God yugioh anime has such a "dick sucking the MC" problem. Like it's a thing in pretty much all shonen but in yugioh it's just insane. That too discarding how much he fucking wins, he has like a 95% win rate, how can there be any drama when he wins literally everything

Feels like an unfortunate side-effect of it being a card game anime. It's either a tournament arc where defeat is elimination or a dark magic arc where defeat means Shadow Realm.

Half the arcs would be over if he had some character-growth losses along the way, purely because of the way the setting is handled.

GX handled it a bit better where there was lots of potential to lose in the school setting.

For sure they do, but I don't think they do in the show at any point. Just a straight elimination format mostly, iirc.

Thats what makes it amazing. Somehow the writers create tension in a medium where β€œI play the instant win card” is always on the table, and usually is how conflicts resolve
