Pre-note Edit: We locked discussion until we could write this pre-note, as it seems our initial communication was poor and caused confusion and assumption of animosity between the teams. This isn't the case. It is simply a matter that we had a vision for a type of server we want to build that has differing features, scope, and ruleset. This does not mean we take issue with any of their features, scope or ruleset. Just because there are things we want different does not mean we take issue or opposition with things they want. Sometimes things are just that and nothing more, different. Different doesn't have to have "bad" or "good" attached, it can just be a neutral difference.
Since there had already been a decently long period where we didn't control that Discord (since January 2025) it would have been unfair to everyone involved for us to come and try to take something they built and mold it into something else. Their server serves a good purpose in the community, and ours will have a different purpose. Some parts of those purposes may overlap, other parts may not. Some folks may want to use the features of their community, others may want to avoid those features. Again, this does not mean we take any issue with the parts of their server that won't be in ours. I really want to hammer home, we take no issue with how that server is run, and like ourselves I imagine many in the community will be members of both servers!
When our new Discord is up (timeline within 2 weeks aiming for) there will be various other Discord communities and resources linked to, and they will be included in that as a sister server. They are still a great server and resource. Their new invite link is https://discord.gg/transgaming feel free to join still, we're still members there ourselves. I understand big announcement can seem like big drama, but this really isn't that. This is just a case where they want to continue in independently, and we want a bit more focused one for our subreddit. The unaffiliation is simply that because we will no longer have any say in their server going forward that we are clear and transparent to both our communities that it is not controlled by us. That has been a failing on our part for a while, this is simply a move to clarify things for both communities.
Our server is going to be designed more LFG and play together focused. The family game room of the subreddit so to speak. That's really what we're going to be going for, we will be more niche. We will link to other subreddits, like our now formerly official one, the r/GirlGamers discord, etc for those wanting more than that. For those wanting a simple escape in gaming with other transfolk, that is the niche we will be looking to fill.

Hi everyone!
We are making this post to inform the community that the moderation team here on [r/transgamers](r/transgamers) and the moderation team over on the Discord server have mutually decided that the best course of action moving forward is to officially part ways in terms of partnership. From today on, the Discord will no longer be affiliated, or officially connected to this subreddit in any way.
The Discord started drifting from our views on what a proper server for this community should be a while ago, and we felt that for us to come in and completely shake everything up would be too much of a change for the already established rules and changes within that server.
Because it is no longer officially our server, any links or promotions to it will now fall under our Self Promo rule, where any advertisements or links for it should be posted in the weekly Tuesday mega thread.
We know this server houses a lot of you here, and the users there seem to really enjoy it.
We as trans people need more strong and safe spaces like that where we can all just be who we are in comfort and without fear, to be able to just hang out after a long day surrounded by people who understand and support us. We hope that server can continue to be a place where all trans people can go to game and have a good time.
We will also be making a new Discord server, one officially owned by us here on the subreddit, and run according to our idea for the kind of place we think is befitting for this sub. We’ll make a follow up post at a later date letting you all know when this new official server is up and running!
EDIT: To be clear the rule differences were minor, and more a case of them looking to grow into something more than just a subreddit Discord. The Discord had technically been out of our hands since 2025. They want to run it as their own team, and that's fine, it's just not something we can officially imply responsibility for in that arrangement.
The community there has grown without our influence longer than with our influence. It just wasn't our place anymore at this point to be making even minor requests of change. It wouldn't be fair to their community or our community. At this point they needed to spread their wings and fly on their own, and it was clear that was their desire as well. "Rules" was a poor choice of words, scope would've been better. They are looking to be a more generalized space for gamers that are trans and we're looking to be more focused on being a subreddit Discord. That's all really, nothing bad, nothing scandalous. We're still members there.
