Honestly this thing confuses the hell out of me as a non native, I hear WOMEN (see I did it right) call themselves female all the time, in my own language we also have of course female and woman and its really interchangeable, so sometimes while I'm speaking quickly it does drop.. but theres never any particular intent behind it!

At the same time though I do also see the classic manosphere chuds using it to belittle women, so I understand why it would be an issue, I just wish words in general weren't so finnicky, it should be more about the context and intent, but its not that simple I'm sure

tldr use it as an adjective like "female friends" or "male teacher" or whatever. or like "the patient was female."

but using it as a noun, like "i don't talk to females" is the weird-sounding part. that's how you talk about livestock, not human beings

Yeah I agree, seeing some examples people are doing its absolutely something I never said even by accident, so perhaps I just miss-understood what people complained about, because what you said there would instantly sound wrong and weird to me even as a non-native
