IMPORTANT INFO Naming Posts

UPDATE: Alright the lads have spoken - going forward we are reserving Mondays for Naming Posts, please use the flair, and flick us a report if someones got the day wrong - although do allow a little wiggle room for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere. Thank you all very much for your feedback.

------------

Kia Ora fellas, Kyle here again.

Me and the mods have a problem that I want to run past you guys.

Choosing a name is a pretty big deal and an important step in a man's transition. And r/transmanlifehacks is absolutely the right place to come and get advice from your brothers about it.

However - the sub is getting pretty swamped with naming posts and we’re starting to get messages and reports from members saying that it’s getting tiresome seeing so many repetitive posts.

I heard that there’s another sub that reserves Mondays for naming posts. I’m thinking we could do the same - that way, they can crosspost to either sub without breaking any rules. I’d probably chuck “(MONDAY ONLY)” in the flair to help remind people.

How does that sound to everyone? Open to ideas too

Relaunching r/Transmanlifehacks - Under new ownership

Kia ora fellas, I’m Kyle

I’ve had ownership of r/transmanlifehacks transferred to me - which many of you know, has been unmoderated for a very long time. This place now has 4 new moderators, shout out to the team at r/transmantips for coming onboard. Clean up took a while as there were about 1200 reports to work through. We’ve permanently banned a shit tonne of transphobes and chasers. Be patient with us as we find our feet - personally I’ve likely messed up a few of the 1200ish comment/post reports but unless it's life or death or a danger to a minor, lets just try to move forward from here.

The ethos of this sub will be a place for trans men to ask for specific passing advice. Passing here means being undetectable as trans to the outside world, as in being assumed to be a cis man. Passing is something we take seriously here. We are in no way in opposition to those who do not want to be stealth, or who do not mind "looking" stereotypically trans - but this sub is specifically for trans men who want to pass and are willing to take steps to pass. Everyone else is a welcome guest, please act accordingly - please be self aware when giving advice if you do not have current lived experience as a passing trans man, and please do not make posts here if you are not wanting to pass.

I’m gonna be honest, this place is pretty famous for being an unmoderated cesspit of feral comments. Starting today we’re going to learn how to be kinder to each other. We can find ways to give feedback without aiming for each other's jugulars. On the flipside of that, do be prepared for a bit of hard honesty - have a bit of a chin, be willing to listen, and if something doesn’t resonate - then just move on with your life. There’s a balance to this.

So what's new? The rules. Please get acquainted with them. Use the report button if someone is breaking them.

#1 Respect others and be civil
Personal attacks towards members will not be tolerated. This includes comments such as "Are you even trying?" "You look like a woman/girl/mtf/lesbian," or other misgendering, body shaming, or any other unsolicited comments without giving advice. Treat all contributors and members with kindness.

#2 No "Do I pass?" Posts
Posts to this sub must have substance; "Do I pass?" is too broad of a question for us to give you accurate advice for your situation. Use this sub to ask for specific advice on clothing, hair, jewelry, mannerisms, etc.

#3 Be upfront about what you're not able to change (with legitimate reason).
If you are unable to change certain things like haircut, glasses and clothes due to factors like safety, financial situation, culture, etc., just be upfront about it! Ask for advice on what you realistically can change or use feedback to create a goal/plan towards passing, even if you aren't able to implement all the changes right now.

#4 No Hugboxing
Hugboxing (in this case, telling someone they pass 100% when that may not actually be the case) not only gives people false hope, but can also put them in danger if they're put in a situation where they may not pass when it's most important (bathrooms/locker rooms). You can still give compliments without telling someone they pass. We acknowledge that passing can be subjective, but let's put people's safety first, not just feelings.

#5 Minors in this sub
The safety of minors is top priority. As such, minors who ask for advice in this sub must:

- Specify that they are a minor in the title of their posts

- Be fully clothed in all images posted to the sub (yes, this may create challenges with asking advice on taping/binding, but again, your safety is top priority)

- Remove your post after 24 hours (or after you've received the advice you were looking for)

#6 No filtered images
Unless posting old photos for comparison (showing old haircuts, style, etc.), current photos must have no filters. This ensures that we can give you accurate advice for your situation.

#7 No sexualisation of members
Do not comment or send private messages to members saying “they’re hot” or attempting to hit on them. Anyone talking this way to a minor on this sub will be banned immediately and reported to Reddit.

#8 No Transphobia or Bigotry
Transphobes are not welcome. Kindly piss off. Transphobia, intentional misgendering, deadnaming, or general bigotry will result in an immediate ban. The existence of trans people will not be debated here.

I’m willing to take suggestions for how we can refine these rules going forward. We’re planning on adding new features down the line.

That’s enough from me for now.
Be the kind of man that you can be proud of, and build your brothers up.

Does my clothing fit me well and give a masculine shape?

I seem to always get he/him everywhere I go and it seems most don’t know I’m trans but I’d like an option from other trans people. I’m asking about my clothes and how they work for body shape. Does my eyebrow shape , hair cut still read as man? My jaw line, brow ridge are my biggest concerns and I can’t do much about them. the piercings are more than any average person has so I don’t think they are reading feminine or masculine just excessive. But what do yall think? I think my face is still quite feminine

Question Weird nipple placement?

Post image
67 Upvotes

I had top surgery two weeks ago and I noticed a few days ago that my left nipple is placed higher and more to the side than the left? Idk if I’m just standing crooked but it looks kinda weird

Also are they too big? Or is this just my dysphoria fucking with my head?

Needing Advice [18M] Pre t, best hairstyle for me + any tips to make me less clocky?

I've had a variety of hairstyles and I have no which one makes me look the most male. The one I have currently is similar to the first one, but a lot more unkept. I feel like I look more like a little boy with whatever hairstyle I have, but I'm assuming that's due to being pre t. Thoughts? (Also yes I'm terrible at taking pictures ignore that lol)

i'm 18 & pre-t. my biggest problem to me is really my face... is there anything i can do before T to help me pass? is there any hope for me at all? i have restrictions on clothes due to lack of money (but most of my wardrobe is already imo fairly masculine.), but hair, voice training, exercise, etc...stuff like that i can do, i just don't know where to start. also if anyone has hairstyle advice, plz give it. my hair is completely brown right now, willing to give up dye, i just want a style that doesn't seem like it screams GIRL, ugh.

note : a lot of the photos are from when i was 16/17

i'm currently in the process of trying to get T.

Sometimes I get in my own head

41..pre top surgery, 6 years on T. Lately I've been in my head thinking I'm clocky, even though my interactions with the general public get me treated like a man. My chest is my biggest stressor at times, but as a bigger dude I think people just see it as muscle plus man boot.

So I guess I'm asking...am I clocky?

Question Is my room too feminine or is it just dysphoria talking? [MINOR]

Thumbnail

Sometimes I’m worried it’s way too colorful, that a boy wouldn’t express himself like this or wouldn’t put something in a certain place, but it’s so gratifying when I place something somewhere that feels inherently masculine (if that makes sense)

It’s not like I don’t like my room, I feel as though my room is a look behind my eyes and into my mind, but that just might be the problem. It’s like every time I try and do something like reading a magazine or watching a movie my brain is constantly asking itself “would a boy watch this movie?” Or “would a boy read magazines about a band entirely filled with other boys?”. Even when I’m playing games, I love the older Tony Hawk games and basically anything related to Guitar Hero, but when I’m playing them I’m still somehow stressed if those games aren’t masculine enough, like maybe Tony Hawk is for little kids and not an older demographic rather than something like Skate?

I have a feeling I’m being stupid, but it’s this constant voice in the back of my head that keeps nagging at me.

Can’t remember the last time I was misgendered aside from family members I’m not out to. Still feel like I see the same person in the mirror and nothing’s changed, even though I know objectively, that’s not true.

Is there anything I can do to look less butch? I have very limited income, so I can’t really afford to buy all new stuff.

Question Can a short man look funny?

I haven't started T, yet. However, I'm super short. 4'8 ft. I am heavily insecure, but I don't know if I'll even pass well, or if I'll look like an ugly man. My voice is high pitched, my face is super feminine, and I'm instead seen as a cute girl. No matter what I do, I'm always seen as a cute girl, so I'm thinking about T. However, all my friends say that I'll look so ugly with it. Should I ignore them and go on it or..?

I'm too ashamed to provide photos, I'm sorry.

Seeking Tips Were you "bottom heavy" before transition? How did it change?

They don't make binders for butts and bike/gym shorts are really just shapewear to make your butt look bigger at this point. The closest thing I have are bike shorts from 15 years ago.

My wide femme-presenting ass really gets in the way of my masculine presentation. I know a lot of it has to do with my pelvis so it's ultimately unfixable, but if you had a big butt before transition how has your butt changed?

Even if there isn't concrete advice before/after photos would really make me feel better.
