By all means, when you see something, fully handle it.

We just used to poke at stuff with sticks...

FULLY handled it.

I've never seen a more thorough handling in my life. Halfway through I was thinking "Wow, OP's wife must be a lucky lady" But then I remembered that he's got whatever that thing is all over his hands for the rest of eternity.

And uncommon sense can be either of high or low quality.

I miss the stick poke days, Plus then you could always fling it at your buddy If you really needed someone to actually check the texture of the goo.
