Mfs don’t understand she’s not getting away with anything and will be in prison or a mental health facility for the rest of her life.

It’s not guaranteed permanent commitment. After you are committed you are assessed after 6 months and if you are recommitted you get reassessed every year after that.

And once you are assessed competent the criminal sentencing term can begin. It's so rare for anyone to be guilty but insane to be freed.

In reality what happens is they get committed for 6 months or a few years, and then once they are "fixed" they get moved to prison.

As far as I understand you can’t fave charges again because of no double jeopardy and you were found not guilty

That's popular misconception applied only to Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity. That verdict is so rare only a handful of cases in the last 30 years. Less than a dozen nationally the last time I checked.

Most cases are now tried as Guilty by Reason of Insanity. The major difference there is the guilty verdict. Insanity permits mental health institutionalized, but doesn't even guarantee it.

Once medicated the individual becomes "guilty and competent" and then is transferred to prison.

The worse, and equally common way is in pretrial insanity is used a defense to stall, and then the perpetrator is medicated just long enough for the trail, to then be sentenced to prison, where they get no mental health treatment and return to a state of insanity.

I believe she is facing NGRI though, not GRI.
