is nevaeh

242

u/CakePhool 16h ago

In Sweden there is an Artist named Mikael, he named his daughter Leakim..

60

u/unicorntrees 15h ago

I went to school with a Lea Kim.

39

u/Sassafrassical 15h ago

I can understand that - it’s an acceptable compromise

79

u/ExtensionChemical690 16h ago

Oh god that's terrible

19

u/-wilting 15h ago

That poor poor girl. I can already imagine all the harassment omfg

155

u/A_VERY_LARGE_DOG 15h ago

Buddy of mine is named Kurt. Named his boy Truk

Cool guy, cool kid. …but some people just be naming things.

76

u/CIS-E_4ME 15h ago

Their grandson can be named Trukurt

29

u/MsSkittles18 14h ago

Truk is sending me

7

u/Kira-Of-Terraria 6h ago

it's probably really easy because he is a vehicle and can carry you

19

u/Sassafrassical 15h ago

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 🤦🏻‍♀️☠️

9

u/Resident-Gold-3466 11h ago

Truk's an awful name.

1

u/-LibertyBelle- 2h ago

i kinda like it…

8

u/SpecialistSpray9155 10h ago

Cool guy but set his kid up for life like that? Doesn’t sound very cool of him.

1

u/A_VERY_LARGE_DOG 8h ago

Eh. Everything is relative. Where we live it’s not even very high up on the scale of weird or bad. Just kind of tame, really.

5

u/Significant-Trash632 8h ago

Some people need their ego taken down a bit. Why would you do that to your kid.

286

u/Constant_Cultural 16h ago

Chord is alreay a stupid ass name as it is

82

u/PuzzleheadedNoise814 13h ago

Thank you I was like, are we going to just gloss over this atrocity?

24

u/CantStandIdoits 9h ago

I was almost named Cord

Like extension cord, umbilical cord, HDMI cord, you get the idea

10

u/TheSpitalian 9h ago

Sounds like a name they’d use on a dumb soap opera.

4

u/nifty_sushi 5h ago

Exactly. There’s a character on General Hospital named Brick. Like what the hell?

2

u/SylveonFrusciante 1h ago

I love a good musical name but chord ain’t it.

65

u/rebelangel 15h ago

So Dad had a stupid name and went “What the hell, I’ll give my kid a name that’s even stupider”?

59

u/VelvetCactus50 16h ago

That's too close to "dreck."

What is wrong with this man that he gave his kid such a dumb name?

24

u/hockey-house 15h ago

And the mom who went along with it.

48

u/Luce_Bot_Bot 16h ago

This is why you never hold your baby upside down when naming it

44

u/pants_pants420 15h ago

star wars ass name

38

u/oheydestinyy 14h ago

My husbands moms name is Keren and she almost named my husband Nerek 😭 and he thinks it’s a great name and it’s on his list for boy names. Also his name is Axel and he almost wanted to name our daughter Lexa because it’s his name backwards 😭 i don’t understand the appeal with backwards names

42

u/houseplant-hoarder 14h ago

At least Lexa isn’t bad 🤷‍♀️

22

u/oheydestinyy 14h ago

true but it’s too close to alexa and that name has been ruined by AI so no thanks lol

8

u/houseplant-hoarder 14h ago

I hate that there are pretty names that AI has ruined. Siri is so beautiful and futuristic but I wouldn’t dare name anyone that now 🤦‍♀️

7

u/-catharina 7h ago

Go with Iris instead of Siri! Ironically this is one of the few redeemable “backwards” names.

1

u/SetFoxval 49m ago

I'd just assume an Iris was named for the flower.

10

u/oheydestinyy 14h ago

a couple years ago i was obsessed with the name Gemini, call her Gem for short. Then found out googles AI was called Gemini lol

4

u/Square_Ad4004 12h ago

Well, at least that's one thing AI has done for us.

2

u/NeopolitanVagina 10h ago

My high school AP teacher from sophomore year has a daughter named Siri, but she's in her early thirties now. He's also of swedish descent, and his whole family knows swedish. All of his other kids have swedish names as well. Just feel bad for my teacher and her mom, plus her husband and whoever else, if they have iphones LOL I'll have to ask him about it. We are supposed to have lunch soon

29

u/UnderseaRexieVT 14h ago

Man got the Alucard treatment.

7

u/SweetJealousy 10h ago

Except I think Alucard is a cool name.

92

u/Eaten_by_Mimics 16h ago

like how my dad named me Floda

25

u/unicorntrees 15h ago

Drock is really close to Dork.

21

u/biscuitvillage 15h ago

I know a guy named Keven who named his first boy Nevek for the exact same reason

13

u/Salty-Ad-4693 10h ago

"My name is misspelled, so lets take that a step further!"

23

u/PickledPussy13 14h ago

I went to school with a kid named Trebor

6

u/playswithforks 8h ago

That sounds like Trevor but with a stuffy nose lol

2

u/BadgerKomodo 8h ago

There’s a brand of mints here in the UK called Trebor.

3

u/Loudlass81 3h ago

Trebor mints are that minty bit stronger, stick 'em up yer arse, they'll last a lot longer.

We had a Trebor factory nearby as teens...

24

u/Changerole1090 13h ago

I heard he has a sister named Tulsa.

22

u/No-Birthday9816 12h ago

I cannot imagine making a tiny new human being with my body, undergoing the physical changes and risks involved in the process, bonding so powerfully to that child that some of his fetal cells travel and take permanent root in my own organs and brain, enduring birth and all its risks, potentially surviving complications, and finally delivering that child—and then letting the father name him “my name but backwards, babe!”

Chord would be lucky he was already at the hospital.

1

u/flywithme00 37m ago

This is what I always think!!! Every time there’s a ridiculous name where the father is clearly just on some type of ego trip, I always want to talk to the mom and be like ??? why did you let him do that when you’re the important one here???

19

u/KellyAnn3106 13h ago

I can't stand the name Chasity. It's one of those ones that just really bugs me for some reason. They tried for Chastity, which is bizarre enough, and couldn't even spell it correctly

6

u/Resident-Gold-3466 11h ago

I have a GYN named Chasity.

7

u/Salty-Ad-4693 10h ago

That's a name!? I saw it once but thought it was a typo.

It looks like a typo.

6

u/KellyAnn3106 10h ago

I've met a few of them here in Texas.

17

u/Traditional-Chip-315 16h ago

I’m surprised it isn’t pronounced Drake

11

u/robin-bunny 13h ago

This is how it starts. "Chord"...Great. Let's do something kind of similar for a theme.

Why Dhroc? Do they hate their child??

10

u/ExtensionFault6283 12h ago

reminds me of my sisters old friend. Her name is Angela. She named her daughter Angela backwards.

Alegna. pronounced like Elaina

5

u/Resident-Gold-3466 11h ago

Alegna is not pronounced like Elaina. She probably get Alegna all the time.

3

u/ExtensionFault6283 11h ago

thats what the mother told me . . she pronounced it like Eh-lay-na

the g is silent lol

10

u/Desecr8or 13h ago

"Fuck Dad for naming me Drohc. And fuck Grandpa for naming him Chord."

6

u/NvrmndOM 16h ago

I will only accept this as an ok name if his father acts as the main antagonist in his like ala Reverse Flash and Flash.

9

u/_Standardissue 15h ago

This is…cacophonous

7

u/thousandsofbirds 14h ago

My name is Gina. I could never.

7

u/ddddan11111 14h ago

So the 1st inversion of the Chord?

2

u/Lazy_Chocolate_4114 14h ago

If he really wanted give his son his name in reverse then he should have named him Inversion.

7

u/-catharina 7h ago edited 7h ago

Nadia/Aidan, Noel/Leon, and Ari/Ira are legitimately the only cool non-palindromic “backwards names.” (edit: and some others I’ve seen in the comments, like Siri/Iris and Cam/Mac. I also don’t mind Ellen/Nelle or Allen/Nella, and Nora/Aron though it’s weird seeing Aron without the extra A.)

All the others are just ridiculous and/or you have to reach very hard to get them.

10

u/rinklkak 13h ago

I've seen real people named Semaj. More than one.

5

u/Sassafrassical 13h ago

JFC 🤦🏻‍♀️☠️

3

u/Gribitz37 9h ago

I just said the same thing. I know two girls named Semaj.

5

u/Edika-2020 14h ago

Gsus! (I’ll see myself out)

6

u/mushu_beardie 14h ago

It's like that one African Gray parrot named him.

"Shrock!"

5

u/Shirohitsuji 13h ago

What does Chastity have to do with anything?

Ytitsahc?

4

u/squidtheinky 11h ago

Lol yuh tit sack

4

u/NighthawK1911 11h ago

Alucard at least sounds normal by now

5

u/LadybugCalico 10h ago

I tease my ex-husband Jeff that we missed out on naming our daughter Jeffany but now I could suggest Yreffej (we named her Abby)

I do know a guy named Cam who named his son Mac because it's Cam backwards

5

u/Gribitz37 9h ago

I know two girls named Semaj. Dad's name was James. 🙄

1

u/Sassafrassical 8h ago

☠️🤦🏻‍♀️

1

u/BotherBoring 4h ago

TWO???

1

u/Gribitz37 3h ago

One is mid-30s, the other is maybe 10-11. I guess I should have said a woman and a kid.

2

u/Terrible_Ad_3328 13h ago

I went to school with twins, and one of them had her dads name but backwards, but it was still a real name so I guess it wasn’t too bad?

9

u/Sassafrassical 13h ago

Was she Bob? LOL

4

u/sounder19 8h ago

I have met a “Alucard” His parents proudly explained it is Dracula spelt backwards.

2

u/Sassafrassical 8h ago

☠️🤦🏻‍♀️

3

u/Icy-Row-9586 14h ago

My favourite character from tv show Emmerdale is Chastity nn Chas, and she has a brother called Cain and a cousin called Charity 😭

3

u/witchspoon 10h ago

Someone I know distantly had a mom named Caroll she named her son Llorac.

2

u/-catharina 7h ago

Carroll is a male name on its own… just ridiculous.

1

u/witchspoon 6h ago

I THINK her spelling was due to it being a family name…and she didn’t want her son to have her same name…but yeah name him something real.

3

u/Ok_Cardiologist_673 10h ago

Total Chord move.

Alpha Chord.

3

u/2outhits 7h ago

This is how Nomar Garciaparra got his name. Dad is Ramon.

To be fair, though. Nomar is actually his middle name but he liked it better than Anthony.

2

u/oldladygamerishere 13h ago

I knew an L Rae Navlic. Dad was Earl Calvin

1

u/-catharina 7h ago

Their first name is just L… like Lawliet???

1

u/oldladygamerishere 5h ago

Just "L". On his birth certificate and everything

2

u/GhstOfIncntOptimism 10h ago

My friend, Posintio, would appreciate this

2

u/nerebeht 8h ago

The apple doesn't fall far from the tragedeigh

2

u/Sea-Improvement777 7h ago

Went to high school with a guy who had this for his first and middle names. Niloc Alamap aka Colin Pamela

4

u/merliahthesiren 11h ago

But who names their kid Chord? I went to school with a kid named "cord" and his mom was not normal and neither was he.

1

u/Resident-Gold-3466 11h ago

I thought that name was pronounced droak.

1

u/Halcyon-Ember 11h ago

His dad was called Chord?!

1

u/orenthal_james_bond 10h ago

Makes somewhat sense tho... "When I saw a guy came out where I like to go in, I had to make sure it wasn't another Mxyzptlk situation"

1

u/morbidmistress420 9h ago

I know ppl with the last name Drock 🤣

1

u/jorgelrojas 9h ago

This is very common in Latin America.

Venezuelan salsa superstar Oscar D'Leon has a child named Racso.

1

u/Crane_1989 8h ago

É ruim indo e voltando

1

u/BotherBoring 4h ago

I went to school with a guy named Tigger because the parents let his sister name him.
