OFFTOPIC NIL Transparency

Modern times require money to bring talent and help us compete. But it’s very weird that there’s no information about the amounts despite every other employee of the university having their salary publicly reportable. The kids can get their money, but why is it hidden from the taxpayers?

I think because in previous years there was no revenue sharing so all the money was in name image likeness deals with private companies. I’d expect the new revenue sharing money being paid directly from the university to get reported in the public record budget next year though. Although I heard they spun athletics off into some private corporation held by the university so that might affect things.

If it's spun off, it would be nice if they stop taking money from the health system.

They don’t. UK Athletics supports itself and returns money to the university yearly though they did have to borrow money from the university this first year of rev share while they adapt to the new reality of having to pay players.

“Supports itself” but did have to borrow money this first year. That statement means it doesn’t support itself. Ask yourself why the health system leadership is also university executive branch. It’s so the money can flow interchangeably to the athletic budget as needed.

You got a source for any of that? Admittedly, I haven’t looked at the details in a few years but that was definitely not the case in the past.

Edit: also they wouldn’t have publicly borrowed money from the university if they were clandestinely shifting money from the health system as needed. And no acquiring a one time debt that they then pay back does not mean they don’t support themselves. That’d be like saying you don’t support yourself because you have a mortgage or a car loan.
