News ABCQueer on Instagram
instagram.comHaving changed my name recently, in my experience NAB, Optus & AustralianSuper have been the worst to deal with, but your mileage may vary. In my case the frontline staff had no idea what they were doing, unaware of their own policies (had to show them their own website in a couple of cases), and there was zero understanding of documentation that comes with changing your name.

WA Specific Where to go to start HRT in Perth?
Wanting to start my (24) medical transition (mtf) but unsure of how to find a doctor to prescribe me hrt.
I’m only recent in coming to terms with my identity and I am talking to a psych and had a recent visit with my usual GP but I don’t think they’re able to assist any further.
Would my usual GP be able to do a referral or am I better off finding an appointment elsewhere?
And on top of all this, what’s the usual time frame to get started on prescriptions after seeing a specialist?

opinion MtF, I got taller. What do?
Everything tells me I cannot get taller on HRT, I got taller. Mid 30's , 2.5 -3 ish years into transition.
I have always been bigger and taller than other people, that has been no secret. But I am now taller than I was. What is the deal.

Ramble + Questions about HRT/Informed Consent/Doctors/DIY
Questions are numbered towards the bottom if you want to skip my blogposting. This post will talk/ask a bit about DIY but is not asking for any advice on how to get on it, obtaining any medication etc.
Hi Everyone,
Around April of this year I started truly questioning my gender identity and late May finally came to accept myself as trans. I took a little while longer to be certain/further explore before booking a doctor to start HRT, then came a month of waiting to see her and then I decided (even though I'm 99% sure I don't want kids) to bank some sperm which came with another 2-3 week wait before starting estrogen.
Currently I'm on 2mg estradial valerate with no anti-androgen since the 18th of August (yay!). My doctor (informed consent) is aiming for "slow and steady" so I of course expect this dose to increase after 2 months but every trans person in the know I've talked to says this is a very conservative start/borderline pointless dose. It's important for me to say that of course I have no expectations for anything related to "results" but am a bit disappointed because I still get several spontaneous erections throughout the day which is #1 dysphoria source, makes me feel out of control of my body and just reminds me that testosterone is still probably running rampant in my body.
Thus far in my transition/gender journey I have been okay with being conservative/slow to make changes because I'm the type of person who really wants certainty. However I have reached a degree of certainty about who I am and how I want to be in the future (despite being super anxious about the path ahead). I'm 26 years old and have spent so long suppressing who I am, In my mind I can still be hesitant about some things in my transition but only as it suits me. Right now I am concerned about two things mainly:
a) being slow to get to effective hormone levels. if I can have positive changes starting sooner then why wait? similarly tucking is still hard for me because of aforementioned #1 dysphoria source so I've grown increasingly uncomfortable/anxious about that and I haven't worn a skirt in public for like 2 months. Maybe its 2-4 months before I get effective levels, not that long but also this means at every point at least in the next 5 years I will be 2-4 months behind where I could've been (obviously medical transition is not everything but I think it would also give me a lot more confidence)
b) if my treatment is conservative now it might be conservative in the future. maybe this means a lower than effective dosage long term or slower to start other medications. maybe not but its a cause for doubt.
These two points of course make me pretty anxious and lead to me doubting my treatment, wondering if I should go a different route i.e. other doctor or DIY. Of course I would like as much as possible to stay within the medical system but at the same time don't want to be compromising on anything. Also I feel its worth adding that I have heard plenty of people say they regret starting on a low dose, were on too low a dose for too long, but I'm yet to hear anyone regret regretting getting their levels up too fast. I also feel like I have already waited "long enough." I'd like to ask a few questions to clear my mind and get a better picture:
0) am I valid for being concerned, what would you do, do you have any regrets about how you started HRT/your long term treatment?
- under informed consent how much input can I have in my treatment and what is the most effective way of advocating for getting to effective dosage
- what are my prospects for switching doctors early in my care?
- if I DIY, how easy is it in the future to start seeing a GP and resume prescribed HRT (e.g. my life situation changes)
- If I am hospitalised while on DIY would they try to maintain my levels?
- how would/should I navigate bringing up DIY to my regular GP / other doctors
- how does DIY affect getting surgeries?
Thanks for reading and I'd appreciate any other advice/comments.

VIC Specific Where's a good place to buy affordable everyday wigs?
TLDR. As much as I adore my long hair, for health reasons I may have to remove it, waiting for regrowth would be a nightmare. Is there places to buy fairly normal looking wigs for everyday use? Does anyone use wigs instead of growing their hair?

Transferring medicare card with name change
Hello, my girlfriend has gotten her name changed and needs to change her medicare details at some point but doesn't want her parents finding out.
I've suggested she move over onto her own medicare card but we're not sure if A) her parents would be informed that she's done this and B) whether she'd have to change her name with medicare *before* transferring.
She's semi out to her parents and doesn't live with them, but she's still very worried about it and I don't want her feeling like she's trapped between a rock and a hard place. Basically we're not sure if she can transfer cards and update her name with medicare without her parents finding out about it.
Hopefully this is worded properly. Cheers!

VIC Specific Primoteston at Home
Hey friends,
I’ve recently started on primoteston depot shots (.5 every two weeks). The clinic nurse showed my friend and I how to inject into my thigh, but she used the needle that comes in the box (which I believe is an 18G)…it hurt like an absolute bitch for days. From what I’ve read online, 23 or 25G is the way to go - however I’m having trouble finding a pharmacy that has the right needles.
A little while ago I found a master list on here with collection/drop off points in Melbourne for sharps bins, needles, alcohol swaps ect. but I didn’t save it. I’m wondering if anyone has it or knows where I could go? Thanks a bunch :)

VIC Specific GP Recommendations for discussing/reviewing my HRT in Melbourne
I've been on MtF HRT for around 5 years via Prahran Market Clinic and various experiences with them over the years have made me not sure if I'm actually receiving a correct dose for my HRT. I am interested in getting a second opinion (ideally from a clinic that does informed consent and doesn't feel the need to ask "do you think you still need it" every time I have a review) and moving away from PMC altogether. But I have no idea where to start.
So many of the common options have huge waiting lists and ideally I'd like to be able to have a regular GP from this as well, bulk billed would be amazing and it's the reason I've stuck to PMC for so long despite the issues I've had with them.
I'm on the east side but I can drive so distance isn't that huge an issue. Mainly I'm looking for a doctor who isn't super cautious about HRT and that I can actually have a discussion with to understand where I'm at and should be aiming. Does anyone know any good doctors for this?

Any trans immigrants who escaped their country to Australia here? Need some insight and advice
So I'm a trans man from southeast asia. After learning about the trans friendly laws in au, I started planning to move out since it's closer to my country and the living cost isn't too expensive for me, plus I have relatives there too (not sure if they'll be accepting tho, I never came out to them).
I'm planning to further my studies in Australia and if possible, completely immigrate there. For more context, I'm mainly looking at Melbourne and Sydney (my research says their state laws for trans ppl r about the same)
I have a few questions, but any advice that I didn't think of would be appreciated too.
1) how long does it take until you could change your gender on your legal documents?
2) are there any conservative schools I need to avoid?
3) what is the process for non native residents to obtain trans healthcare and start hrt? (I couldn't find much information for this somehow... Idk if I'm searching for the right words)
4) are there any activist organisations that could aid me in any way?
5) general advice on how to save up and anything I should be wary of/take note of?
These are everything I'd like to know, I'd be super thankful for any help or advice I can get.

NSW Specific When do I need the psych letter?
Going to see my GP soon for a referral to concord for top surgery and a psych for the auspath letter. Do I need the letter for the initial consult or only for the one with the surgeon? Concerned about wait times and the letter only lasting 3 months.
If anyone has a general timeline/order of actions taken from first GP visit to surgery date that'd be super helpful thanks 🙏

Trans fem Question for the dolls
Hey gurls (23 Transfem) (Perth aiming to move to
EDIT//
I just wanted to clarify to all you amazing lovely people I don't want to stay in construction or an adjacent industry I'm just scared of what moving careers entails
Melbourne next year)
This question mainly pertains to those who transitioned after already being in a very conservative industry
I'm finding myself feeling trapped I've been working in construction for 5 years and living as my true self for 2 of them and I know that I need to change industries
My problem is that I can't afford to work part time so I can't study. I've considered applying to entry level tech jobs but I have no idea where that leads me down the line and I've never had to change careers before
If anyone has any advice or wants to share their story please do because it's at the point where I get clocked at every job

opinion Stuck and confused
I’m in a really hard place and just need to get this out.
I’ve been thinking about transitioning for about a year now. The feelings keep getting stronger no matter how much I try to suppress them, and lately it’s been making me pretty depressed. I want to act on it, but I feel completely stuck.
I come from a very conservative, religious, old-school family. They would never accept this. They wouldn’t even let me explore the idea. I love them a lot and the thought of hurting them or having to leave them is something I can’t handle. So I’m stuck between wanting this badly and not being able to do anything about it without blowing up my relationship with them.
I’m also almost 26, 6’1, and I know I’ll never look like the “ideal” feminine type a lot of people picture.
There feel like there are way more negatives than positives, and that just adds to the hopelessness.
I’ve heard the whole “it’s your life, live for yourself” advice, and intellectually I get it… but emotionally I just can’t switch off caring about my family like that.
I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this. I tried opening up to one of my trans friends and she laughed and said it was probably just a fetish. After that I shut down and haven’t told anyone else.
I just needed to put this somewhere. If anyone has thoughts, experiences, or even just wants to say something, feel free. Thank you for reading.

What's the best way to effectively protest AusPost forcing HP in our faces?
Aus Post's app icon recently updated to this - I was confused for a bit, then discovered it's because of a Harry Potter collab: https://auspost.com.au/auspost-campaigns/owl-post-experience
What's the best way to kick up a stink about how shitty this is?
It's bad enough to see it getting noise ambiently, but now trans genocide-funding franchises are getting shoved in our faces just to engage with the government funded postal system?

Trans fem Supplementing Testosterone
Hi all! Quick question for the brains trust on supplementing T for energy and sex drive. Anyone have experience or advice they can share?
I have had bottom surgery, so I can decide to supplement with as much or as little as I like but the goal is to use as little as possible to give my libido and energy levels a little boost, back up to the kind of levels I experienced before surgery when my T would float around 1.0. Levels currently hang around 0.5.
E levels are already solid and don't need to increase that, but any advice is appreciated!
Love you 😘
