Its nothing but cheap "look at this thing you remember" references over a mediocre plot, which would have sucked for any other adaptation, but was apparently exactly what RPO the book was as well.

Unironically the book actually does it way more. There are entire paragraphs, as in multiple right after each other, talking about nothing but which 80s media the protagonist has seen.

I don't remember the book well, but I'm pretty sure there was an in depth explanation on which order he watches the star wars movies

No I finished reading it last week and I don't remember anything about that. Well it might have been in those paragraphs that I skipped because I couldn't be fucked to read which movies I never heard about a fictional character has seen for 10 whole minutes

The constant use of the engrish when talking about Japanese spiderman could have been cut out and I wouldn't have cared
