Guy on dating app I’ve been talking to for a bit but haven’t gone out with yet. I think the screenshots are self-explanatory, but not even a casual “oh, sorry to hear that”?? Oh they want me to write more to get up to a specified word limit. Well, I think he sucks, how about that.

UPDATE: I wrote “I’m sorry, we’re not compatible. Take care and good luck” he wrote “that is strange”

🎲 miscellaneous AIO? I booked a nail tech and can’t get my deposit back

Edit: Ya girl got a refund. The nail tech still fought me on it though.

I (29f) booked with a nail tech and immediately sent my deposit as that is something she requires to hold your spot. During booking I put the nail designs I wanted and went on with my day.

She just told me I cannot get that nail design done as she doesn’t want to do a design with ants and teeth on them so I would have to pick something else. (Pic included) I told her I didn’t want something else so I would like the deposit back to go to someone else. She says that deposits are non-refundable.

While I understand that, there’s nothing on her page stating she won’t do certain designs, and I would understand not getting my money back if I had brought up an issue. Yet she says she won’t do the design I want. Am I the asshole overreacting for feeling I should get a refund?

💼work/career AIO I recently found out I was filmed in an embarrassing situation at work without my knowledge or consent

I was approached by a female colleague (not someone I am particularly close to or spend much time with at work, but have always been civil and friendly woth) recently who confessed she has noticed I (F34) had the occasional habit of momentarily itching 'down there'. I was mortified as I had no idea (I have ADHD and am a very fidgety person), and immediately apologised if I had made her feel uncomfortable. She went on to tell me she had secretly filmed me doing it some weeks ago and it had been circulated around our business (all without me knowing) until someone went to HR to express their concerns.

It's been 4 days since I found this out, am I overreacting to still be completely devastated & mortified???

🎓 academic/school AIO? Son’s friend is abusing their tech freedom

My son is in 5th grade and has a friend who has no limits on their iPhone. In person, she’s been a bit of a bully to other kids. She threw a slushie on my son’s BFF, has made fun of people, and is called “a liar” by some kids.

At the start of 5th, we got our son an Apple Watch with a phone number so we can keep in touch during extracurriculars, etc. It’s a great way to give a kid safe access to communication without putting a phone in their pocket. His Apple ID is also connected to an iPad, and we have parental controls both at the router level and device levels.

He was excited to see that his class friends started an iMessage group chat. I approved the contacts so he could talk to them. By the next day, though, he was burnt out by how prolific they are. He didn’t like waking up to 100+ texts because his friends could keep devices all night — it wasn’t “I don’t get to keep my device like they do,” but rather, “They need to get some sleep!! They’re crazy.”

He left the group. He got added back. He left again. He was added a third time. He left again, telling them NOT to add him. He got added back.

At that point, I asked him to add me before leaving so I could see who kept adding him. I wanted to reach out to a parent.

After he added me, nobody added him back. It’s possible they realized an adult was present. Numbers started leaving.

His friend, mentioned in the beginning, sent a very inappropriate video (for 5th graders) at nearly 9:20pm that night.

I asked my friend for this girl’s parent’s phone number. I gathered exactly what I wanted to communicate and texted the next day. NO response. It’s been almost 24 hours.

I was told by both my son, his BFF, and my own friend that these parents do nothing to intervene when bullying or inappropriate behavior is brought up.

Evidently they’re right.

I’ve solved the digital problem by blocking the girl. But I’m flabbergasted that despite the VERY specific language I used (with kindness), no response. I want to respond again or get the school involved. But my husband was an educator for 15 years, and I know this isn’t a “school problem” per se — although the bullying on campus is. AIO?

❤️‍🩹 relationship Aio for dumping my talking stage after one date?

So i female (35) went out with some work colleagues on a Saturday night for drinks. While there a gentleman (40s) approached our table while i was in the washroom asking about me from the other two ladies. When i got back he came to me asking if i was single and wouldn’t mind sharing my contact with him. I am single and searching and he was cute so yeah i gave him my number and went about my evening with my colleagues.
He sent me a message on WhatsApp immediately asking me to leave my colleagues and go to a different location with him. I refused. He stayed back and paid for all our drinks and for the next 3 hours kept asking to take me to another location which was more fun and relaxing.
I finally gave in when we had decided to leave (stupid me) but i shared my live location with the girls and told him i did so. He drove me to a place near my house which turned out to be a night club. I told him i wasn’t into night clubs and wanted to go home. I stayed a few hours with him until a fight broke out and i finally had a reason to leave. He dropped me off at my condo building around 4:30 am.
The whole of sunday he kept messaging me to hang out again and i refused. Told him i was out all night and needed to recoup my energy for the week ahead.
The whole week he kept messaging me to meet up after work but i refused and insisted on meeting on a weekend and also said i didn’t want to go to a night club again but would like to go see the new spiderman movie so that could be our date. He said he would get the tickets.
Saturday came and he never told me what time to meet up until 9:30 when he asked to come pick me up. I said no because it was already late and i didn’t think he had the movie tickets anyway. He said we could go get dinner and he would bring me back home. I said okay. He said 11:45pm. I’m like thats rather late.He came at 12 midnight anyway and took me straight to a night club again! I wasn’t happy and insisted on leaving. So he took me home reluctantly.
During the week he called me on WhatsApp again and i tried calling him back on regular phone call but it wouldn’t go through. I asked why his phone is off but WhatsApp works perfectly fine and he said he doesn’t have a phone number. Like what the hell? I can only communicate with him through WhatsApp and thats it.
Mind you i do not know this guys name. He said i should call him junior but wont tell me his real name. He wont share with me where he lives and is very evasive whenever i ask which part of Ontario he lives. Red flags popping up everywhere
On Wednesday i was sick and was taken to the hospital by my friend and i messaged to tell him. He said he would come at 11:45 pm to see me. I said that’s too late so he can come the next day. Next day he messaged again to come at 11;45pm to see me and i got furious.
This was the third time he said 11:45 to me whenever we were supposed to meet. He never has any other time aside 11:45pm.
So i told him off and blocked him on WhatsApp. He used a different WhatsApp number to message me. He can’t even call me on regular calls. I do not get it. I blocked that one too.
I think he is married or living with another woman. Or hiding from the cops cos who doesn’t have a phone number in 2026?
Did i overreact?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO about my boyfriend's response to something so small?

My boyfriend and I live together. We have an en suite bathroom connected to our bedroom which is the bathroom he uses. He showers in the evening and leaves the extractor fan switched on all the time.

Last night I switched it off before going to bed because the noise bothers me while I'm trying to get to sleep. The fan had been on for a few hours after he showered and the window was open so there was no steam or condensation trapped in there.

I told him I'd turned it off so to just make sure he switched it back on before he showered. He went off on me saying how I didn't even ask him if that was okay. I made a unilateral decision for the both of us and it will inconvenience him to have to turn it on again. I said that switching it on before he gets a shower isn't an inconvenience, to which he replied that maybe it isn't one time but if he has to do it 10000 times that's days of his life gone.

I really didn't take that well and kind of went off on him. I told him he's being inconsiderate, he's creating a huge issue out of nothing, and he's acting like a child. I feel kind of bad saying those things but I genuinely feel like the response was warranted. Am I overreacting here??

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws 22M AIO I want this kid to stop stealing my money

Disclaimer: Kid is 5 y/o, so overall this is not that serious. It's more the family's reaction that's the problem.

Staying with family at the moment, and they have 3 kids. The youngest keeps coming into the room I'm staying in, going through my stuff, making a mess, and taking money when he sees it. He never takes all of it, usually just a pound coin or a few pennies. I don't have loads lying around anyway as I usually pay for things by card. I explained to him that stealing is wrong and asked him to stop taking my money. Didn't really make a difference. On one of the occasions I caught him, both of his older sisters were around. I was told that if I don't keep money locked away securely, it's my own fault if he takes it. Apparently he's allowed to take coins he finds in the house regardless of whose it is because it "helps him learn about saving money". This absolutely baffled me to be honest. Especially since his family isn't exactly swimming in cash. Sure, I understand wanting to educate him, but surely at his age learning moral boundaries like not stealing is more important...? I pointed out to them that when I was his age, I knew that taking other people's stuff was wrong, and I was laughed at and told that my parents were too strict. I have it put away more securely for the time being because I realise that I can't change the way he's being raised. But am I crazy for thinking that it's a weird approach? Or do I have unreasonable standards for teaching kids boundaries?

🏘️ neighbor/local AIO for getting so upset over my neighbor stealing my husband’s nerdy sculpture?

My (30F) husband (40M) spent weeks sculpting a custom piece of art as a wedding gift for our friends. We live in Illinois and are flying to Maine to celebrate their marriage in a couple of days. We couldn’t be happier for them, and he wanted to make something special to show how much we value their friendship. He knew they were big nerds (in the best way), so he used Blender to sculpt these characters with their tongues intertwining to form a heart.

Once he finished 3D printing them, he spray-painted them in a metallic color. He planned to add a little oval wooden plaque underneath, wood-burned with their names and wedding date.

He spray-painted them outside in the alley and set them to dry in the stairwell outside our back door. They were placed on top of a trash bin inside a cardboard box clearly labeled “NOT TRASH” in Sharpie. We live in a condo building with a shared stairwell. The only people who ever walk past our back door are our direct neighbors and the two units above us.

My husband came home after a 12-hour shift to grab the dried sculpture and finish the plaque. The box, spray paint, and gloves were still there, but the sculpture was gone.

Seeing how crushed, and honestly pissed, he was, I went upstairs to knock on our neighbors' door. I initially thought someone had harmlessly mistaken it for garbage. I just wanted to explain the situation kindly and maybe even offer another printed one as a kind gesture.

When my neighbor answered, they said they saw the box and would check with their partner. A moment later, their partner came out and said something that completely caught me off guard. They said they were taking out their dog and the sculpture had "startled" them, so they "moved it to the front."

Their body language was odd and noticeably timid. My initial impulse was to apologize for the sculpture startling them and thank them for telling me where it went. It genuinely was a pleasant exchange with zero hostility. But as I walked away, it just wasn’t making sense. They couldn’t have seen what was in the box unless they went out of their way to look inside? Especially since the box (not small) was sitting on top of a 3.5 foot trash can.

That being said, I was still hoping that it was just miscommunication, I searched around the apartment complex indoors and outdoors and found nothing.

My husband and I went back up to ask for some clarification on where "the front" meant. To be honest, he felt like something sketchy was going on right away, but again, I was still hoping. Fewer than five minutes had passed since my first conversation. We knocked multiple times, but nobody answered.

Now I’m feeling deeply conflicted. I’m obviously not calling the police, but I can’t help dream about a perfect revenge that follows any good revenge’s four pillars (imo): inconvenient, harmless, untraceable, and entertaining.

Am I overreacting for feeling this suspicious, and, if not, how do I not let them get away with this while also not overreacting. Please help!

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO my best friend caught her spouse cheating with one of our friends

On accident, because there are cameras set up in the house and apparently they didn't disable them when they were together. She happened to log into the app and saw more than she bargained for. For a little context, her spouse has been hanging out with this friend as a retaliatory thing because of her and my friendship. Her spouse swore they were only hanging out and nothing ever happened.
She doesn't know how she wants to handle it. It clearly hurt her and is a super shitty situation. I, on the other hand, want to burn it all down. It could have farther reaching consequences for her spouse if she reports it (military) but the friend would have no repercussions. I have half a mind to hold a tea time and just pass out fliers of them on the cameras. I need to know if I should chill or if I'm over reacting because I'm about to hype her up and I am trying to decide if I actually need to sept back from the ledge.
ETA: I'm not really passing our flyers guys 😂 I do understand people are serious when they say that but I'm just tryin decide how much I hype her up because I think her spouse is a pos.

⚕️ health AIO My Therapist Called Me Lazy

So I see my therapist once a month, and for the last couple of sessions she's been asking me about hobbies worded as healthy coping mechanisms. Completely understandable. I've been struggling a lot w my mental health this year, so when she asks about hobbies my response usually is that I cant find the motivation. In today's session, she tells me she thinks I'm a bit lazy wording it as this profound thing. Mind you, I mention on multiple occasions that all I have the energy for most days is work and even getting out of bed in the mornings is this great hill I struggle up.

I understand it comes from a place of wanting to help, but its been sitting wrong w me since she said it. Am I overreacting?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO I started a business and now my gf wants half ownership

For context my business is in the entertainment rental industry, I don’t want to be too specific for privacy.

I started this business just to bring in some extra income for savings and investments. I went through the process of researching the industry and how the equipment works, buying the startup equipment (medium-high on the scale), creating the business name and branding etc and everything else that goes into the startup of a business.

My first booking happened to be my gf’s boss when she noticed the equipment in the background of the room during an online meeting, for which I am eternally grateful for as it got me over a few big hurdles like getting the first booking, getting content for promotion and chipping away at repaying that start up cost. At the event itself she came with me to help which I definitely needed considering it was still new to me.

The problem for me kind of started when she began claiming that it was our business when, up until this point, I had done all the work and put myself entirely at risk. It just felt like she was only interested when it all came to life and she saw what it could bring to the table. She sort of backed it up by saying that she got the first booking, has helped by giving her opinions during the creative process and got some of her friends to follow and support the page (which I feel as though comes with being in a relationship but that’s whatever).

Don’t get me wrong I was totally in the mindset of asking for her help with things and then paying her fair share I’m not greedy and I definitely need her, she’s great with people and would make transportation so much easier with an extra pair of hands. It just felt really weird the way she went about it without talking to me first and felt like I had lost half of everything I had worked so hard for.

I was just hoping to get some advice on how I could approach this and how I could fairly incorporate her in the business?

Edit - I’ve seen a lot of people go down the legal thought path with this. For context the company is registered in my name with me as the owner and that isn’t going to change. She also hasn’t categorically spoken about money or legal ownership but I’m assuming that is her interest in it.

Thank you so much for all the advice, I believe I know how I want to approach this situation now and might come back to update if anybody cares.

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO boyfriend is never there for me when I really need him?

I (25F) struggle with severe PTSD after serving in the military for 5 years. I was sexually abused by a senior officer and I won’t go into all the details, but essentially he would put different objects inside me. One of the most common would be the butt of his knife and he would often threaten to cut me with it. I also ended up pregnant at 19 with his baby and had a miscarriage.
Sometimes (very rarely) have extreme PTSD episodes where I see things that aren’t real, mostly people from my past and children, and I often can’t breathe and my whole body starts to shake uncontrollably.

My boyfriend knows all of this, and when it’s been really bad (it’s only happened 3 times in our one year relationship), I would call him and ask him if he could stay on the phone with me or come see me.

Every single time I’ve asked, he’s said no. Once because he was at a friends place and was going fishing the following morning, the second time he had work the following day and said 8pm was too late for him to come see me (he wakes up early for work), and the third he was with friends at a pub and said he couldn’t come because he hadn’t seen these friends in over a year.

This has made me really reevaluate our relationship. There have been other times where I have had milder symptoms around him and he hasn’t been comforting at all. Like once we went on a camping trip and I asked him to pull over for 5 mins for me to calm down, and he said no. He didn’t even give me a hug when I asked him for one later that night.

We had an argument the other night and I said that I needed someone who could respect me and be there for me. He says that I can’t rely on him when things go bad for me and that I need other coping mechanisms other than him.
The funny thing is, I have many. I have my family, my service dog, my psychologist and psychiatrist I see weekly and my friends/hobbies. But I don’t think it’s wrong to expect my partner to show up for me and want to be there for me too.

He shows up for his friends when they are going through a hard time, but I feel like I have to beg for the same treatment.

Idk if I’m overreacting about this or not. He says I am, and claims he will be there for me 99% of the time but that the 1% he can’t be, I need to be ok with that.
But honestly I feel like he’s been there for me 0% of the time so far. I don’t know what to do, and I don’t know if this means we aren’t compatible. AIO about this?

👥 friendship AIO for storming out of a club meeting because I didn’t like the questions I was asked?

Me (19F) have always been on the nerdy side and I’m always open about my interests in that with my friends. So there’s a DnD club at my college that one of my friends has been begging me to come to and just “see if I want to get in on it”. I only ever played the online versions of DnD like Neverwinter and whatnot so I was curious what the actual game would be like so yesterday I came by their club room to see what it was all about.

As soon as I got in there I immediately realized that I was the only woman in the room, my friend I came with immediately introduced me to everybody as “that girl I was telling you about”. I see the guy sitting at the head of the table practically LEAP from his chair to come and shake my hand. The three other dudes in the room all waved and it was chill from then on. I told them I’d just be sitting in to watch a session to decide whether or not I’d like to join them on their next campaign. However, not even ten minutes into them playing the DM turns to me and asks me how I’ve found everything so far. I told him I was familiar with the mechanics of the game because of my experiences with the online versions and whatnot. He asks me about them and we talk about it some more before another one of the players at the table chimes in and is like “can we play please” and the DM just ignores him. He keeps asking me questions but they completely shift from questions about DnD and my experiences to personal questions about my major and future job interests. Then he gets to the question I was hoping he wouldn’t ask and that was “are you seeing anyone” and I am, I’ve had a partner for a while now and so I tell him that and he looks confused. He goes “partner? is that like a girlfriend or a boyfriend?” I asked him why that matters and he says “I just wanna know if it actually counts or not,” to which I told him that’s none of his business and left. My friend then spam texted me all the next day saying I embarrassed him by “being all sensitive” and that the DM was just “trying to get to know me” and I told him that I was incredibly uncomfortable being talked to like that but thinking back on it maybe he was just trying to get to know me. Did I overreact?

👥 friendship My friend just got engaged, but I found a Reddit post from his fiancée trashing the ring and insulting him. Do I tell him or AIO?

Upvotes

For context, most of us have had concerns about his fiancée for a while. We don’t feel like she has his best interests at heart, and the relationship has seemed unhealthy from the outside. Our friend also seems like he’s been struggling mentally, and some of us feel like she has become very controlling, including around things like what he eats and other day-to-day choices, even though she frames it as being “for his health.”

A few days ago, he proposed and gave her a really beautiful, very distinctive engagement ring. She publicly posted excited engagement content on social media, so everything looked great on the surface.

Then by random chance our friend came across a post on Reddit in an engagement ring community. They recognized the ring immediately because it’s extremely unique, and there were other identifying details that matched as well. She does very unique hyper detailed nail art. We couldn’t believe she would post the picture with her nails in the photo at all given how unique they are.

In the post, she was criticizing the ring pretty harshly and saying some really disrespectful things about her fiancé. She was mocking his taste, calling him incompetent, and making comments that made it sound like her issue might not actually be the ring at all, but the relationship itself. A lot of the replies were basically saying the same thing — that her reaction sounded deeper than just disappointment over jewelry, and more like resentment toward the person she’s marrying.

Now we feel stuck.

On one hand, if one of us were about to marry someone who was speaking about us that way anonymously online, we’d want to know. On the other hand, we also worry about interfering in something that may not be our place, especially since bringing it up could seriously damage the friendship or create a huge blow-up.

So the dilemma is: do we tell our friend what we found, or would that be overreacting? do we stay out of it and let him figure it out on his own?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO because I don't forgive my partner for humiliating me

I need an outside opinion, because this is the first time this has happened to me in my life and i don't know how react for this. I am a F(40 yo), my partner a M(40 yo). We met 3 years ago and living together for 2.5 years. We have 7 months old baby, and i also have a child from my first marriage (10 yo), he loves him and raises him as his own son. Our characters are similar - he explodes easily, but quickly calms down, I am also impulsive, but if there is a quarrel, I need more time to cool down. Despite our two hot-tempered characters, we have a fairly peaceful relationship, after quarrels we discuss everything, apologize if necessary, seek a compromise, because we understand our shortcomings. Every day we have a lot of laughter, jokes, dances, games... And over these years we have had only 2 big scandals, and what I will describe below is the third. English is not my native language, I have been living in this country for 4.5 years, and I came as a refugee because there is a war in my country. I will note right away that finding a relationship and staying in this country was not my goal, because I have everything I need for a good life in my country, it is just extremely dangerous there, and here I really fell in love and in fact he and now our child are all that keep me here.

So, he often makes me notice that I look at my phone when we have time together. I don't think so, because if I need to do something on my phone, I do it (reply to a message, look up a product, make notes, add to calendar something, translate a word I don't know) because later I will simply forget to do it. It doesn't look like 1 hour together, I spend 40 minutes on my phone, more like a quick glance, reply to a message, maybe longer if I have to choose what to buy. Because with two children, everything flies out of my head very quickly. In addition, I try to stay in touch with friends who stayed in my home country. And my morning ritual is coffee, news and if there was shelling, then a messages to my friends whether everyone is alive. He is also constantly on his phone, playing mini-gsmes, although not when he is next to me.

Two days ago we were going to visit friends. I was cleaning the kitchen, while chatting on messenger with friends we were going to about plans, food, bbq, etc. When it was time to feed the baby, we had a conversation:

Me - can you feed the baby because I haven't finished cleaning the kitchen yet.

He - you didn't clean the kitchen because you were staring at your phone too much?

Me - don't make such remarks to me, because I will remind you about staring at your phone.

He - what are you talking about?

Me - yesterday when you were putting the baby to bed, she fell out of bed while you were playing games on your phone. So which one of us is staring at the phone? In 7 months she fell out of bed 3 times, and all of those times were with you.

Then he just exploded and started screaming at me like crazy: "Fu..k you, fu..k, you fu..ing cu..t, fu...ing tw..t, fu..k you...Why did you say that, you know I'm blaming myself for the fact that she fell. My little girl fell, I'll never forgive myself for this....When she fell, you took her from me and didn't give her back, as if she needed to be protected from me...You said that specifically to hurt me..." and so on. He broke down and screamed this while sitting in front of the child, he scared her and she started crying. Then he came up to me and screamed this in my face, until saliva was flying, he hit the wall, his eyes were bloodshot, he seemed possessed.

I note I don't blame him her fell. First time was after the birth, we both were exhausted and she was sleeping on his chest and rolled over. The second time was about 10 days ago when he didn't put the blanket around the bed to make a nest and went to talk on the phone and the third time was two days ago. Every time she fell on the carpet and apparently nothing happened to her, her behavior did not change, she ate and slept as usual. I understand that this can happen to anyone, and it happens a lot with children. I wasn't going to judge or blame him, but it looked hypocritical he was making a remark to me, but it was his staring at his phone that made her fall out of bed.

About 10 minutes later he came over and tried to apologize. But an apology in the style of "forgive me, but you..." and then shifting the responsibility for what happened to me. I don't consider that an apology. AIO? I was shocked by his reaction, no one has ever treated me like this in my life. Can a person insult and humiliate their loved one with the most disgusting words? Did I really say such a terrible thing to him and his reaction was appropriate? I'm overreacting that i don't want to accept his apologies?

❤️‍🩹 relationship Am I overreacting for wanting to break no contact to tell my ex I got an STD?

My ex cheated on me, and I recently found out there’s a possibility the cheating was going on before the last time I was intimate with him. It’s been about a month and I haven’t noticed anything but I’m still scared and I only found out about the cheating 4 days ago when I broke up with him for it Because of that, I’m getting tested for STDs.
Obviously, I don’t know the results yet, but I’ve been thinking about what I would do if something came back positive. I feel like the responsible thing to do would be to tell him so he can get tested and avoid potentially giving it to someone else. However, we’re currently no contact, and people have told me that it’s not my place anymore and that I should just keep no contact and move on.
I understand wanting to protect my peace, but if he potentially gave me something because he cheated, I feel like staying silent would be irresponsible.
Am I overreacting for wanting to tell him?

Update: I got tested and won’t know for a few days but I decided if something comes back I’m going to ask the clinic or use one of the websites someone suggested to tell him. Because I shouldn’t have had to do that and the fact makes me even more sick and disgusted with myself. So I blocked him and everyone I had that’s friends/coworkers/etc on social media and contact because I need to focus on my mental health and while I normally find blocking childish I did it for my mental health

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO for not speaking to my sister because she wanted to have the same medical problem as me?

I don't want to share our specific ages, but she is an adult who is older than me. We are both female.

For the last few years, my sister has been struggling with her gender identity. She sometimes identifies as a trans man, which i have no problem with, but sometimes she doesn't. For the sake of this, I will refer to her as she/her and a woman, as I do not know what she identifies as and it makes more sense this way. She identified as a woman when I last spoke to her.

A few months ago, I started to notice that I was growing a bit of facial hair. I mentioned this to our mum, I had loads of doctors appointments, and then I was diagnosed with PCOS. One of my other symptoms is irregular periods.

When my sister found out about my diagnosis, she was mad at me. She said that I want to always be a woman and it's not fair that I have the ability to grow facial hair and that I sometimes don't get periods. She said that I should be lucky to have PCOS, as many trans people (ftm) wish they had it. Me and her got into an argument about it and we haven't spoken since.

Recently, I've been thinking about it and I can see both sides. Part of me can understand why she feels that way. I understand that gender dysphoria can be mentally painful and draining and to see someone have something that you want, can be annoying.

However I do still feel mad and I understand my side. She knows that I want kids and I've always wanted kids, and now I may not be able to. There's a lot of other things that she can do to feel more like a man. There's hormones she can take and surgeries that she can have. PCOS will affect my life in so many more ways than just growing a beard and having irregular periods, and I don't feel like she understands that. She very much thinks that her thinking is always right and always has done.

I think she was in the wrong, but I don't know if i'm overreacting.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws AIO For Cutting Off My Alcoholic Brother

Hello,

I’ve been dealing long-term with a brother who tends towards alcohol abuse and cannot hold down a job. My parents constantly support him and bail him out and at this point I feel like they enable him. He’s in his late 30s now, but it’s been going on for almost all of his adult life. I’m finally removing myself from the situation and am wondering if I’m over reacting. My parents feel I am.

Early 2025 or so he got a job and moved out of my parent’s place on his own. Previously he’d either been supported at a place by my parents or living with me. Working regularly was rare for him. I was hoping he’d finally gotten his life together! Said he was off the booze too.

Around 6 months ago he cut off contact with all family and mutual friends. Wouldn’t respond to calls or texts. He also deleted me on all social and video game apps and left every group chat. Even chats from years ago! It felt like he was purposefully trying to slight me and my parents. No idea why. I was seeing my parents every weekend as I felt really bad for them. They had no idea why either.

In the last two months or so we found out he no-showed at work. His coworkers were so worried they called the cops to check on him and called my parents as they were his emergency contact.

Then, at the beginning of August (when rent is due mind you) he finally reached out to my parents asking for rent money. He admitted he was drinking again and just didn’t want to go to work.

My parents paid his rent and said he’s probably going to move back in with them. This has been happening like this for decades now; my brother gets a job and seems to be doing well, but then quits/gets fired after he starts drinking again (I honestly wonder if he ever really stops) and is ashamed so cuts off contact until he reaches the breaking point then wants to reconnect and ask for help and my parents acquiesce. He’s had a DUI previously and an alcohol ignition interlock device for years now from that. It keeps getting extended because he keeps blowing positive for alcohol!

My parents want me to reconcile with him like they are doing. My parents are pushing this on me and my brother hasn’t really reached out at all to me. I told them I’m done with this and they’re enabling him. It’s their money and house and I’ll keep in touch with them, but I’m not interacting with my brother until he quits the alcohol and gets a job and moves out and stays this way. Is this too hard of a stance?

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO for thinking my ex was projecting after spending our whole relationship trying to catch me lying?

This is long, sorry in advance…I’m 33F hes 35M. We were together about 6 months and I recently ended it and blocked him.

Basically this man did not trust me from the beginning. If I didn’t answer fast enough it was questions. Something moved in my house, who was here? Car seat moved, who sat there? Male coworkers were an issue.

One night he came to my house around midnight because I didnt answer his calls. I woke up to him standing in my bedroom doorway staring at me because he wanted to see if my phone would ring. Scared the hell out of me.

Recently he went through my phone while I was asleep and I also caught him on camera going through drawers in my house like he was looking for something.

I constantly felt like I was being investigated.

Now here comes “Kayla.”

He told me Kayla was somebody from his past, they were last together around Dec/Jan and she was blocked.

In May I found multiple voicemails from her. One she calls him babe, says she really likes him, tells him hes fine, mentions “that thing you do that I like” and tells him to call her.

But I ended up talking to her.

She knew what his NEW apartment looked like, said she had dropped him off at his relatives house and knew his mom was coming into town around that same weekend in May.

She also said she was out of state for a family funeral around Dec/Jan which made his timeline even more confusing.

Could she be lying? Absolutely. She was bragging and throwing stuff in my face at times. But how does she know current information if they havent talked in months???

Those May voicemails also happened around a weekend we argued, I told him to go home and he went out to a club.

Fast forward to our breakup.

He went WAY back through my texts and found somebody I talked to BEFORE I ever knew him.

I did not cheat or deal with this person during our relationship.

I will own my part though. Early on my ex questioned me about my sexual/dating history and I didn’t tell him everything. I felt like what happened before him was my business. I shouldve just said I wasnt discussing it instead of answering and leaving things out.

Now hes saying I lied and gaslit him our WHOLE relationship and there are apparently “other things” he found but wont say what.

This is where I feel like im NOT overreacting.

He was suspicious before finding any of this. He was already questioning everything, checking my phone, going through my house etc. Then he dug far enough back, found something from before we met and basically said SEE I KNEW YOU WERE A LIAR.

Meanwhile a woman is leaving him voicemails DURING our relationship calling him babe and somehow knows what his brand new apartment looks like???

I ended the relationship and blocked him. He contacted me from another number and email saying I deceived him from the beginning and he wouldve “chosen me anyway.” I blocked that number too.

Im not going back. My reaction has basically been cutting contact and believing that finding something I wasnt honest about from before we met does NOT justify everything he did during the relationship.

I also believe theres a real possibility he wasnt being honest with me about Kayla and some of his constant accusations may have been projection.

AIO for thinking this way and cutting him off completely? Am I connecting dots with Kayla that arent actually there?

👥 friendship Am I overreacting for leaving my friend’s birthday dinner after she invited someone I specifically asked her not to?

I’m 19F, living in LA, and I’m in community college.
My friend “Samantha” turned 20 last weekend, and she invited about 8 of us to a nice restaurant for her birthday.
A few days before the dinner, I found out that she had invited “Lily,” another girl from our old friend group.
I haven’t spoken to Lily in almost a year after a pretty serious falling-out. I won’t get into every detail, but she spread some very personal things about me around our school and I eventually decided I didn’t want anything to do with her anymore.
Samantha knows all of this.
I texted her privately and told her I wasn’t comfortable being around Lily and asked if she could please let me know if Lily was actually coming. She said, “Don’t worry, she won’t be there.”
So I went to the dinner.
About 20 minutes after I arrived, Lily walked in.
I honestly froze. I pulled Samantha aside and asked why she told me Lily wasn’t coming.
She said she didn’t want to “start drama” before her birthday and thought I would be okay once I actually saw her.
I told her I wasn’t okay with it and that I felt blindsided. She apologized but basically told me I was making her birthday about myself.
I ended up leaving before dinner was even served.
Later that night, Samantha texted me saying I embarrassed her in front of everyone and that I should have stayed for two hours and “acted like an adult.”
I told her I wasn’t angry that she invited Lily. It’s her birthday and she can invite whoever she wants.
What upset me was that I specifically asked her if Lily would be there, she told me no, and then deliberately waited until I was already there to tell me.
Now two of our friends think I overreacted and should have just ignored Lily for the evening.
I feel like I would have stayed if she’d simply been honest with me beforehand.
Am I overreacting for leaving?

🎓 academic/school AIO for reporting my teacher after her dog bit me

Hey y'all, this is a weird one. I think I'm not overreacting but the people in my class treat me as such. I'll give y'all the rundown.

I'm in an Animal Science class at my school and my teacher has been bringing her dog to school everyday now since school began. I'd like to explain instantly that this dog is NOT being used for any educational purposes, the Vet Med students do not even begin handling dogs until the second semester. She is bringing her personal, untrained dog to school everyday, I guess because she just wants to? I don't know dogs well but it's a young dog, probably like a year old or something, it looks (based off google) like an Australian Shepard, but it has no tail, just a little bob.

Anyways the classroom is two rooms, one for learning and the other is stationed to be a practice vet area with kennels and such. The dog always whines in there so she brings it out. This dog would bite up peoples stuff and snap at people and pee everyone and we would be forced to clean it up... But on Friday is when the dog started biting. My teacher let the dog out of the vet room and closed the vet rooms door (it locks), then she left the room. Instantly the dog is scared and starts running around and knocking things over, so this girl goes to distract him. They were playing, until she sat down and the dog kept jumping onto her to bite her arms (they were bare). Then the dog tried to rip her jeans, and so I went over to stop the dog. I distracted him and went to look for his toy with him (she locked it up though), and randomly he jumped up and bit my arm (i had a jacket on)! He kept his jaw locked on my jacket sleeve where my arm was not, I had to physically remove him from me while he kinda hung in a way. Another guy finally distracted the dog but also got hurt too.

The teacher comes back and we tell her what happened. She doesn't do much but brush it off and laughs about how another kid got humped and attacked yesterday too. I get the girl who was attacked my first aid kit, and then I write up an email explaining all of what I just said to the principal... AND HE NEVER GOT BACK TO ME!

Today my friend who is in Vet Med (year lower) said that she is making all of the Vet Med students sign their contracts early so she won't be held liable if her dog (which she isn't supposed to have here and isn't for teaching purposes) does anything to them. However even my friend has already been bit too, but he says "That's just what puppies do! It's play!". It's not really a puppy though and It doesn't matter if it's "play", you have to train your dog... and you shouldn't be allowed to keep your dog (let alone an untrained one) at school! Let me reiterate that there is no reason for the dog, not ESA, not service animal.

Everyone loves the dog, but the dog is a menace and shouldn't even be here. Am I a party pooper for reporting this?? I feel entirely justified, if I was that girl (who got attacked with bare arms and bled)'s parents I'd be PISSED if my kid came home with bandages and bruises and blood all over their arms. My ass would be AT that school to figure out wtf happened. This teacher always talking about how we need to instantly get a rabies shot if we ever get bit by an animal and how dogs need their rabies shots and how scary rabies is... but will cover it up instantly when her dog attacks a bunch of her students.

⚕️ health AIO over needles found in hotel room?

My partner and I stayed at an AmericInn recently, and the next morning we discovered a small pile of what appeared to be used needles behind the chair cushion.

We immediately reported it and had the items removed. Thankfully, we weren't injured, but finding used needles where we had been sitting was extremely disturbing and raised serious concerns about the cleanliness and safety of the room.

AmericInn's response was to offer 50% off a future night. We don't travel often, so a future discount or hotel points isn't particularly useful to us. I feel that finding a biohazard like this in a guest room warrants more substantial compensation, such as a refund or complimentary night.

Am I overreacting, or would you expect more from a hotel after finding used needles in your room?

Edit- commented the picture for those interested. E2- maybe not? It disappeared. Note- they had clearly blood inside of them and were not for diabetic injections.

👥 friendship AIO Because My Friend Licks All 10 Fingers During Restaurant Meals

I have a good friend who I sometimes go out to dinner with. At some point during every meal, usually in the middle or toward the end, he puts each of his 10 fingers in his mouth and licks them (one by one). I'm always repulsed by this but I have never said anything and I never will because I hate confrontation. I've seen people who do this with one or two fingers and I think that's also repulsive. I'd like to know if you think this is normal to do, not just in a public setting but even in the privacy of your own home. Am I overreacting? Thanks.

EDIT: When I ask if I am overreacting I'm referring to whether my inner objection and repulsion to it is an overreaction or justified. I have questioned whether "it's just me" that feels this way in a situation like this and that maybe I'm overreacting.

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO considering breakup due to how bf of 4 years behaves

I really need an unbiased opinion here. All my friends I tell obviously take my side and its not really helping me solve the situation.

For context, i 23F have a bf 28M and we have been dating just about 4 years now. He is from india and we have children together.

From the start he has always joked a bit inappropriately, it was always about other girls, how good looking they are, that he'd love to be with them for one night, whatever. At first I thought thats just his weird humour? And must be the humour where he's from? But it hasn't stopped for 4 years now, even when I repeatedly tell him how much it hurts me and makes me feel unwanted. He always has to point out how hot a girl he works with is or a girl on the street and its gradually lowering my self esteem and ive started to hate myself because I receive no compliments from him at all. He will joke how ugly I look and im a "2/10" and he says this all while laughing and obviously trying to play around but I dont find it funny, I do chuckle just because I dont know how to react.

Deep down these comments hurt me a lot, I feel so depressed, started hating myself and my appearance and feel like maybe im not enough and why cant I be pretty like the other girls.

There are times where it's getting better and I hear no inappropriate jokes or bad comments for months and finally think maybe things are changing but then there are months where I just feel like he is constantly putting me down. He even jokes about leaving me in a few years and make me a single mother which obviously isn't nice to hear. I'm at the point where I just dont know what to do anymore.

The good times are really good but there's just this, if he could control his jokes and just not say such things, this would genuinely be a perfect relationship but im not sure if I can go my whole life listening to someone say how hot his coworker is and joking he would cheat on me with her.

The hard thing is we have kids and im not sure how i would cope if I left. I have no family nearby nor do they bother with me, I only realistically have my dad.

I know my bf is going through a hard time right now with his family at home and there has been a lot of struggles there. He is also stressing about finances since only he works due to our kids being too young for me to get back into work just yet. I've offered to start work and we pay for childcare but he always rejects it but complains i do nothing to help him.

I feel like sometimes I should just try to understand he must be so stressed out and maybe this humour is his way of dealing with it since he's not an open person about his feelings and never tells me what's really going on in his mind. The times when I see him most stressed out is when he will make me feel bad the most, so sometimes I feel like this could get better if things in his life finally got sorted out but I dont know for sure.

I just dont know if this is the way men act or because of where he's from since all his friends there are the same way which makes me feel like I should just deal with it? And maybe im overreacting?

I just feel like calling it quits and saying enough is enough, that im done with this behaviour or if I should just deal with it?

Am i overreacting?
