Why Nearly Every City In Thailand Has At Least One Je (Vegan) restaurant

I wrote a guide to je restaurants in Thailand. Since most Thai street food isn’t vegan, je restaurants are the perfect way to enjoy cheap Thai street food without having to worry about cross-contamination or eating an animal product by accident.

It’s also a great way to have a more authentic Thai experience if you’re visiting the country.

I am going on an organized group bike ride in the Tetons where we will be eating in restaurants. The organizers cant do everything but are willing to be supportive - they can bring some items along in a van and I can contact the restaurants. I am thinking of bringing dehydrated kale, got a suggestion for lesfside meals. I would love to hear any experience or suggestions for supporting as close to my normal eating ( Whole food all plants no oil) as possible.

Mystery Salad Shanghai

Repost, because I found a picture of the menu and wanted to include it

Hi! I am in Shanghai rn and just had some amazing food but I am having trouble identifying one of the dishes I ate.

So I am looking for identification for the green salad thing

I hope that maybe the text underneath the menu is the name of it, when I run google translate over it it says "enoki Pilze" and it def was not enoki mushrooms. At least not the enoki I know from the Asian market in Germany.

It honestly might be just lettuce with a special dressing but I don't think so, it felt more like cabbage and was really buttery and creamy

Adress is here https://www.happycow.net/reviews/xiangchun-story-shanghai-462206

I really enjoyed this place, had broiled black tofu there yesterday and it was so good

Netherlands

How hard is it to be vegan and gluten free in the Netherlands? Do I just need to plan on going to grocery stores and hoping labels are in English? The trip is all over the country: Utrecht, Amsterdam, The Hague, Delft, and anywhere I decide to wander on my own.

Thank you.

Looking to connect with the vegan/vegetarian community around Caen 🌱

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m a vegan student from Tunisia, and I’ll be moving to Caen this September for an exchange semester at Université de Caen Normandie, where I’ll be doing my M2 in English studies.

I’d love to connect with people from the vegan and vegetarian community in Caen and nearby cities — whether that’s meeting up for a coffee or meal, discovering vegan-friendly places, attending events, or simply making some new friends who share similar values. 🌱

If you’re from Caen or the surrounding area, I’d be happy to hear from you! And if you know of any vegan/vegetarian groups, communities, events, restaurants, or activities around Normandy that I should check out, feel free to comment or DM me. 😊

Looking forward to discovering the area and meeting some fellow vegans and vegetarians!

Yes another Holiday post, help!

We are a family of 4, us grown ups (ish), and our 5 year old twin girls.

I am currently loosing my mind trying to find a decent holiday for us for next year, either Easter holidays or May Half Term.

Looking for a family resort type thing, not necessarily beach that will actually have decent food for us to eat, as well as a good kids club so we get some R&R too.

We have previously done Ikos and Sani, and whilst they cater well to us adults in the A La Carte restaurants (less so the buffet, for anyone wanting protein), the options for the girls where really poor. Some placed had basically no options for them that where even veggie let alone vegan. Which meant the only options were margarita pizza, no cheese, ot tomato pasta. No plant based burger, nuggets, Tofu, Chickpeas, veggie burger e.t.c

It's a real shame as we very much like the holiday other than that and it seems like such a silly oversight?

So, I have gone googling and tripadvsoring and all of the good things, and every time I think I've found the right option, something kills it.

It's like Vegan people basically don't take their kids on holiday, or am I delusional in trying to find somewhere like this with the constraints and we are stuck Self Catering for the foreseeable future?

If anyone has any suggestions of somewhere they have personally been to, with kids, that they would recommend, I would love the information.

Thanks!

Just blowing off some steam

I’m travelling with omnivores which is not an issue for me, but I’m struggling to get excited for dinners where I have one option to eat on the whole and they have 8 for mains alone. Yesterday I was guilted because the restaurant was accommodating for me, but I’ve to get excited about a wedge of lettuce with oil and vinegar while they have 5 starter options, a bread basket, and 8 different main options from fish to steak? And don’t even get me started on mains that are really sides. Since when was polenta a whole damn meal!

Vegan On Roadtrip through United States?

Hi my partner and I are vegan! I have been since 2017 but he is a baby vegan still and is worried about his diet for an upcoming tour. He is a musician and will have shows at a bunch of major cities, which we will definitely find vegan restaurants at, but I am being warned that there are not a lot of vegan options late night and passing through certain states. (I am very anti-fast food both on an establishment level and personally as I have ulcerative colitis and things like Taco Bell, Burger King, McDonalds will legitimately make me sick)
I am looking for alternatives for fast food passing through places that are sort of “food deserts.”
We will have access to a small fridge but no stove, more than likely maybe a microwave.

I will probably have to pack things? If so what keeps well yet is still nutritious?

What are some ways we can avoid fast food and stay vegan and dare I say, even be healthy and fulfilled while traveling on tour?

Vegan Options in South Peru?

Hi! I’ll be traveling with my partner for about 3 weeks moving along the southern region of Peru, including Arequipa, the Colca Canyon, Puno, Cusco, Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes. I know that there are plenty of options at least in the big cities (Arequipa and Cusco, and maybe Puno), but I’d like to know if anyone who has been in any if the smaller towns has any suggestions. Also, I’d love to hear some recommendations for must try restaurants in Cusco or Arequipa.

We’re fluent in Spanish, both of us are Chilean, so language is a non issue.

Thanks in advance!

This Year's Je (Vegan) Festival Will Take Place From October 8-18 in Thailand!

Thumbnail
thefutureisvegan.substack.com
75 Upvotes

If you're planning on visiting Thailand, the best time to come is during the Je Festival, which is a 9-day festival (some cities celebrate a little longer) where people will eat plant-based food for spiritual cleansing.

Many supermarkets, restaurants, shops, and street food stalls will serve special vegan food during that time. You can easily find vegan food everywhere because the places celebrating Je Fest will decorate with bright yellow and red je flags. And any packaged food that is vegan will be marked with je stickers.

Because the dates of the festival must coincide with the lunar cycle, the dates change every year. This year, the festival will be from October 10-18. Phuket, Krabi, and Bangkok are the best places to celebrate.

You can read my article for more information about the festival, including the history and spiritual significance. This festival has been around for 201 years!

Have you been to Thailand during the Je Festival?
