I'm not using it politically, but for... something else, don't question what it is

Can anyone help me find out more about my family? My surname is Marcinek, but in some old documents, my great-grandfather's surname appears as Marcinow. My great-great-grandfather spoke Ukrainian, and as far as I know, they came from a region called Galicia. Can anyone help me discover the origin of the surname? His wife's—my great-great-grandmother's—surname was Hanisch or something like that.

We have a threefer today: a $2 pack and two $5 packs! Monthly count of Ukrainian children killed and maimed by Russia reaches four-year high

On September 1, the start of the school year in Ukraine, many schools did not reopen due to the constant terror of Russian shelling. However, Russia’s genocidal practices concern more than just education or culture.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia killed 739 and injured 2,840 Ukrainian children. 2,374 are considered missing. Moreover, 20,610 have been illegally deported and displaced, essentially abducted. For this war crime, the International Criminal Court in The Hague has issued an arrest warrant for the Russian dictator.

According to the UN Monitoring Mission, July 2026 witnessed the largest number of Ukrainian children killed or wounded by Russian aggressors since April 2022. In July 2026, seventeen children were murdered and 166 were injured, one and a half times more than in June.

I was picking up food for the family tonight with my eldest. I had my St Javelin snake island sweater on and as I was leaving another Ukrainian came out to thank me and give me a hug. My daughter didn’t understand why I was in tears, why it meant so much to me.

I give so little to those who are fighting the Orcs. I sacrifice nothing to but and wear clothing with positive propaganda on it. I grew up and am proudly Ukrainian but that hug and than you meant the world to me.

I’m old, physically broken but proudly Ukrainian.
