Its nothing but cheap "look at this thing you remember" references over a mediocre plot, which would have sucked for any other adaptation, but was apparently exactly what RPO the book was as well.
Unironically the book actually does it way more. There are entire paragraphs, as in multiple right after each other, talking about nothing but which 80s media the protagonist has seen.
No I finished reading it last week and I don't remember anything about that. Well it might have been in those paragraphs that I skipped because I couldn't be fucked to read which movies I never heard about a fictional character has seen for 10 whole minutes
would have been a 10/10 movie if the uncanny valley wasnt a thing. i suspect it would actually have looked better if they leaned more in the video game style instead of making a weird mashup between cgi and real life.
also some design choices were just plain ugly imo.
Like I said in the last post, everybody be looking like either a sex doll, a make up doll, or like they're ready to be put in a coffin for the funeral.
The graphics card has to render, or at least partially render the frame. The the llm looks at it and says " that's nice but..." and sends it's update. Then your graphics card finishes rendering or renders a new frame.
It's adding middle management to your game
There's a reason that the announcement video had sever distortions and artefacting on moving faces in the soccer portion
There is nothing to do with an LLM in DLSS 5. I know not everyone here thinks that is the case, but that's a really silly preconception a lot of people are basing their arguments on about AI more generally.
In most cases such as this one I wouldn't even call it misunderstaning terms. It's just a preconceived notion produced from zero topical understanding and being about as uninformed as one can possibly be about the subject before talking about it. It takes less than a minute to Google and learn some of the ways AI is not limited to LLMs, which are just glorified text autocomplete, and it takes less than 15 seconds to Google and learn that DLSS 5 doesn't use that at all.
As a professional that is aware of most of the nuance and agrees with most of the criticisms, AI discourse online is fucking exhausting. No, AlphaFold, the AI model that has enabled us to predict hundreds of millions of new protein structures and literally save lives, is not the same thing as the chatbots that help you cheat on your take-home assignments. And by the way, your professors can almost always tell.
Putting aside the ones where people cranked it way past reasonable settings, tbh I'm just kinda underwhelmed by it. A lot of the time it just ups the contrast and sharpness, and adds some extra random shadows or highlights. It's like a visual version of FL Studio's "Soundgoodizer", just doing random tweaks that usually get people to go "that looks better" in an A/B test, but when playing the actual game normally you won't really notice.
It seems like a thing where in a few years when they get it to stop fucking with character faces, and it's being put on games that from the ground up where it's being considered from the start, it would offer some minor improvements, but the cost needed to actually be able to do it seems not really worth it. Just adjust your TV's contrast.
As it is right now, even if you can get something looking decent it just makes the kinda janky game animations look even worse. When it "looks like a video game", that stuff sticks out less.
this is honestly the only example I've seen that doesn't look like an screenshot ran thorugh chatGPT and even then, this just looks like the same image but in a higher resolution.
DLSS 5 has a thing where it either changes nothing or makes the game look like an AI generated video. It honestly would be better if we just tried to make games look better naturally instead of trying to force an AI layer between them
Yeah, from what I've seen it ether is not making much of a meaningful difference, or it just is trying to shove everything into the same generic GenAI realistic look. I saw another person theorize that it's going to lead to a bump in games pushing "hyper-realism", but then we are going to hit a wall where all of the AAA games look exactly the same, and to stand out games are going to get more stylized which so far this does not seem like it would help much with.
Any of the improvements are things that can just be done in-engine on similarly expensive hardware, from what I've seen DLSS5 takes a lot of power to run and can hit framerates hard so it's not like it's an alternative to the other expensive hardware.
I think overall it's kinda funny how when used subtly and thoughtfully *it's not bad*, but a subtle minor improvement is not going to be effective in marketing expensive hardware so they can recoup the pile of money burned to develop it.
If it were not for screenshots like this, it would probably not get much attention.
Faces are one of the worst aspects of it, it ether makes them more shiny but *whatever*, or looks awful and just can't deal with any level of stylized art.
Other than that when somewhat reasonably applied, it tends to do mild color corrections, and just adds shadows. tbh If it were not for the slopifyed faces it's kinda boring.
the only time it looked good was when someone applied it to gta 4 and it added extra reflections and detail to textures plus improved the lighting. Basically the only good use for this tech is to essentially "remaster" old games at the cost of fps.
Me trying to understand why there's people gaslighting themselves into thinking that making everything look like a depressing indie film about how bad is war, it's actually, a graphic update:
I feel like the leak is a psyop to try and gather an "organic" following around it, everytime I see an image of it, it looks like genuine dogshit and then there are people underneath defending it saying the exact same thing everytime "it's actually a huge leap for graphic technology".
I refuse to believe these people are real so I'm just going to act like the leak is a psyop and the people defending it are just astroturfing.
Honestly think the amount of praise it's getting in some gaming subs is astroturfed. Like, multiple posts in different subs, with a similar amount of upvotes and similar praise.
The only games it seems to improve the graphics on is the heavily asset flipped ue5 engine games that just doesn't have a design to begin with. and fans of those games are already annoying to begin with.
I don't think game execs realize that the next generation of gamers give zero shit about graphical fidelity, the next generation of gamers is being trained by Minecraft, Roblox and Fortnite on what they should expect and experience, this run for hyper hyperfidelity, now with this instagram filter just shows the shortcommings of such imbecile decision making
I want videogames to still look like games, imagine if they did this shit to anime, like "oh now you can watch Jujutsu Kaisen with the hyper realistic filter" as if that's why people watch anime
It adds contact shadows in older games and "enhances" the face, it's way less noticeable for side characters and it makes them the same quality as the main character before dlss5. I didn't tweak anything so it removed the filter which some people don't like (i like the orange filter from before tho)
There is nothing to do with a chatbot in DLSS 5. I know not everyone here thinks that is the case, but that's a really silly preconception a lot of people are basing their arguments on about AI more generally.
Some examples are really bad, but ngl in others it rrally doesn't look that much different than any other Reshade filter.
In FF14 it really doesn't change that much, though there are pictures floating around that show some bad examples.
From my experience using the mod tho...not that bad tbh.
It's inconsistent tho for sure.
Tho honestly I doubt it's actually changing much to begin with and it's moreso that most games aren't made with this kind of realism in mind. The charackter faces would need to be build around DLSS 5 to make it look much better, but that would be the worst outcome imo since at that point games would require it.
To me DLSS 5 should really only be like the current mod, a tool for players to change a games look to their liking like with existing mods or Reshade filters.
The problem is that DLSS 5 is basically being pushed as "the future of gaming" by nvidia. Lets be honest here, wouldn't a company spending millions on this also try to push game companies to rely on it?
