Recurring Recent uptick in posts about transandrophobia: a message from the mods.

We've noticed an uptick in posts about transandrophobia. Most notably, people trying to start drama and claim that transandrophobia is something it's not. Likely it is a part of a concentrated effort of transphobes to drive a wedge between different groups of trans people, but unfortunately it is ALSO being absorbed and internalized by some actual human beings. If someone is coming into our spaces and trying to start fights or claim our oppression and bigotry against us for being trans men specifically does not exist or is problematic, please report it! We will not be tolerating that kind of negativity and very clear attempts at sowing seeds of animosity between us and our sisters and siblings.

This is just a reminder that transandrophobia is bigotry specific against trans men for being BOTH trans AND men. It is not misogyny, and it is not simply transphobia, as it is not something trans women experience.
It is the intersection of a SYSTEMIC FORM OF OPPRESSION (being trans) and a specific identity that is NOT SYSTEMICALLY OPPRESSED, but that identity IS used as a cudgel to deny the oppression that people under that specific identity (a combination of two identities here) face.

It is often a reaction to misogyny, using trans men as an easier target than cis men to punch laterally.
Other times, it is the pushing of toxic masculinity onto trans men and using the patriarchy to harm trans men because we supposedly "deserve it".

It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are not oppressed.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are intruding on mixed trans spaces because we are men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that our features and our transition care is disgusting and we are discouraged from accessing it.
It is when they turn around after saying that to tell us that we aren't allowed to express dysphoria over female or feminine features and traits.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are inherently bad in some way for being men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are harming trans women if we acknowledge that we too are oppressed.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we do not require assistance, because we are men and we need to figure it out on our own, or because we are forgotten about and nobody bothered to include us when offering community assistance.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are not allowed to discuss invisibility, loneliness, or isolation, because we are men, and not being recognized as equals or at all within a community of people who are supposed to be in the same community as you is apparently a good thing.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we "are men now" and we are not allowed to express certain emotions.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we do not experience "true misogyny" because we are men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we do not experience things like corrective rape, murder, sexual harrassment, etc. for being men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are not allowed to discuss any of this, because it is somehow harmful for us to call out this kind of behavior, but totally ok to call out transmisogyny.

We will still be allowing discussion of transandrophobia, because it IS a real problem that trans men can face, but any denial of transandrophobia, perpetuation of transandrophobia, arguments, or pot stirring will not be tolerated.
And if you see someone doing any of the above, please report it!

Recurring Friendship Megathread

THIS POST IS FOR TRANS MEN/MASCS ONLY!

GUESTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POST HERE. PLEASE RESPECT OUR SPACES.

Failure to do so may result in a ban from the sub.

If you're looking to make new friends, here's a great place to start!
Do not include any advertisements to social media or other content type platforms! This is not the purpose of this thread!

Just post a bit about yourself and maybe take a look around to see if anyone else has similar interests!
Or, if you're not good at coming up with things to talk about, here's some questions you can answer:

What do you like to be called?
How old are you?
What country do you live in?
What are some hobbies you have?
List some favorite movies, TV shows, games, or other things:
What do you do for work?
Do you have any cultural or religious ties that are important to you?
Do you have any pets?
What's an interesting fact about you?
What are your transition goals?
Where are you in your transition?

Obviously you don't have to answer everything, but it might be able to guide you in the right direction if you struggle with coming up with facts about yourself on the fly.

Discussion Update #2 I found out the REAL reason it hurt so bad

Thumbnail
173 Upvotes

If any of you have seen the first update you'll remember I said that I didn't inject into the muscle like I was supposed to, which is true. But the main reason why it hurt so bad has been revealed by my grandma who is a nurse.

I took 4 times my dose.

The vials say single use on them, so I assumed all the medicine in there was my dose, and I don't know how to read a syringe so I thought .25mL meant the number 2 on the vial. I drew up the entire vial. And shot it into my leg.

I didn't know that you only draw a portion of the vial and toss the rest. Oops. I injected 3-4 times my actual dose on accident. I learned my lesson, and my grandma now does my shots for me since I cannot trust myself to do them anymore until I learn properly. I am still in mild pain a whole week later, but it's gone down. Don't be me, take ur shots the right way.

Advice given A tool/comeback I use to shut down cis coworker(s) hypocrisy

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a rhetorical tool I’ve been using at work that has been incredibly effective at completely shutting down ignorant commentary without putting myself on the defensive.
I don't talk about my personal life or my transition with the majority of my coworkers—it's frankly none of their business, and a few of them are serious "red pill" types. But lately, whenever the room starts making ignorant comments, I’ve been testing out a response that completely short-circuits their brains.
I just look them dead in the eye and say: "To be fair, everybody is a little trans."
They always pause and look at me like I've lost my mind. Then I explain the math and the scale.
Think of a scale from one to ten. A trans person who does hormones, surgery, and a legal name change would be a 10—the whole receipt. Extreme edition. But look at where everyone else falls on the lines under that.
Women are getting fillers and Botox so their face can “age like fine wine.” Men are lining up for TRT because their testosterone did what it naturally does after 40, and suddenly it’s a medical crisis instead of just Tuesday. Gym bros are reshaping their entire bodies with cycles, and half the country is on Ozempic because the body they have doesn't match how they want to feel.
It is ALL body-affirming care. They are changing their physical bodies to match who they want to be. But when they do it, it's called "wellness" and "self-care." Why is it only controversial when trans people do it?
Keeping myself out of the equation entirely forces them to actually think about their own bias and their bullshit. Watching their brains short-circuit when they realize they have absolutely no counterargument is pure comedy. They just look at me stunned and go, "...damn, he's right."
We can’t always be fighting them on their terms or staying on the defensive about this shit. It's time to start reflecting that mirror right back at them. Hopefully, this framework helps some of you handle stressful environments a bit easier!

Discussion what surgery do u want?

super curious how many of u guys want surgery, or if u only want one and maybe not the other, or no surgery at all! btw I know there are other masculinization surgeries, but I’d like to focus on top and bottom just because they’re so prominent in the community

for me, I used to really want top surgery but now I’m not so sure! I was never really too into bottom surgery and I don’t think I’ll ever get it. sometimes it makes me feel like less of a trans man bc I don’t want surgery, so I’m curious how many of yall feel similar to me

feel free to expand on how u feel in the comments!!

Surgery Talk Pros and cons of hysterectomy/alternatives?

I think I may be a victim of fearmongering, cause I thought that hysterectomies were like a big deal super risky difficult surgery. Now I'm seeing a LOT of trans men casually mentioning their hysterectomies. Are they actually that dangerous? Do the pros outweigh the cons? What does it do for transmascs other than securing infertility? If there are good alternatives, what are they?

And another thing, how do you choose what to remove? Uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix.

Anyone who has done research and/or gotten one/something related, I'd love thoughts.

(Trans) News-USA I Created the First Ever Timeline for Legal Gender Recognition in the US. Our Rights Go Back Much Further Than You’d Think.

Trans people’s right to legal gender recognition is much older than we realize—older than abortion rights, Alaska’s statehood, and the Civil Rights Act. That history just became common knowledge.

Surgery Talk Chest feeling very natural after top surgery

Hi, did anyone else not need any adaptation time after they got top surgery? It is like my chest has always been like this. I am actually surprised at my lack of reaction. I saw my chest for the first time i was like "👍". Its almost weird how i immediately integrated and got used to my new chest in 5 seconds. Actually it still surprise myself in the mirror sometimes, but only to have this "damn i look GOOD" reaction

Discussion trans men in rock music?

Upvotes

i love singing and my voice is just starting to change, so i figured i might as well try to find music/vocal inspirations who aren't just cis dudes.

however, almost every single trans guy in music that i saw recommended in other posts seems to not really be from the genre i'm interested in hearing (mostly seems like variations of bedroom pop/rock which i don't enjoy that much).

for context, some musicians and banfs i normally listen to: pearl jam, alice in chains, korn, linkin park, radiohead, soundgarden, jeff buckley, bauhaus, the cure, deftones, the offspring, will wood and the tapeworms. (tried to include some variation of diff vocal styles and voice types i enjoy).

ik it's somewhat older stuff but that's the general idea of what i'd like to hear some trans guys do and can never really find unfortunately :( i'm also open to anything that's on the louder side really.

i'd also prefer recommendations for singers who have already been on t a while and have a more 'passing' voice, and specifically trans men/transmascs, not just trans musicians in general.

i really hope stuff like what i'm looking for exists lmao and thx for the help yall!

Discussion The public toilet situation is pissing me off

I just went to a public toilet at the mall and used the men’s one, the cleaning lady standing at the front yelled at me that the woman’s restroom is at the front. I didn’t turn around and just used the bathroom because why would I? I am no woman. (This felt like one of the biggest achievements ever)
Based on my looks and my voice, I could get misgendered easily but no one is surprised when I say I am a boy, also I was right behind my (very obvious male) boyfriend so I 100% knew I was omw to the men’s restroom

Anyway, she looked really embarrassed when I walked out without batting an eye at her but I am still definitely gonna report this

Relationships is there any hope for monogamous relationships?

I’m monogamous, and after a string of failed relationships, i’ve been taking a break from dating.

my issue is that I don’t personally know any trans men who are in happy relationships that are monogamous. All of the happy trans men i’ve seen are in polyamorous relationships. Which I’m not hating on btw, but are there any monogamous trans men out there who are in happy relationships? Sometimes it feels like only the polyamorous people are happy :(

Discussion 2nd Puberty is Crazy for Young Adults

Upvotes

I (21) am about 6 months on T and It's low-key so weird. I just graduated last month and have a full-time job, all while my hormones think I am 14. I have acne all over my body again, I am so wired all the time and then I just crash, sleeping for hours. It kind of feels like being the mom in Freaky Friday. I am in a child's body but have the mind of an (young) adult. It's just weird to think about, has anyone else experienced the same thoughts?

Discussion Anyone else was a man hater?

Upvotes

when I was a kid I hated men my classmates. were shitheads. my dad was lowkey a deadbeat. my brother was immature. I was a bio essentialist man hating girlboss before all yall terfs, you bitches are my sons 💯🔥🗣️ but yah. not alotta good role models. I had 3 male friends from my childhood as opposed to like, how many girls. But ironically, I didn’t feel very particularly girlish either. more like I was actually some sort of creature left in a basket in the forest, and then my mom picked me up and raised me as a woman.

so when I read about being trans for the first time at 11, i went “oh, you can do that?” and realized my man hating was probably partially jealousy. *explosion sound effect*

but even then It still took me a while to realize i was a guy. I think I was kind of hesitant to identify as male because of how many men treated me like shit and how queer spaces interact with masculinity. i knew I wasn’t a girl and I knew that men ain’t shit so. non binary. i think I only really realized late 2024 lol. this is really long and I kind of went off topic my bad.

Advice Needed how the HELL do you guys deal with bandaids after getting hairy?!?

okay so, not sure where to start, but generally how do you guys put bandiads on hairy legs or what type of bandaids are best to use???

i get ingrown hairs every now and then that get super angry so i put a pimple patch on top with a bandaid to secure it for the day (and to not have a gunk filled pimple patch facing the world lol). today i had to do that on my thigh and its still shorts season where i live, i had to take my hair trimmers and put my smallest guard on them to shave away extra fuzz that left me with an okay amount, but longer hairs still got caught in the bandaid too. now im frustrated thinking about how when i take these off itll rip out some of my legs hairs that may just bring in more angry ingrown hairs!? genuinely no clue if there if a solution to this, but kinda would like to be able to wear bandaids without it being like cartoony duck tape hair removal feeling shit. 😭

Discussion musings about types of dysphoria

I have pretty severe lower dysphoria, always have. It used to make me mad when people say they "got over it". I likened those types of statements to advocating for conversion therapy. until i realized that there is a distinction between social dysphoria and intrinsic dysphoria. social dysphoria comes from how others perceive traits as male or female. social dysphoria is somewhat malleable. If social expectations change, the dysphoria changes. height dysphoria is a good example of something that can generally be overcome by changing one's mindset. It doesnt make the dysphoria less real. We are perceived by others for most of our waking hours and obviously we want to be perceived as ourselves.

Intrinsic dysphoria is the primary mismatch between brain and body. if i was stranded on an island alone, i would still want metoidioplasty. I now know that many people have the opposite experience. so i think we can all afford to have a little more empathy regarding other people's dysphoria

Advice Needed i think my mom stole my testosterone while abroad

i dont even know where to start. im 19 and not even a month into a multiple months trip to europe. too many unnecessary details but im almost certain she took it. i left it with all my things in my rented room in bern, made sure it was there when we both left to zurich, we were there for days and she just left straight to the airport and i just got back to bern and it isnt anywhere. i can only think that she couldve taken it when we were leaving the building and she said she forgot something and went back upstairs alone (cause i saw her trying to snoop the box i had it in)

my shot was due on the 28th, last one was on the 3rd, im late already. i dont know what to do. no context matters right now cause the thing is that it isnt there and i have no idea how long i have until it wears off too much and stops supressing estrogen and everything. theres no possible way i could ever pay to get a new prescription in switzerland and as far as i know my prescription from peru isnt acceptable here. i dont know if she hid it somewhere in the bags she left at a friends house in zurich or if she even threw it out or something

i never told anyone in real life im on testosterone because im an adult and i just dont want to. i know she was looking things up about if im on it but thats my choice. and i know it isnt legal for her to interfere with anything medical of mine but genuinely, what does that information serve me at all? i feel so fucking stupid for not taking my ampoules with me everywhere. i cant just go back home right now. it was so expensive getting here and i cant cut it shorter than intended and everything is starting to go well but i cannot be off testosterone. i cant let that happen to my body for the following months. i dont even know why bother posting this. i feel so fucking sick, i guess i wish there was some secret miracle or something but i know that if i go look through her bags and it isnt there its just over for me. i could use any words at all, i know this isnt rare but it still seems so unfixable.

Advice Needed Am I being overly sensitive about being teased of my preferred name?

I am pre everything and I am very open with my friends. I am in the process of choosing names in the future for when I come out and start medically transitioning and I’ve been 2 of the names I’ve felt most connected to are White names and I am black African. It would look a bit unnatural alongside an African surname but I never really minded until they brought it up. My friends have been teasing me about it whenever I say something relating to it and I can’t help but feel a bit hurt by it since I really like those names and they just feel like me. I recently found another name from my culture that I like and my friends believe suit me better but I don’t like it as much as the original ones. I know it’s my choice which names I pick and they likely mean well but I just feel hurt about it. I don’t know if I’m being too sensitive. I have slightly referred to the fact that I don’t like the teasing but Im not sure if I am being too sensitive and just let it be or call it out to prevent the teasing from continuing.

Celebratory 20m & just got scheduled for top surgery

Upvotes

hi all! i’ve posted on this subreddit sporadically since i was fourteen, so even though i’m not so active nowadays, i just wanted to report back to say that i got scheduled for top surgery today.

it took me over a year just to get scheduled. i had my consultation almost a year ago, but they needed a therapist’s letter, and i didn’t have a therapist. the therapist i found refused to write me a letter because she thought it’d threaten her job with my university. then i left the country for five months so my progress came to a grinding halt. then another therapist, a so-called lgbtq specialist, told me she didn’t feel qualified to work with trans patients?!

anyway, i called up the therapist i used to see when i was eleven. fortunately, because i talked about my gender dysphoria with her all the way back then, she wrote me a letter after just two sessions.

finally, i’m on the books for the surgery i have wanted for as long as i have been pubescent. lol.

it’ll be in four months.

yay!

Advice Needed how to stop hating pda

so for context im a nonpassing trans man (binary) dating a cis guy. he isnt the problem in this, hes great about it.

basically, my bf likes holding hands, laying on each other, kissing, general pda. i dont mind this stuff because im a very tactile person, but i hate thinking about it.

most of my problem stems from the fact that when people see us, they assume were in a straight relationship and that im a woman. obviously this isnt great, im short and have a round face and just generally look like a girl. but being with a man doesnt help because nobody assumes im just a fem dude, they assume girl.

it bothers me a lot because i dont want to make him sad by not holding his hand or anything, but i hate the idea that people see us together and assume im a girl more than they already do. i dont particularly care what others think of me in general, but being seen as a woman is what gets me.

anyway i dont know how to address this with myself, but i just want to stop being miserable every time my bf wants to hold my hand. any ways to make this stop or at least lessen?

Advice Needed Dysphoria because of cis bf using the urinal? (Dont want UL)

Basically what the question says. Does anyone have experience with a cognitive dissonance like this? I don’t want Urethra Lengthening when getting phallo at all and I am super happy with that decision because complications and healing time will be easier. I don’t define myself or a man through peeing standing up. But somehow when my boyfriend pees standing up in public it is a MAJOR trigger for me and I get very dysphoric. Does anyone know what could be causing this? It is affecting me more than I’d like it to. Hope someone can share their experience.

Advice Needed I JUST showered what the hell

I’m only two weeks on T, no significant changes but GOD DAMN THE SMELL. I took a shower last night , put on deodorant and went to sleep, woke up and i smell like i havent showered in weeks, i am so musty. It usually takes me at least two days to get like this, not 12 hours later. Is this supposed to be normal and i need to shower twice a day now or do i need a new deodorant?

Edit: thank you all for the advice, its much appreciated, I will look into a new deodorant, soap, and change my bedsheets more often

Discussion Gay/bi men, how is your attraction to men different from how straight women are attracted to men?

Upvotes

I often hear from lesbian/bi women (trans or cis) that they experience attraction to women differently than straight men or like things about women that straight men wouldn't. I'm wondering if gay/bi men have a similar thing going for them. Just curious.
