Depends on the context

Female is more of an adjective than Woman/Girl is

So like, "my female boss" or "my boss who is a girl"

The second one still feels better probably because of connotation but still

My biggest pet peeve is when people use the words male and female as nouns when talking about people. I understand it in a professional context like a hospital, but in basically any other it just sounds dehumanizing.

Are you a native english speaker, because as a non-native one it somehow sounds better to me to say "female prime minister" than "woman prime minister" even though it might be less correct

That's using female as an adjective not noun
