Announcements Subreddit Changes + Updates!

Heyo, Y'all!

You may have noticed some recent changes to the subreddit over the past hour or so. I'm happy to announce I've stepped in to manage this sub moving forward.

I found this sub after discovering that a community I run, r/TransPlace, had become overrun with name-suggestion posts. While looking for a solution to provide a better place for trans individuals seeking name suggestions, and responding to my subreddit members' request to calm the seas of name suggestion posts, I stumbled upon this subreddit.

After finding this subreddit to be unmoderated for the past few months, I didn't really feel comfortable sending members of TransPlace here as-is. I made a request to claim the subreddit, which has just gone through now.

With it, I've made some updates, which brings us up to speed! You'll notice a new icon (which I hastily created in a few minutes, hopefully its not too bad), and the subreddit banner we used over in r/TransPlace (This will likely be changed once I have a new one made <3).

I've also updated the flair names to capitalize them, revised the rules, and added an AutoMod configuration that should hopefully help with the subreddit's moderation.

I'll also be working on getting more subreddit mods moving forwards, so please look forwards to a post soon where we have an application if you're interested.

Cheers'

- Cleopatra

PS: If you have any suggestions for the subreddit, please feel free to post them in the comments here, I'll try to answer everyone <3

Feminine Names Sienna, or something else? Open to thoughts and suggestions! ❤️

I'm only a couple of months in, but have really struggled to find something that feels 100% me, especially given how much I've changed since this began. I have another new name that I feel like I may be outgrowing, and I keep second guessing. Very much a me thing to do though lol!

That's where Sienna comes in - it has planted firmly in my mind for the past few weeks, and it just feels really pretty, and I like saying it :3

Very keen for feedback or suggestions of any kind. Thank you! xx

Masculine / Neutral Names Back for a middle name!

A couple years back, y'all picked out Vincent for me. I ended up really liking it! Since I've recently gone no contact with my mom, I don't want to keep my given middle name, Laine, since it runs in my family. I like the name itself, but it always feels like a rope tying me to a past I'd rather forget. I'm getting married soon and my surname will be Allen-Matthews, telling it for matching and flow purposes. I'd like it to feel elegant and gender neutral if possible, but masc ideas are also acceptable!

Masculine / Neutral Names Name advice? (no picture bc I’m >18 and want online privacy)

So I’m ftm and my current name I’m going by (not my deadname) is Quinn (which has a similar meaning to my deadname) and I like Quinn but I feel like it doesn’t quite fit the person I want to be and I feel like it’s too easy to be misgendered with it (I am pre-t and very small with a pretty high voice)

I’ve been thinking about new names and I like the idea of having a name related to a piece of media I like but I don’t want the name to be too… crazy? I guess? Like something fairly unique from something I like that still is reasonable as a name.
The original thought that came to mind that made me think this was when I was thinking about Auriel/Auri-El (from the elder scrolls) but I’m not sure if that’s too obvious that it’s from a fantasy game.
I really do like somewhat fantasy sounding names but again, I’m not really sure about any

If anyone has suggestions or a place(website or something) they’d recommend to find names, I’d be happy to hear !

I hate taking pictures of myself so sorry if they’re kinda bad

I‘ve gone by Aether for a while, but decided I need a change. Thinking of Michael, but open to suggestions! Micah is off the table because it’s homophonic with my deadname.

Name Testing When no name feels right?

tldr; pls be gentle with me, i know my brain is looping lol. i’m a latino trans guy trying to find a new name, but nothing actually feels like me. i’ve seen approximately every name on planet earth at this point. i think i need advice on how to actually try out names because looking at lists clearly isn’t working. name suggestions welcome too!

i’ve had my current name for a few years and have really outgrown it. i want something unique, a little queer, and with personality. i’m soft and sensitive but also loud and complex lol. huge yapper, very sentimental, love music.

some names i’ve considered:

axel: i actually used this for a bit, but it felt too edgy, almost like a mask.

sawyer: love how unique it is, but maybe too soft.

nico/niko: i really like it, but it feels too short/common.

luca: love it, but too soft.

viktor: love it, but too sharp and not latino enough.

emiliano: this is probably the closest. a friend suggested it and i LOVE that it works in english and spanish and has nicknames like emil and milo. unfortunately my brain keeps going “too soft, doesn’t feel like me” even though it’s basically exactly what i’m looking for.

so if anyone knows names with a similar vibe to emiliano, PLEASE tell me.

also, any advice for getting past the “i like this name but it doesn’t feel like me” problem? because clearly my intuition is not helping me here lol.

i can’t use a family name :/

Neutral Names Name suggestions? I doubt any thing will fit atp

Hi!

There is going to be a lot of text. Sorry. A lot of it is a list of names I like but don't feel right.

So starting with context. I am nonbinary. I was born female, and still present somewhat feminine because of safety. Alongside safety I do feel a bit more comfortable with femininity than masc (though neutrality of neither is where i actually lay), I am first and foremost not a man but turns our I'm also not a woman. I say that as if it's something new but I've known I'm nonbinary for many years at this point.

I've always known I don't feel quite right with my given name but not so uncomfortable that I feel I have to severe connection. It's more so I've been on the lookout for any name that feels right, and taking note of names that feel close.

I do have a preference for names that start with K or J.

Infact I used to go by Jean online but doesn't actually feel right.

I think I like sounds with a Z, R, D, or N, somewhere near mid to end. I am willing to add an image if it would help inspire some suggestions and get my vibe. But also feel free to use my list as inspiration for yourself

The names that have felt the most right but aren't quite there or would just be wrong because there are people in my life including family with the name that makes it weird:

Jean, Keen/Keene

Names that I like the sound of but can't find myself with the name:

Aven (yes as in asexuality visibility network ^_^)

Kayan (pronounced K N)

Kayden (might be a bit too masc?)

Cyan (short for cyanide XD)

Kynn (probably too close to Keene again)

Seren

Basil

Wren/Rynn

Rowan

Kyren

(Robin and Sparrow, but both are just coming from a place of nostalgia)

Reed

Vayl

Aspen

Karn

Kat (it's too fem but as a nickname for an neutral name would be perfect)

Katlan (which is on the list because I stole it from a videogame, lol, my least favorite of the games in that series but OMG THERES ANOTHER GAME IN THE SERIES AND ITS SOON. This along with the Sparrow comment might make it obvious which series I mean lol)

I also have a longer list but these are the ones that felt like there's something there.

i’m currently stuck between two names: Lukas and Evan. I have no idea which is more ME, but only a select few call me Lukas, and most ppl call me this name i chose when i was 12 😭

Anyone got any opinions?? 🥲 Don’t know if it makes a difference but I am also British 🫡

Neutral Names is max a good fit?

Post image

i’ve been struggling with my name for a while, and i’ve landed on ‘max’ as a nickname of my birth name… i’m just not sure if it suits me or if i actually like it because it’s never really been used for me. but i like the idea of it so far. i’m genderqueer, but im also transmasc so i like that it’s unisex and can be used for both genders but usually leans masc

i would also appreciate if you used the name for me in the comments (i use any/all pronouns!) just to help me see if it suits me or not :)

I'm an intersex transguy and currently my 2 nicknames are Milo and Donnie, but I struggle with EUPD and it causes me to experience a lot of identity crisises. Anybody have any advice or names they think would make me happy long term?

Masculine / Neutral Names Middle name(s) and potential nicknames

I'm happy with the first name I picked, but I've been considering middle names.

I think I'd like to go with something that has a first letter that could be compounded with the letter of my first name to create a nickname. Like MJ. I'm wondering if anyone knows of another letter that can/could be combined with M in this way because I am seriously blanking!?

Name Feedback Muave, is it masculine or feminine leaning?

Would you say the word "mauve" would sound feminine or masculine when placed on someone? I don't want to say my gender identity so that I get true answers, but I am one of the demigenders.

Masculine / Neutral Names How do I pick a name for myself?

So far everyone has said to just pick something I like or something that feels right but nothing ever feels quite "right" and I always overthink it and think of possible bad things about the name. I really feel like I've gone through every name imaginable and none of them have "clicked" or when they do I end up finding something wrong with it before introducing myself to people as it. It feels so hard because its myself, I can name a pet just fine or a character but myself? That's just... weird to me. Doesn't help that I'm also scared of being publicly out as nonbinary in my transphobic state and certain names I like would sorta have people asking questions.

Anyone who had a hard time picking or feeling like nothing fit, what did you do? I can't really ask friends for help cause they all urge me to pick something I resonate with (but I have a hard time doing that) and family is transphobic except for my brother but idk if I can ask him lol.
