CARE mode AIO for getting mad at my brother who keeps misgendering me?

Hi so I’m 16m and my brother is 13m, I’m trans (ftm) and I had come out to him when I was 13. I’m very open to telling him about it because his opinion is really valuable to me since the way I look at it it’s not only my life being changed, it is also his because he is ‘losing’ his sister. I’m honest with him about how being misgendered by people really hurts me and how I really wish people would see me as a guy and how happy I get when people do refer to me as one.

All of this to say is that he knows about me being trans but kind of just refuses to acknowledge it?

He jokes very often about how I don’t have male genitalia like him, how I’ll never be an actual guy, repeatedly refers to me as a woman, etc.

At first I kind of just let it slide with joking back like ‘yes, I am’ or ‘what defines being a ‘real’ man’ but lately the jokes are just getting more and more common and I’m scared that he truly doesn’t and will not ever see me as his brother.

A few days ago we had been in my room and he had already made a few jokes that I let pass but I was getting more and more annoyed, so when he made another, kind of along the lines of ‘wow I feel bad for Oswald (my cat) because he doesn’t have a dad’.

Kind of fed up with my identity once again being disregarded I blew up on him. I didn’t yell or anything but I instead told him, kind of rudely I’ll be honest, to get out of my room since he couldn’t respect me.

He got mad and annoyed and stormed out and later in the day he tried to hang out again but he hadn’t apologized so I wasn’t willing. He got mad again and said I need to ‘get over it’ and that I was ‘overreacting’ but the way I see it I’m not.

My identity is being a trans man, I don’t think I’m being rude or dramatic for wanting that to be respected. But I also know he is still just a kid, and it may be crazy for me to assume he should do as I say.

I would have asked people in my real life but only my older sister knows I’m trans and she would be pretty lenient on my brother because he’s younger. So am I overreacting and if so how can I control my emotions better as to not lash out on him?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO Found messages on my GF’s phone promising her future to another guy

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I need some outside perspective on a situation with my girlfriend. I came across a screenshot of a text conversation between her and her friend.

The messages are in French textspeak/slang, so I’ve translated them below for context.

In the texts, she’s talking about another guy:
"Bonsoir cv? 5:15PM / Tkt j'ai déjà vu 5:15PM // Je voulais juste pas répondre"
Translation: "Evening, how are you? Don't worry, I already saw [his text]. I just didn't want to reply."
"J'ai pas envie de lui parler c'est tout je le déteste pas tout va bien j'ai compris ce kil a dit"
Translation: "I just don't feel like talking to him, that's all. I don't hate him, everything is fine, I understood what he said."
"Genre j'ai rien à dit j'ai compris je vais tenue ça promesse et inshaAllah tout finira bien dit lui de continuer ce kil avais commencé ke je suis la et je vais revenir genre suis pas morte tout ira bien"
Translation: "Like, I have nothing to say, I understood. I'm going to keep that promise, and God willing everything will end up fine. Tell him to keep going with what he started, that I'm here and I'll come back—like, I'm not dead, everything will be fine."
"De juste pas être triste que ya just un peu de temps et je serai à lui pour tjr mais mtn il faut chacun ce concentrer sur ça vie."
Translation: "Tell him not to be sad, that it's just a little bit of time and I will be his forever, but right now everyone needs to focus on their own life."
I’m struggling to process this. She’s actively telling her friend to pass messages to this guy, reassuring him that her current situation is just temporary and that she’ll "be his forever" after some time.

Is there any way this is being misinterpreted, or is this clear emotional cheating?

How should I approach confronting her about this?
Thanks for any insights or advice.

❤️‍🩹 relationship Am I overreacting about finding condoms at my girlfriend’s place

Am I overreacting about finding condoms at my girlfriend’s place?
I’m trying to figure out if I’m reading too much into this or if this is something I should genuinely be concerned about.
I was at my girlfriend’s place and while I was in the restroom, she asked me to grab something out of one of her cabinets. While looking for it, I came across a brand new, unopened box of condoms.
Normally I probably wouldn’t immediately jump to conclusions, except we don’t use condoms. At all. And the brand I found is actually the brand she prefers/used before.
The box is completely unopened, so obviously I’m not saying this proves she’s cheating. But I can’t get past the question of why someone in a relationship where condoms aren’t being used would recently have a brand new box sitting there.
My mind immediately went to either she bought them because she’s planning on sleeping with someone else, or there’s some explanation I’m not thinking of.
I haven’t accused her of anything, and I don’t want to create a problem based purely on an assumption.
Would finding this make you suspicious too? Or am I overreacting and there are reasonable explanations I’m overlooking?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO? Girlfriend wants to travel alone for a month

We’re (36 M, 30 F) a phenomenal couple. Things have felt really strong for a long time now. I love her and I feel sure she loves me.

We are long distance and we’ve been visiting back and forth frequently for a while now. However, the times between have been hard and I really want to close the distance ASAP. She also wants to, but she seems like she has more of a “what’s the rush?” attitude. She does have a more independent personality and she likes alone time, whereas I basically would prefer to be with her as much as possible.

We’re in a position where I can’t visit her for 6 months due to work, but she can visit me. The thought was for her to visit sometime in the fall.

She has a bit of money saved up, and yesterday, she told me that she wants to go to Aruba alone for a month. She said that she’s always had a dream of backpacking alone. I have no issue with this, but… this would mean that it would happen in place of our previously aspired fall trip and more than likely, I would not see her for 6 months.

I’m trying to be supportive, but I’m feeling really hurt by this. I’m currently in a position where I have such a strong desire to close the distance so that we don’t have to have long periods away from each other. This feels like such a move in the other direction.

She says that it’s something she’s always dreamed of doing and she’s not sure if she’ll ever get the chance to do it again.

I truly believe there isn’t any other guy or anything. She’s a very solitary, introverted person who loves nature. I truly believe that she isn’t cheating or anything.

Still… she could just wait until February and then I could go with her. I wanna go. A month feels like a long time and I just can’t quite understand why going alone is so important to her, and more-so, how that could prioritize us visiting each other.

AIO? A little? I dunno.

🎓 academic/school AIO for trying to get my classmate with cancer kicked out of the class

I apologize in advance for the amount of context. I (18 yo f) was in the beauty program at our local community college at the time.

In the first week of the fall semester, everyone is beginning to get to know each other, and as an upperclassman, I reached out to the new students.

I paired up with an elderly woman and started to get to know her as we worked on each other. We'll call her Jamie. In getting to know her, I found out that she has a few kids, all adults, and that she is in her early 40's. When I asked about her kids, she told me that she didn't have the best relationship with them because she hadn't been the best mother. I decided to drop it because clearly it was a touchy subject.

Fast forward a few weeks, and we notice that Jamie and one of our teachers (Monica) were having hushed conversations.

Eventually, we find out that Jamie has colon c@ncer, and it's pretty far along. Jamie tells us that she has chemo only on Mondays, because her doctors want to take a less invasive approach.

At this point, the rest of my classmates and I are being very careful around Jamie. We wouldn't come to class if we even had a slight cough, for fear of getting her sick and making it harder on her with a weakened immune system from chemo.

She frequently had to go home because of being nauseous, and the teachers were giving her many exceptions because of the situation, but especially Monica, since she had a grandson go through chemo.

When we came back in January for the spring semester, nothing really changed for the first few weeks. We knew that Jamie was still going through chemo, but at this point, it was clear it wasn't affecting her enough to not get her work done, and we didn't think anything about it.

But a few weeks in, Jamie tells one of my classmates, Stella (19 f), that she is in a toxic relationship.

She shows Stella the boarded-up house she is living in with her boyfriend, and tells her about how awful he treats her.

Stella starts trying to help Jamie out of this situation. She gives her resources, helps her get a hotel room, gives her financial support, all while trying to get this man in jail for what he's doing to her. Jamie tells Stella that the resources are not helping her. Stella starts calling places herself and can't figure out why no one is helping Jamie.

While all of this is going on, one of the other girls in the class, Piper, has been talking to Jamie's adult son. Jamie's son doesn't like his mom. Piper asks him why he is always so negative about his mom, how he could hate such a sweet old lady going through a hard time. He proceeds to tell Piper that she has no idea who his mother really is, that Jamie has been faking cancer, then proceeds to send her the links to news reports, YouTube videos, and the criminal convictions.

Piper then shows her friend, and they decide that they need to tell Stella, because she is still in the middle of trying to help Jamie. Once they tell Stella, she blows her top and confronts Jamie. Jamie gets defensive, saying that the FBI is out to get her, spreading fake news, and that if we tried to pry into her past, then there will be consequences.

From reading the reports, we find out that Jamie has Munchausen and Munchausen by proxy. Ever heard of Gypsy Rose? Jamie has the same thing as the mom in that situation.

Jamie had faked miscarrying twins after having her tubes tied, po!sened her son into making the doctors think he needed his gall bladder removed, committed mass fraud by putting up posters asking for donations because her daughter "had c@ncer," and had been locking her stepson in a small box at night, claiming he had v!o!ent tendencies.

She was convicted of child crue!ty and fraud, being given 8 years in prison and 30 years' parole back in 2008.

After we found this out, we wanted her kicked out of the program. Our teachers found out about it as well, but they couldn't do anything about it. We had minors in the class, including myself at the time, and none of us felt safe with her in the class. We found out later that she had multiple phones and had faked c@ncer before.

She refused to drop the class, but none of us would interact with her anymore, other than the ones who didn't know about the situation.

She's banned from the town over, where everything took place back in 2008.

I've graduated now, but Jamie is still in the program. Once we stopped giving her attention, she moved on to trick another lady at the school into giving her money, claiming that we were refusing to help her.

Were my classmates and I overreacting when we tried to get her kicked out?

Edit: At first we thought she just looked older than she was; that's why I used elderly. We found out that she had also lied about her age and was actually in her 60's.

Edit: She threatened violence against anyone who dug into her past. I got a lot of comments on that

👥 friendship AIO Because My Friend Licks All 10 Fingers During Restaurant Meals

I have a good friend who I sometimes go out to dinner with. At some point during every meal, usually in the middle or toward the end, he puts each of his 10 fingers in his mouth and licks them (one by one). I'm always repulsed by this but I have never said anything and I never will because I hate confrontation. I've seen people who do this with one or two fingers and I think that's also repulsive. I'd like to know if you think this is normal to do, not just in a public setting but even in the privacy of your own home. Am I overreacting? Thanks.

EDIT: When I ask if I am overreacting I'm referring to whether my inner objection and repulsion to it is an overreaction or justified. I have questioned whether "it's just me" that feels this way in a situation like this and that maybe I'm overreacting.

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO for being upset at my boyfriend for not saying anything while his brother-in-law was flirting with other women?

Usually these posts are so clear what the answer is, but I am really unsure if I am overreacting. Let me know if I’m being insane, dramatic, justified, or some combination of the three lol.

I (F, 23) am dating my boyfriend, Mike (23). Mike and his soon to be BIL Jake (32) play in a little league sports team, and they traveled to a very popular bar/nightlife city this past weekend for a game. It's important to note that Jake is newly engaged to Mike's sister, so he’s literally about to become his brother in law.

They went out to a bar afterward, and according to Mike, Jake spent a good amount of the night dancing with and talking to multiple women. Probably around three different women, mostly somewhere in their 40-60s He was holding their hands, spinning them around, dancing with them, chatting them up, etc.

One of the women also had a younger daughter there (20s) and Jake was dancing with her too.

When Mike told me about it, I got really upset with him. I basically said, how are you just standing there watching your sister’s fiancé openly flirt with other women and not saying anything?

Mike's argument is that it was harmless dancing and that Jake wasn’t doing anything serious. I feel differently. If he was dancing with some elderly women because she wanted to dance and he was just being sweet, I genuinely wouldn’t care. But these were women only 10-20ish years older than him, and from the way Mike described it to me I wouldn’t be okay with my man doing that.

I’m not saying Mike is responsible for controlling a grown man, but I feel like if I watched my sibling’s fiancé acting like that, I would at least say something to them or be uncomfortable with it.

I ended up getting upset/annoyed at Mike over the fact that he didn’t see anything wrong with it or intervene at all.

Am I overreacting? Is this just harmless bar dancing and none of mine or Mike's business, or is it reasonable for me to feel weird over this?

EDIT: Guys this is not like some big blow out fight or anything between Mike and I. I just wanted some insight on if I had the right to feel weird about it

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO for refusing to speak to my mother until she apologizes

Post image
0 Upvotes

Some context. Me and my mother work for the same company and we travel together everyday except on Tuesdays and Thursdays she works from home so I make my own arrangements. I have a coworker who lives around the same area so I catch a lift when I need to. I message her today and asked if she can give me and a lift and she replied with a thumbs up message. After work I was waiting for her but she didn't show up. After half an hour of waiting I went a message asking if she's still around and I got no reply so I called my mother to tell her and ask if she can pick me up. I said I'm sorry to ask but it wasn't my fault. She said it is my fault because I don't communicate properly. This really pissed me off because she always frames situations so that it's my fault. I put the phone down and when she called back, I told her I'm not talking to her until she apologizes because I'm sick of always being the one in the wrong

Did I not communicate properly, am I overreacting?

Edit: to clarify, sorry if it's confusing. The screenshot is of my coworker. As I was uploading the post she replied so I just included it in the screenshot. Me and the coworkers is cool, she said she fucked up and said she's really sorry. I'm pissed at my mother because she keeps insisting that it's my fault I got left behind. She often makes paints things like I'm incompetent. I understand she was upset about having to come pick me up, I fully said sorry and I'll make it up to her but what really pisses me off is this was not my fault and I'm tired of her always making it like it's my fault

Double Edit: My mother and I talked about it. She said she was pissed off because she assumed that it was my fault and I get a "pass" for this one. And yes I Uberd home

❤️‍🩹 relationship Aio for dumping my talking stage after one date?

So i female (35) went out with some work colleagues on a Saturday night for drinks. While there a gentleman (40s) approached our table while i was in the washroom asking about me from the other two ladies. When i got back he came to me asking if i was single and wouldn’t mind sharing my contact with him. I am single and searching and he was cute so yeah i gave him my number and went about my evening with my colleagues.
He sent me a message on WhatsApp immediately asking me to leave my colleagues and go to a different location with him. I refused. He stayed back and paid for all our drinks and for the next 3 hours kept asking to take me to another location which was more fun and relaxing.
I finally gave in when we had decided to leave (stupid me) but i shared my live location with the girls and told him i did so. He drove me to a place near my house which turned out to be a night club. I told him i wasn’t into night clubs and wanted to go home. I stayed a few hours with him until a fight broke out and i finally had a reason to leave. He dropped me off at my condo building around 4:30 am.
The whole of sunday he kept messaging me to hang out again and i refused. Told him i was out all night and needed to recoup my energy for the week ahead.
The whole week he kept messaging me to meet up after work but i refused and insisted on meeting on a weekend and also said i didn’t want to go to a night club again but would like to go see the new spiderman movie so that could be our date. He said he would get the tickets.
Saturday came and he never told me what time to meet up until 9:30 when he asked to come pick me up. I said no because it was already late and i didn’t think he had the movie tickets anyway. He said we could go get dinner and he would bring me back home. I said okay. He said 11:45pm. I’m like thats rather late.He came at 12 midnight anyway and took me straight to a night club again! I wasn’t happy and insisted on leaving. So he took me home reluctantly.
During the week he called me on WhatsApp again and i tried calling him back on regular phone call but it wouldn’t go through. I asked why his phone is off but WhatsApp works perfectly fine and he said he doesn’t have a phone number. Like what the hell? I can only communicate with him through WhatsApp and thats it.
Mind you i do not know this guys name. He said i should call him junior but wont tell me his real name. He wont share with me where he lives and is very evasive whenever i ask which part of Ontario he lives. Red flags popping up everywhere
On Wednesday i was sick and was taken to the hospital by my friend and i messaged to tell him. He said he would come at 11:45 pm to see me. I said that’s too late so he can come the next day. Next day he messaged again to come at 11;45pm to see me and i got furious.
This was the third time he said 11:45 to me whenever we were supposed to meet. He never has any other time aside 11:45pm.
So i told him off and blocked him on WhatsApp. He used a different WhatsApp number to message me. He can’t even call me on regular calls. I do not get it. I blocked that one too.
I think he is married or living with another woman. Or hiding from the cops cos who doesn’t have a phone number in 2026?
Did i overreact?

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO Sister's boyfriend doesn't want to meet family/friends

Upvotes

I (35F) just found out my older sister (47) has been dating a guy for seven months and he is suddenly moving in with her. No one (my family and I) didn't even know she was seeing anyone until she called to tell us he's moving in with her. He doesn't have a job currently and just sold his house. Apparently it was either moving to a different state or moving in with her. She said it was a split-second decision. He also said he doesn't want to meet any of her friends/family until he has a job...which who knows how long that will be. I don't know anything about this guy and my sister and I are super close. She said she didn't know if the relationship was going to go anywhere, so she didn't want to tell anyone. But, in seven months, she never mentioned anything and we talked every single day, sometimes multiple times a day. She said she feels like she's been living a double life because she didn't want to tell us about him...but why?!

To me, it feels like he's using her for a free place to stay. When I asked her why he can't just find his own place, all she ever says is "this just makes sense." No it doesn't!! Seven months isn't very long to date someone and move in with them, IMO. Especially when no one even knew he existed! My family is super close so this is really shocking to us.

I am concerned for her, as this is a complete 180 from anything she would ever do. It's almost like this isn't my sister because this isn't like her at all. I am worried that once he moves in, she won't be able to get him out and he will hurt her. I know she can make her own decisions, but man, this feels wrong. Plus, I guess when they first started seeing each other, he told her he wasn't really interested in her, but then changed his mind...? Like there are so many red flags to me. AIO??

👥 friendship AIO for being mad that my friends still hangout with this girl who lied about me?

Upvotes

I used to be friends with this girl, Taylor, and she was in this friend group that I was in. However, we stopped being friends after something happened between us. It's a long story so I don't want to get into the exact details, but basically, she told all my friends that I did something to make me look like a bad person. The thing is, I didn't actually do what she said. Later, she fully admitted that she had lied about it, she made a stupid excuse, but yet never apologized to me and never took any responsibly for it. This happened a couple of years ago, but I could never look at her the same. And I'm still sour about it. On top of that, I find her really annoying, and very self-centered.

The problem is that a lot of my friends still hangout with her on occasion, despite knowing what happened.

I'm especially close with this girl, Lola. Lola has always told me that she doesn't like Taylor and that she doesn't enjoy being around her because of what happened, and the type of person that she is.

Today, I found out that Lola and another person from our friend group were hanging out with Taylor. I only found out because they posted a photo together. As far as I know, nobody told me they were hanging out, and honestly, it almost seemed like they were trying to keep it a secret.

I know that they're allowed to hang out with whoever they want, and I don't expect everyone to stop being friends with her just because I don't like her. But what bothers me is specifically Lola. She has repeatedly told me that she doesn't like Taylor, and that she doesn't like being around her. So finding out that she hung out with Taylor without saying anything sort of feels weird, and honestly, kind of hypocritical. Keep in mind, this isn't the first time that Lola has hung out with her.

After that happened, it made me more upset than the last times. And I haven't hung out with Lola, or any of my other friends since. I also don't plan to for a little while.

AIO for being upset about this, and not wanting to be around them for a while. If not, how do you think I should handle this moving forward?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO for asking my bf to delete old tinder matches from his snap

I (26NB) feel like I’m insane for asking my bf (25M) ti delete three women from his snap friends, because they are his Tinder matches that ”never went anywhere”.

However, when I asked this he said that he would do that ONLY if I delete one of my closest friends, only because we ”dated” for a month when we were 17/18 (we’ve only been close friends basically since we broke up and there’s NEVER been anything between us since then)

AIO for not wanting to stop communications with one of my closest friends over wanting my partner to not snap with his Tinder matches?

(Before anyone comments about Snapchat, it’s always been normal for me and literally everyone I know to use it for communication)

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO Husband doesn’t care anymore

Husband and I been together 6 years, married 4. We have 3 kids. My mom recently passed (4 months ago) so there’s been more emotional hardship lately than we’ve ever experienced together and I can’t remember the last time he truly cared about me. He was there for me the first couple weeks after she passed in terms of when I needed to cry he’d be there to hug or give words of support. Since then we’ve had countless arguments and disagreements, almost always about how I don’t feel loved or cared for. He constantly complains about doing simple things for me or the household and I just don’t think he loves me, not sure that he ever did the more I think about it. He hasn’t once asked if I’m okay these past few months and honestly, every night, I’m not. Meanwhile, the past year I have been encouraging him to move up in his job as his job is pushing him to do so and he said he hates that I’m forcing him to do it. I don’t understand his point of view because if I had the opportunity to make more money (my job pushing me to) I would in a heart beat. I’d love to provide more for our family so I can’t understand why he feels it’s so terrible for me to ask him about it.
This turned into a disagreement and we didn’t talk for a day (he’ll never try to make up or be the first to say anything) so I asked him if he really cared anymore and he said he cared more before and it’s been dropping. I don’t want to be with someone who doesn’t put any effort in but gets pissed off when that gets brought to light. I told him to go sleep at his moms. AIO? Should we keep trying?

EDIT for more information: Moving up in his job is the same position with a few more responsibilities. Nothing else changes. We’ve been in a rough back and forth for a while with him not really caring or making an effort in anything related to marriage. It’s definitely not just a recent thing. I married him for a husband, including emotional connection, not for a dude that goes to work and comes home and that’s what I’m dealing with at the moment. I do all the finances I do all the appointments I do all the at home tasks and chores. In the past he’s told me he wants to try and be better and has even mentioned he might need therapy to get better, but it doesn’t lead to any action on his part.

EDIT for even more context: He works 14 days out of the month. I don’t tell him daily “YOU NEED TO MAKE MORE MONEY.” His job has told him he’s ready to have these few more tasks as a responsibility because he’s been there for 4 years. The job itself is the same, the higher pay comes with the POSSIBILITY he may have to do a few different things that he already sometimes does, with help. I know much about it aside from what just he’s told me because a friend of the family that works with him has talked to us about it and wondered why he hasn’t taken his test. My “encouragement” over this last year has been telling him I’m positive he could pass the test because he can do anything he puts his mind to. If I wrote everything that happens in our life for context, this post would be a book. I tried to keep it as simple as possible so I was more straight forward in this post, perhaps making me seem harsh to him, but this has been a long battle, it didn’t happen overnight. He is aware that he doesn’t provide emotional support, he is aware that he comes across as not loving or caring, I am aware I come across as tired of it.

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO? Boyfriend kept painting he made of ex in our bedroom?

Upvotes

My boyfriend and I (early 30s) have been together around a year and and are living together. He paints and draws in his free time, and often creates artwork of women - generally models, singers, actors - including one of a semi-nude woman that we have hanging in our living room.

A couple months ago, we had some friends over; one woman asked how I’m okay with having a big-chested naked woman displayed in our living room (I am clearly more small-chested). I said I didn’t mind because it’s a beautiful painting and it’s of a famous woman, not someone my boyfriend knows personally. Later, I asked my boyfriend to confirm that none of the paintings in our apartment are of women he’d had relations with. Only one painting is on display, but there are other paintings either stored away in the closet or sitting in our bedroom for him to finish or hang up. He confirmed that he doesn’t have paintings of exes. We moved on.

A week ago, I was thumbing through the paintings sitting against the wall in our bedroom to see if I could surprise my boyfriend by hanging some up. One painting I recognized as being a woman he’d had a situationship with on and off for a couple years. He signed and dated it; the date was 3 months before we met and began dating.

I felt upset that 1) there was a painting of a former lover in our bedroom when 2) I was specifically told no painting of that sort existed in the entire apartment and 3) this situationship had apparently been closer to our relationship then he’d told me (ending 1 year before we met rather than 3 months).

I tried to be calm about the situationship but ended up getting rather angry at my boyfriend, telling him he’d lied to me and that he needed to trash the painting immediately. He claimed he misunderstood my question about paintings of exes and didn’t mean to lie, and that he would throw the painting away if I wanted him to. I told him I wanted HIM to want to throw the painting away; if this woman is in his past, why is he keeping it anyway? He said he never thought about it much but would prefer to keep it since it’s something he spent a lot of time on, but again would trash it if I asked.

I told him I would think about it, but honestly I’m upset he doesn’t want to throw it away on his own. I’m also still very angry that I was sleeping next to this painting for months unknowingly, despite asking questions to ensure that wouldn’t happen.

AIO by wanting him to want to throw it away?

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO that I got angry at my family for asking for their loan back sooner than agreed?

I live with my husband (fake name Sam) and our 2yo kid.

We bought a house a short walk from my mom. The house cost more than expected so I asked Mom for a $75k loan. I said I would repay her generously in 3 years when my career progresses in Medicine. She was excited we would live nearby and agreed. We still had lots of savings after closing but wanted a buffer.

Mom and I were very close. She supported me through my life/studies, and knew I would be well-off in a few years, so we didnt make a written agreement.

6 months in, Sam wanted to build a Sauna. Mom said it was unnecessary and extra money should go toward repaying loans first. I felt this was inappropriate: she had agreed to a 3-year loan and should not dictate our spending. Mom still had a job and savings and did not need more money now. I said we would repay her if she actually needed.

We argued. Sam and I told Mom that getting her loan early for such unnecessary reason will ruin our relationship with her and will affect how much we support her in her retirement, if needed. She agreed to leave loan as it was.

After 1 month, my brother asked what interest we would pay Mom when repaying. We never discussed interest although we knew Mom was getting 4% when she lent us. If we knew Mom wanted interest, we would have rather borrowed more from the bank.

Mom and I are not financially-savvy and dont know how interest works. But my brother knows finance and Sam is a stock trader. Brother says there is inflation and paying interest on a big long-term loan is normal. Sam got angry and said family shouldnt charge interest, and Brother just wants extra money. Also that our religion prohibits interest on friendly loans because its abuse. He believes my brother is jealous, likes creating family conflict, and should stay out of this topic completely.

6 months later, Sam randomly raised Mom's old comments about Sauna. We asked her to apologize and promise not to comment on our spendings again, or we rather return the loan. Mom was ready to apologize but Brother said its ridiculous and convinced her to take the loan back. I warned her that it would ruin our relationship with her and reminded her that I planned to give her gifts and vacations later if she supported me now.

Brother said that since I was shocked by the interest payment question, he wants a written agreement this time. But we dont want to be contractually required to give gifts. Sam said honest people can agree verbally and no need for paper contract.

We decided to pay back the $75k but I feel betrayed by my family.

-Sam says since my family rudely cut support early and broke promise (unlike his family), we should treat them accordingly. And Mom should've been more appreciative we live near her.

-Sam's parents are richer and loaned more without interest and Sam contributed more of his own savings, so I feel my contribution was already small.

-Brother says we still held a big interest-free loan for 13 month and should be grateful.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO for feeling hurt after my sister put me on the spot?

A while back I found out my dad buys fake designer clothes online while genuinely thinking they're authentic. I'd tried telling him before, he always denies it, so I stopped pushing and just let him enjoy his stuff.

I told my sister this in confidence, since I trusted her.

Today my dad came home with new AirPods. Out of nowhere, my sister asked him if they were authentic, then told him straight up that I'd said he buys fake stuff thinking it's real. He denied it, like always. Then she looked at me — sitting right there on the couch — and asked "isn't it true?"

I froze and stayed quiet. I didn't want to be the one confirming it to his face, and I was honestly annoyed she brought it up like that at all.

Now I feel hurt and less inclined to trust her with anything private going forward. And genuinly mad at her.

AIO for feeling this way / not wanting to confide in her anymore?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO? He hasn’t said I love you back

My and my boyfriend are going on 7 months since we’ve met. We had a bit of a rough patch one week and I had sent him an emotional text message in which I said something around the lines of “I love you and want to make this work”. It’s been maybe a month since that and he never said it back and hasn’t told me he loves me. I feel like someone should know if they love you or not by 7 months in. Would I be overreacting if I end things because he hasn’t expressed that he loves me verbally after a certain amount of time?

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO for wanting distance from my MIL/update on my previous post

you may not have read that other post so here’s context: we’re 30F and 30M. Married for 2 months. Moved into a new home, next block from in laws. MIL used called me 100 times a day and show up unannounced upto 3 times a day for the first month. Until my husband and I spoke up and asked not to come over unless we invite them and also I told her to call HER SON if there was anything important.

Now she still calls once a day, I avoid it. She wants to see him everyday and I’ve just asked him to go see her on his own if he wants to. He goes like 2 times a week. She is obsessed with what her son is upto and her main concern is if he has had anything to eat. We’re adults, and we both enjoy cooking. She sends over food once a day for breakfast lunch dinner. And she wants access and info each day.

So any contact atp is between mother and son only. I’ve made sure I’m out of that routine because I’m not alive to please you.

UPDATE: I had a conversation w hubby last night.

He told me that his mom has been crying every time he visits. Telling him things like you’re distancing yourself and also to visit more often and on sundays she wants a family day like she wants me to go w them to church and then to their house and meet all the other families. Which I can’t do. I have a life.

So my question to him was, what does she want!? Does she not realise her behaviour is affecting our marriage? Is what we’re already doing not enough? Was it not enough for him to visit her so often and eat at her place anytime he gets a chance?

His response: her mindset is such that she expected us to be closer. I did not see this coming and I don’t know what to do. I need time and hopefully they respect our boundaries in time. I just wanted to marry you and start our own family. Let’s go on a vacation so we can take a break from all of this mess.

I have this feeling that o can’t shake, I feel like this marriage is going to be so messed up because of her and I am not ready for this. I told him we should think about divorce because the two of us aren’t going to be happy if this continues.

And also we were planning to get pregnant since the day we got married.. and yesterday I told him I don’t want to continue with that anymore and he went “no yeah I get it, I don’t think this is an ideal environment for pregnancy and childbirth” now I’m sad he agrees with me.. one of the main reasons I got married is to have a baby. I feel like I’ll have to push it until eventually everything is sorted. But I’m 30. My dreams are shattered. My marriage feels like an inescapable nightmare. AIO???? I haven’t slept in 52 hours. I’m losing my mind!

👥 friendship Am I overreacting for pretending I didn’t recognize someone?

F19, living in LA.
This happened yesterday and I honestly can’t decide if I handled it badly.
I was at a coffee shop and this girl at the table next to me kept looking at me. Not in a creepy way exactly, but enough that I noticed.
Eventually she came over and asked, “Are you the girl from TikTok?”
I said no.
She looked at me for a few seconds and said, “Oh… sorry.”
Then she went back to her table.
The weird part is that I actually am the girl she was talking about.
I have a pretty small account, nothing crazy, but one of my videos randomly blew up a few weeks ago. Since then, strangers have occasionally recognized me.
I didn’t want to talk to her because something about the way she was staring at me made me uncomfortable.
A few minutes later, I heard her telling her friend:
“I swear that’s her. She’s pretending she’s not.”
And her friend said:
“Then why would she lie?”
And I honestly started feeling guilty 😭
Like… I wasn’t pretending to be someone else. I just didn’t feel like confirming my identity to a stranger.
But now I’m wondering if that was unnecessarily rude.
Would you consider this overreacting on my part, or is it completely normal to deny being someone when a stranger recognizes you?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO feeling frustrated that my fiancée got a job?

My fiancée (25F) and I (26M), together 3 and a half years, moved in together in december, both of us left our parents' homes and are making our life together. It's been really great, of course we had to adapt to some aspects of our routines, but we already tend to focus on managing the relationship as we both grow.
The thing is, I'm very organized, tend to keep things clean and track my spending habits. I only accepted moving in because I could afford both rent and bills on my own, if this ever went south and because she works freelance.

Since february my fiancée has been set on calling this one guy who loved working with her and would be eager to try and fit her in any project. Since february I am paying for everything, absolutely everything, no complaint — and I mean it, it was worrying me but I always managed to save some money at the end of the month.

Anyway, she has only called the guy today, six months later, after almost spiraling from being out of a job (she got a couple small jobs along the way). She was a wreck for weeks, both me and her mother were worried, and we insisted she give the guy a call — it had to be a phone call, dude is old af and really bad with smartphones, he has told her so before.

When she finally took the time to call, of course the guy was really happy and super willing to get her into his current project. He said he'd send over the job and pay info, yada yada, she basically got a job. After a five minute call, just like that.

Just like I'd been telling her for MONTHS. I literally said one time, almost verbatim, "if you call him now, you'll be working next week". It took her reaching a really low and scary point, plus me, plus her mom showing her our worry.

I know I did resent her at times and I had a deep talk with my therapist and then with her. I won't go into details but she started trying to help out. She really did and I saw that, but she just didn't have any money. I also know she is stressing much more than me, and I try to do everything I can to help her, as she does for me when I need it.

It just stressed me out real bad that she COULD have been helping, significantly, all these months, had she taken a phone call!!! I'm aware it can be really tough for some people, and I understand why it took her so long. I am angered at the situation as a whole, maybe frustrated is a better word.

Of course I congratulated her both on getting a job and on making the call, I know how hard it was. But especially because I know that, I don't think bringing this up will be positive. She's already guilty for not being able to pay her part, it would feel awful.

I just wanted to know if I'm doing okay navigating this and is there anything else that would help.

AIO feeling so frustrated?

PSA we're both in therapy and medicated.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO about too many guests?

I (17nb) have AuDHD and OCD. We got 2 staying-over guests since 18th of August to today. The 2. of them was particularly exhausting. They all stayed over for around 3 days each. I was exhausted and burned out. And today, more guests come over to stay. I can't relax in my own house. I feel like I'm about to go insane. I can't ignore them either, because relatives and in my country that's unacceptable. I just don't want to see anyone other than my immediate family for a while. And I don't even spend a lot of time with them either, because I get overwhelmed easily. Am I overreacting?

Also I'd like to add thay my parents, despite saying they're tired too, still accept more guests and ignore me because "it's their house"

🎲 miscellaneous AIO - Does anyone else get super worried that they’re not traveling enough?

I’m 31 and lately I’ve had this weird feeling that I’m somehow falling behind because I haven’t traveled as much as I thought I would by this age. Social media definitely doesn’t help. It feels like every other person is in Europe, Bali, Japan, or somewhere beautiful while I’m looking at my calendar trying to figure out when I could realistically even go somewhere 😭. I know traveling isn’t a race and everyone has different priorities, finances, jobs, relationships, etc., but I still catch myself feeling like I’m wasting time or missing out on experiences I’m supposed to be having while I’m still young. Does anyone else around my age feel this way, or did you eventually stop putting so much pressure on yourself to constantly be going somewhere?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO my best friend caught her spouse cheating with one of our friends

On accident, because there are cameras set up in the house and apparently they didn't disable them when they were together. She happened to log into the app and saw more than she bargained for. For a little context, her spouse has been hanging out with this friend as a retaliatory thing because of her and my friendship. Her spouse swore they were only hanging out and nothing ever happened.
She doesn't know how she wants to handle it. It clearly hurt her and is a super shitty situation. I, on the other hand, want to burn it all down. It could have farther reaching consequences for her spouse if she reports it (military) but the friend would have no repercussions. I have half a mind to hold a tea time and just pass out fliers of them on the cameras. I need to know if I should chill or if I'm over reacting because I'm about to hype her up and I am trying to decide if I actually need to sept back from the ledge.
ETA: I'm not really passing our flyers guys 😂 I do understand people are serious when they say that but I'm just tryin decide how much I hype her up because I think her spouse is a pos.

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO about this girl I recently met up with?

Names, location etc would be changed I suppose to protect identities.

Me 28M. Her 34F. Met her on a dating app. She was amazing. Actively engaging in ideas and was a vibe from the start. A very nature girl. After about a week or two of this. We decided to meet. She lives almost 3 hours from me on a Ranch.

Finally got there. She comes out. Greets me. Everything is cool at this point. She looked better than in her pics. So Im sitting here thinking i done won the game.

She made us dinner. Which again was amazing!
But this is where things started taking a weird turn.
After dinner I went to take a piss.
The toilet was messy. Like lingering poop bits etc. it definitely took me off for a second. As she knew I was coming with a 3 hour head start. Anyways. Didnt make a deal. Did my thing. Flushed and carried on.

A moment went by. We are now drinking and dancing So very up close and personal. I started working my magic. But then when we started making out. I got a weird scent. Wasn’t a rotten smell just really bitter which again kept throwing me off. But hey humans. We all had a moment like this. So again. I carried on.

Now we are about to lay with each other. She gave me a tour of her home. Which is pretty big mind you. We finally got to her room. She sits down. this is a key point to why I guess I didn’t notice. “Use your imagination as to what follows”. After missionary, I asked her to bend over. For lack of better words. Maybe 2 minutes into it. I look down to get a good look. She had poop stains down in the crack and a mark of it on her cheeks. And I made sure I got a good look. I mean as a man back there. That’s all you see..“Same Color as the one I saw earlier in the toilet”. I instantly got turned off. I couldn’t just carry on from that one. Told her about it. She ran off. Came back. And was like. There’s nothing there?
But unless my eyes were lying for like 8minutes straight. I know what I saw. So I instantly left. Had major regrets too about eating! As I don’t know how hygienic her standards are then for cooking…
She’s been reaching out. Even apologized for the embarrassing first meet. But I don’t think I want to continue with her now. Never experienced anything like that before.. Mental image completely ruined. So am I overreacting or what

👥 friendship Am I overreacting? My girlfriend's friends want her to dump me and I am pretty uncomfortable with her wanting to keep them around

I will give minimal details to keep things anonymous. So,yesterday, during an hang out with my gf,she told me that a mutual friend of ours, alongside her other friends. Want her to dump me so she can date a girl lgbt and start a polygamous relationship. I'm a bit hurt, I thought I had a good relationship with that mutual friend, but apparently. Since she learned that my gf and I dated, her alongside other friends of my girlfriend want her to dump me. That's hurtful, and I don't know how to deal with this.

This is my first relationship, and I don't want to mess it up. I am super uncomfortable with telling my gf to cut off her friend because, to me,it would be super controlling. But on the other hand,I really feel uncomfortable with them whispering in her ear. Idk what to do,I'm lost rn.

For now,I told her to relax because I don't want to stress her out. She can harm herself when she's under stress, and I really don't want that, she's an overthinker, like me. She told me that she doesn't care about what her friends are telling her,but I'm scared that over time, if they keep pushing, she will eventually give in. But she insists that it won't happen. Idk,aio ? I would like advice as to our to proceed, do I ignore it,let them talk ? Do i talk to my gf ? She doesn't seem to understand why it is bothering me. I am sorry if I'm rambling or being confusing. I am a bit hurt and sad rn. What should we do ?
