Comics Probably asked a lot but as a major fan of the show where should I start with the comics
This might sound incredibly stupid, and I should have known, being a DC property and all, but I was completely unaware Black Lightning was actually a comic book character. I like to think I read a lot of comics, and I had no idea he had so much story! I’ve finished the TV show; where should I start with the comics, and what collections should I buy?
I’ve always really connected with the story of Black Lightning as someone who was adopted and didn’t always have it the easiest for being different. My parents and brother are Jewish Israeli, and I am very, very white. I’ve always connected with the idea of found family, feeling different or out of place, but working in spite of that, trying to help people who are struggling and going through hard times, and building your community up, all while everyone around you tries to have an opinion on how you should be doing things.
I also work in the field of social work, so I really appreciate the show for a lot of the messaging it shares. I also really just love the portrayal of Tobias Whale and Lala. They might be two of my favorite villains in media. I think it will be hard for the comics to live up to, especially the Tobias of the show, but I’m hopeful.
Enough rambling—where should I start?
