nursing
Hey! Anyone here starting this Fall 2026 for the BN 3 year program at UNB SJ?
I’m 28 and going back to school has been terrifying. Not knowing what to expect and being in a university setting as a mature student makes me feel nervous. Any advice from my fellow mature students?
For previous nursing students, what is your advice? What should I go over now so my first semester flows better? Study techniques? School/study apps?
My background is medical laboratory science.

A lot of students in the 3 year program are mature students! It’s a very demanding program, and because you won’t have summer breaks the program tends to draw in those who are serious about school and often have other life commitments. Some of your classes will also be with the 4year program students so there are opportunities for socialization across cohorts as well.
As far as advice, just try to plan your time well. In the first semester it’s all classes and no clinical, so find a study schedule or habits that work for you. A lot of students use quizlet and watch YouTube videos but you will find what works for you and what others around you are using.

I went back to school at 29 to UNB. Had a great experience as a mature student, I found I connected with the profs a lot better and enjoyed learning from all the youths and teaching them stuff I knew from working in the industry. Enjoy!
