Bot Crowd Control

Quick mod update!

The bots really love the '80s, so I've turned on Crowd Control and enabled Bot Bouncer.

Most of you won't notice any difference, but brand-new or low-activity accounts may have posts or comments held briefly for review.

Thanks for helping keep r/80sMovies about the movies and not the spambots.

Keep Posts Focused on 80s Movies, Not Low-Effort Celebrity Photos

Quick reminder: this is r/80smovies, a place to talk about, share, and celebrate movies from the 1980s.

Lately we’ve had too many posts that are just pictures of popular actresses from the 80s, especially low-effort “hot celebrity” type posts or half-dressed glamour/swimsuit photos. That includes repeated Phoebe Cates posts and similar content where the movie connection feels like an excuse to post the picture.

Posts about actors, actresses, scenes, performances, trivia, interviews, behind-the-scenes info, posters, trailers, soundtracks, and real movie discussion are absolutely welcome.

But posts that are mainly focused on someone’s appearance, rather than the movie, are getting ejected from the arcade. They will be treated as spam.

Going forward:

  • Posts like this may be removed without warning.
  • Repeat offenders may be temporarily or permanently banned.

So grab your popcorn, rewind the tape, adjust the tracking, and help keep r/80smovies focused on the movies, the performances, the stories, the scenes, the soundtracks, and the nostalgia.

Thanks.

Discussion (Let’s Roll Tape) I remember my mom took us to go see The Fox and the Hound in 1981. Such a beautiful movie with a great message. Saw it again tonight and it still gets me choked up. Corey Feldman was the voice of young Copper, Kurt Russell was the voice of the older Copper. Mickey Rooney was the voice of Tod.

The Road Warrior (1981) Definitely the best, Mad Max from the original series, this time Max agrees to help a small, gasoline-rich community get rid of a horde of bandits.

Where else can you get Darth Vader getting the jump on Sensei Kreese while in Greece; then seeing the full acting potential of Lydia Cornell (Too Close for Comfort) and why she got hired for her… talent… while virgins appease something horrible?

Behind the smiles and the “normal” lives, everyone has their own strange little corners, their fears, and their imperfections. Some are simply better at hiding theirs. We’re all just trying to make sense of ourselves in our own way.

One of my favorite movies from one of my favorite directors. Saw it new in the theater when I was a kid and couldn’t have loved it more. Have you seen it and if so what did you think of this silly “little” gem?

"Leslie had a little "machine" — nobody really knew about it in Hollywood then, but now everyone does. It became legendary. It was a little thing he put in his hand and squeezed, and it was basically a fart machine. It was like a handheld whoopee cushion, and he just played it like a maestro. Your eyes would be watering, you're laughing so hard."

Oh, yeah, the little known strange Robert Altman film of the 80’s with a young Jon Cryer. Actually filmed in 1983 but not released until 1987 because it was so weird the studio had no idea what to do with it. I ran into on HBO in 88 or 89 and I was immediately transfixed by how damn weird it was. Calling Bongo in Ghana to run up the “SCHWAAAB’s” phone bill, the crazy jacked up Studebaker, and the obsession with King Sunny Ade. Just so much weirdness it was perfect. I can’t be the only one to have watched this under appreciated gem back in the day, can I?

And if you want to revisit it you can watch it on YouTube

Wonder whatever happened to Chainsaw and Dave. Were they behind the Scream franchise? Are they doing local theater and in charge is the annual haunted house? Are they huge slasher film collectors and just missed the guys from pickers. I have questions.

Man, the first time watching this movie I was like "that old man just kiss that teenager lol! wth"   Doctor Dan's 3rd party love affair gone wrong lol. That's how I describe this film. I remember back then they hated this cause it's kinda out of place and people are looking for Michael Myers. But to be fair, it's is still a fun horror movie on its own rights.
