Hi, I’d like to ask for some advice. I found this little bird (probably a female canary) outside the company where I work about a month ago. No one around seemed to be missing it, so we took her and bought her a cage. Over the last two weeks, we’ve noticed that she has a bald spot on the back of hers head (I wasn’t able to take any better photos, its much vissible and thiner irl), and there are also quite a few feathers around the cage. I’m planning to get her a bigger cage so she has more room to fly, right now she has a basic, inexpensive one. I’d like some advice is this normal?

I’ve heard they tend to shed feathers, but I don’t like this bald spot on her head. She eats a lot, and until now she’s only eaten seeds, but I’ve already bought her some dietary supplements and am giving her vegetables and fruit. For about these past two weeks, she’s stopped singing, she didn’t sing much before either just occasionally made a sound but now she hardly sings at all, maybe one sound a day.

I’d be grateful for any advice or tips.

I think she is doing *much* better compared to Sunday night, oh my God that was scary. Her droppings overnight are okay, not the best but doesn't look too concerning.

Previously at rest, she was very loud. Today morning she has been a lot more quieter. Her chest still lets out bubble/crackly sounds but it's definitely no where near as bad as yesterday and the day before. When i grab her to give medicine, the noise is very loud but immediately goes down the second i put her back and has bubble/click instead which is much quieter though still abnormal.

She is not lethargic, she is very very responsive and alert despite all these sounds and sickness. I just wish she wasnt so fussy when grabbing as the noises really scare me.

I rang my exotic vets this morning, also sent an email. I have an appointment with them tomorrow afternoon. They cant do any tests, just physical examination and they will grab her to hear the noise she makes to understand abit more. To do tests such as crop swab she will need to be dropped off in the morning and kept the entire day, but I wasnt sure if its worth stressing her out again. I noticed how loud her breathing gets when shes at the vets or hospital. Also judging by her behaviour today i think its okay to just go for the checkup tomorrow. I really hope these medicines are enough.

I didnt get time to post this yesterday, but these are the sounds she made when eating all day yesterday. When I grab her, this same sound gets VERY LOUD. I dont believe shes the one making this sound by screaming because it doesnt sound like its from her throat, but from the chest when breathing rate gets high.

Thankfully, today she hasn't been making this sound as much when eating. She can eat a bit more quietly. However this sound still happens when I grab her to give medicine or when she gets stressed when she knows shes about to be grabbed. Once i put her back she doesnt make this sound.

Instead she has a consistent clicking/bubble like sound but this sounds way more quieter and less concerning than the one in video. But overall by what I've seen i think she's getting better, besides this sound when grabbing which freaks me out.

UPDATE: She has barely made this sound while eating today. I think she is slowly getting better. The sounds are still there if I grab her no matter how light (for medicine). And if she flies she can make some effort sounds. She's clearly still unwell, but a lot better than last 2 days. Exotic vet appointment is tomorrow

I've had my pigeon for almost two months now so I'm very new to this. He went through a phase of molting late July to early August, and then stopped shedding for about 2 weeks (his face and neck feathers grew back), and has now started shedding again. Is this normal?

im back now ive brought her home. the sounds have gone down now when shes resting but its still there. like its reduced from yesterday at least. it sounds like a "blockage"

she seems to struggle to eat properly. she still appears very bright and moving around a lot. i dont know what to do. she hulls the seeds but doesnt actually eat the inside. she just cracks it open. shes trying. she drank water.

i have literally no avian or exotics today. please advise me on what I can do😭

The vet called me earlier and they said the breathing sounds seemed to have reduced a bit while she was on oxygen overnight plus medication + antibiotics.

They said she's off oxygen right now for documentation and to see how she does. My baby is free to come right now but I asked them if they could monitor for a further few hours off oxygen as anything could happen.

The nurse said my girl sometimes breathes fast but im almost certain its due to extreme stress as she never pants at home with me but you can never be 100% sure. In a few hours I hope off oxygen she has no bad symptoms and that I can bring her back to me again😭💔🙏

So he’s had a rough few days. I had to clean his cage and he needs to be put into a different cage. He’s not my bird so unfortunately I don’t have the time to get him more comfortable with me handling him. He had a blood feather this week and I’m noticing this wing. Is it odd? I’m worried when I grabbed him with a light cloth it broke? He’s still acting normal but I know birds often do when they are sick. He’s always had a weird posture to be fair, his wings never aligned correctly just how he was born. I feel like I’m over thinking but if this stands out in the photo I’d love to hear it! they were sick like half a month ago and lost lot of weight had been on antibiotics for 7 days and they probiotics and liver tonics next 7 days and giving them support handfeed formula every morning it's been 4 days since I stopped medication and Last 2 days I did not give them hadfeeding as they ate lot of sprouts for last 2 days and on bird has lime green very dehydrated kind of poop and another has green slimy poop that always sticks near it's vent on fetheres but both of they having same food I run out of mony has been to doctor this month has ran my pocket dry I need to know is it all right or are they having a problem they has gained weight one was as low as 58 grams and now he is 68 and another was 66 and now 69

I had to go to the cats/dogs emergency clinic. She wouldn't stop vomitting and it looked so bad. They put her on oxygen and took me to another room to ask a lot of questions. They want to keep her overnight on oxygen but the total comes to £800 I was stunned and said no and they brought her to me with medicine.

Upon bringing her back, I noticed she is still making a lot of squeaky sounds very loud per breath, though she appears alert and bright somehow. You guys dont understand how much she means to me. She is literally my baby and she knows how much love she gets at home. After seeing this I had to leave her there :( The total today came to £800. I only had £593 in my bank so i had to use klarna pay in 3.

I am honestly scared to death right now. I dont think ill sleep tonight. The nurse kept recommending hospitalisation, right after I accepted that she said "I cant say for sure if she will improve or deteriorate" like what's the point scaring me, please. I understand its the procedure but oh well I guess. Tomorrow is bank holiday so they cant contact my vet so likely its another £400+ tomorrow. She said its £400+ per day if oxygen is required. And they will be giving medication.

Total came to £800 and they will have to try contact my exotic vet while monitoring her. Exotic is closed due to bank holiday tomorrow so likely have to keep her till Tuesday which will add a further £800. I dont know how i will afford this and if she will be okay. Im at the cat/dog ER right now. Im waiting to be called. Im so worried right now she vomitted more in the car and is still squeaking and making sounds in her breathing. She looks so scared and fighting to get out of the cage.

Does anyone have an idea of what medicine I could ask for? Whats likely causing this vomitting? It happend shortly after eating fresh thoroughly washed kale. Im so confused. I will ask for meloxicam for any potential inflammation. But im still trying to figure out wgats causing vomitting. before we came she ate due to a lot of hunger and then vomitted more :((((((

Hello Everyone, I need some urgent advice about my boy.

Two weeks ago I made his second yearly checkup appointment with his vet, he needs to check ups a year because he had a respiratory illness when he was a baby and we just check to see if it’s returned.

Everything was normal and he was acting like his usual self up until about 4 days ago, he was still his usual self just slightly more aggressive and not listening as well but all of his habits were normal. And about 5 days ago he randomly started screaming as if he’s in pain and lifting up one of his wings and tending to is which was very strange but still being his usual self.

But, yesterday he did a complete 180 and is acting completely different. When I woke him up he wasn’t talking like he usually does and he has slept most of the day and has stayed fluffy even when he was awake. He would only eat if I gave it to him and would occasionally get some him self along with some water which is not like him at all.

And today is no different and I think he might be getting worse. I have no idea what is wrong with him. I am worried it’s something with his wing, or his illness might have come back, or something with is stomach (because he hasn’t really been pooping as much as he usually does), or something else entirely.

I still have his original appointment coming up this Wednesday but I’m worried it will be too late. And I am wondering if I should make an emergency vet appointment.

If there is anyone who thinks they know what’s wrong with him or has any advice about the doctors appointment or how to help him feel better please let me know I will be forever grateful.

- Budgie tired 10mins after eating kale, likely due to being active all morning tho. Slept and 1hr later ate and drank. After that she regurgitated 2 clumps of seeds. Now making these sounds sometimes per breath. It sounds like bubble/clicking, and sometimes like a "whining" sound. Seems tired right now too but still responding to me. Itching nose a lot, so i think something in nose may be irritated.

My budgie has been fine the entire day, she was flying, chirping, eating and drinking. At 2pm I gave her a bowl of washed kale out of the cage so she can eat while having fun out of cage. I noticed 10mins after eating it she seemed tired but I I was just thinking it may be due to flying all day (maybe it is). Then 30mins later she slept for a bit. Ate and drank fine. 1hour later she regurgitated twice, two clumps of seeds. She never does this ever.

Right now she is doing this. Its like a bubble, clicking sound sometimes per breath sometimes pauses but more often than not. She is itching her nose very often and when she does it sounds like "gurgles" or mucus. I wonder if the veg caused this? Because she was completely fine all these days. Her body exaggerates when she makes that noise during breathing. There's some minor tail bobbing but not frequent. She's just itching her nose a lot.

Im so worried right now. Its a Sunday so I cant take her to my vet. And I likely wouldnt be able to tomorrow and would have to go Tuesday. Is there anything I could possibly do for her rn.

UPDATE:

Since making this post she has worsened, the sounds are much louder and she vomitted so much. I have gone to an emergency cat/dog clinic as i had no choice. I had to sadly leave her there for the night to receive urgent care while they get a hold of my vets which will likely be Tuesday, due to the bank holiday💔

so i only have a cat and dog emergency vet and they always warn me before going im on call rn that they dont specialise with exotics. I have no choice because she vomitted again struggling to eat like shes trying but keeps making the sounds due to compression and very slow eating

im so scared rn because she vomitted again. its her bedtime in about 1hour but now i have to go er and im worried she wont get enough rest :((( because they take a very long time

Hello! I’m in texas and a big storm hit my city recently, this storm knocked a birds nest out of a tree. The birds nest is no where to be found, but I did find a nestling, got it in a small towel dried off, and left it for mom to find.
