Basswood, knife and gouges only

Stain is black walnut danish oil, then true black strain over top to give it the weathered look and distressed and buff to show a lot more of the black walnut underneath.

Made of a pine scrap from my old rabbit thumping stick. Figure it might need a little more sanding if I want it to be an eating spoon rather than for coffee grounds. Any suggestions on finish? I was just going to dunk it in olive oil.

This is my first attempt at whittling. My goal is to make one of those cool ghosts people make but the eyes are a major struggle for me. I’m using basswood and a Flexcut KN13. I also got some weird things going on with the wood in the front. Any suggestions?

I found a new whittling teacher! What started out as a little practice sailor guy inspired and taught by David Pico, quickly spiraled into the need to also build him a seaside village and also give him a puppy dog. Accepting names for the little green shop :)

Howdy folks, i live in India and have been very interested in whittling for the past few years.

However, i cannot find any (affordable) sources for basswood, do y'all know any websites or whatnot that i could use to find what i need?

I need to start back up but it’s finding the time

First is my most recent and largest piece and the last was my first attempt at carving anything.

I've got a couple little pieces I had completed between these but I didn't put as much time or care into those.

Given how long I've been at this I'm very pleased with what I've been able to come up with.

No YouTube or plans. Just from my brain to the wood!

Nothing crazy fancy, but a way to learn my cuts and try my Silvern knife!

It was my birthday recently, and my wife got me this OTT nice knife (Helle Mandra). I go camping regularly and only ever need a knife for small tasks, but would like to make better use of this one.

I've been following your amazing posts and have watched some YT tutorials. But I haven't found a basic whittling task I could take on without investing in a finer carving knife.

Do I need to go off and get a basic BeaverCraft kit to do anything worth making? Or does anyone know of some nice starter projects I could tackle with just the neck knife?

I'd rather hold off and invest in a proper detailing knife to go along with the Helle rather than get a kit that I'll want to discard if I enjoy the hobby.
