not so much coopted as much as it has split into different branches of praxis which disagree with each other

but someone like pol pot is considered a fascist autocrat opportunist by everyone across the board lol

Idk, basically every self proclaimed "communist" government is notoriously oppressive & corrupt. Soviet Union being THE premier (heh) example.
