Fan Art [Megathread] Share Your Ink Here! Bloodborne Tattoos, Vol 1

Greetings, good hunters.

I'll keep it short: we will gradually be refining/clarifying/updating some of the rules here on r/Bloodborne. This is to hopefully provide a clearer/better experience for users. Most changes should just be small tweaks that won't really impact the general user's experience too much, though some (like this megathread) may be bigger.

If you have any comments or concerns, please send us a Modmail.

Circling back to this megathread/bigger changes, tattoos may now be posted! To prevent a flood of posts though, please limit your tattoos to this megathread.

So without further ado, you are welcome to share your Bloodborne related tattoos below!

This was a ton of fun to work on. Bloodborne is an incredible game and finishing it after playing the Soulsborne games for so long was like fire in my veins. While working on this cosplay I got into sewing for the first time and made the trenchcoat, vest and the scarf here to the best of my abilities. The hat was made out of eva foam and wrapped with faux-leather. Though I did get the gun from a toy store for around 20$. Just seemed too good of a deal for what’s basically a direct replica. I’m still working on the gauntlets and the axe but this seemed like a good enough point to get a few nice pictures in.

Co-Op Is it any good as a coop?

My friend and I recently played lords of the fallen and are currently playing remnant 2 on each difficulty setting, but before these have never played anything like this genre. We're really enjoying the coop aspect as we always play together and are wondering if this game is worth picking up next?

Discussion After playing nearly every other Souls game, I've finally picked up Bloodborne.

Alot of things in my head like how useful leveling arcane early is, the crazy distance starer gears can take you and the number of directions to go actually has me confused as well as the updates in the night.

So can anyone else give me some tips for my second playthrough? I just beat the One Reborn so I assume I'm near the end of the game. Also, I know I've messed up some NPC stories because my church is empty and I've seen videos with that place bumping in the night so....yeah....

Discussion Orphan of Kos is one of the highest difficulty spikes in gaming for me

Im really close to the end now, and got to Orphan of Kos today. Up until this point not a lot of bosses gave me nearly as much trouble as this.

Not saying everything was easy, but I rarely felt hard stuck on a boss. They usually took 1 or 2 maybe 3 sessions worth of time until I beat them. At maximum 10 tries or less.

I think one of the hardest bosses so far was probably dark beast paarl or maybe ludwig (because I kinda feel like I beat him with luck in some amount). There were also certain bosses people say are hard like Martyr Logarius, who I literally beat first try.

The last two bosses in the dlc weren't as difficult for me as this one(not easy mind you, but not super crazy). I beat ludwig on my 5th try and Maria on my 2nd try. I also got into parrying a lot starting early in the game, and for a lot of the bosses that could be parried, I often went for that route. I can sometimes pull it off with ook, but it feels like a complete toss up whether i can parry certain attacks (except for specific ones that are more consistent which are in the 1st phase). It also doesn't help that there are multiple attacks that have a similar looking windproof animation, which gets me to guess the move wrong and I get hit by something I didn't predict.

The attacks just seem really fast and relentless, but also unpredictable, and really hard to dodge (the hit boxes seem pretty big). I feel like in some attacks I still get hit even if I think I dodged correctly. I havent beaten him yet, but Ive gotten him down to 1/5 health a few times, but the results in each attempt are inconsistent. In general, ive rarely been frustrated in this game (the only real rage moment was the shark ogres in the well). However this boss pisses me off at times, a lot of attacks and patterns just make no sense to me. Im starting to actually get pissed off.

I notice in my more successful attempts I managed to parry him more in phase 1, and then just dodge dodge r1 r1 repeat in phase 2 (while also running around like crazy when he does that think where he falls from the sky), as well as switching to the Loch Shield to deal with the lightning.

I hear that people take multiple days to beat this guy, and I've only first got to him just this last day, so I guess its normal to not have it down rn. I also think my build is where it needs to be and idk if Leveling would do anything more at this point. (Vit 50, end 25, str 14, skl 50, bld 10, arc 6). Im also running a Rakuyo +10 at this point and have the gems that make it have the most physical damage as I can. I think at this point its just learning the boss more. Ive also considered just moving on to completing the base game and calling that a complete playthrough, idk.

Id like to give it atleast a few more days. I also would like to beat the game by the end of this week, since my college semester starts next week and I dont want this taking up so much mental energy while also using mental energy on that of course. I definitely dont think I'll have the mental energy to be able to stick this out for more than a week. If it takes longer than that then I'm just going to skip ook and just fight the final boss.

Update: I just beat him! It was mostly just gitting gud (learning all the attacks and the exact right way and timing to get past them), trying to stay close at all times, not getting greedy with hits, as well as getting some parries in in phase 1, aswell as a few parties i managed to land in ohase two. Going out into the water helped too.

Thanks for all the help!

Discussion Bloodborne feels like the only game for me where not going in completely blind made the experience good Spoiler

Over the last couple months Ive been playing bloodborne and am still on my first real playthrough (currently stuck on orphan of kos, and then i just have the final boss to do after that). For context, when j was around 14-16 years old (im 22 nkw) I was really into watching yt videos about the games I liked, and I also didn't care about spoilers at the time (nowadays I do care), so I saw boss ranking videos as well as vaati vidya lore videos for all the souls games. I really didn't think much of it at the time.

So now going into bloodborne, i knew the jist of the lore, I mostly already knew about the transition into lovecraftian horror hallways through, I knew very vaguely about the various endings, and I mostly knew about all the bosses.

At first I opted to follow general beginner stats tips I found (focus on leveling vitality to 30 first, then go to 25 on your prefered damage stat), and heard about 25 and 50 being different caps. But other than that I opted to avoid looking at anything related to weapons and items and even clothes UNTIL I acquired them in game already. I like that sense of finding a new toy and playing around with it first.

I mostly opted to sift through item descriptions and in game hints, and just trying to figure out objectives on my own, and even though I was already spoiled on plot and lore, I also forgot a lot about that, so now im avoiding that too, to try and figure that out on my own as well.

As the game got further and further in, I got completely stumped at certain parts and did resort to some Google searches, and tried to only look at as little info as possible just enought o get me to figure it out on my own (this is how I figured out how to get to the dlc area, and cainhurst), but once I got there I just figured it out myself.

However there were a few times when I just looked at a more detailed guide for certain specific things, like how to get the beast hunter saif early (i really wanted it early on because it seemd so cool, and I couldn't avoid being blind to its existence because people talk about it a lot), as well as the way to get the umbilical cords, because one time I mentioned in a discord channel I was in the middle of trying to beat the wetnurse and someone replied "oh, make sure to get the unbilical cords after that and consume them, then you'll get the real ending", so i was worried and looked that up. So I did start getting a bit deeper into the habit. Besides me initially looking up "beginner friendly weapons" and "beginner friendly build", I started going with my gut, and figured out what I like by trying things out. I wanted the sense of discovery on my own, but without the chance of me royally fucking myself up with a terrible build. Not trying to be perfect, but I dont want to suffer way too much needlessly either. There are things that I love so much that I swear I couldn'tve figured out normally. The rakuyo is my fav weapon now. The sharks in the well were SO frustrating (one of the hardest encounters in game), that if I didnt know the reward wasn't a cool as weapon that fit my build, I would've given up after 10 tries, because I didnt see the point. Same with Cainhurst. I got a few hints (tried to avoid detailed guides as much as I could), which got me to that place (and i avoided googlinf anything for the time i was in there), and tbh its my absolute fav area when it comes to aesthetic and atmosphere (big castlevania vibes), and it has a fun boss and my favorite attire in the game now (cainhurst knight). It's sorta like I used a bit of googling just to get me in the right direction and then I figure out the rest by myself.

The weird thing is, is that these days I go blind for every game I play, but with souls games (I did the same thing when I was obsessed with ds3 when i was 14-16), I find getting a bit of help from others is more enjoyable. Yeah, I sorta know what's coming when it comes to the big bosses (and tbf there were a lot of stuff I was blind to, I wasn't COMPLETELY spoiled) kinda adds to the anticipation. When I got the beach in the fishing hamlet, I remembered "wait, Is this going to be orphan of kos?! The boss with the reputation of being the hardest in the game?! Holy shit holy shit!!". Similar with the shift to cosmic horror. stuff like the amygdalas, winter lanterns, bosses like ebrietas, and celestial emessary, even the brain of mensis. I have seen those way in the past, the memory was foggy because it was apoiled so long ago, but jt still means I was in blind. Despite this, just witnessing the shift in tbe story and experiencing it fully for myself in the moment was STILL impactful. Perhaps it could've been more impactful if I was totally blind, but I still loved it when i was playing jt.

For other things, I care A LOT about spoilers, and going in blind tends to be prefered. Stuff like the castlevania series I went into all the games mostly blind, and they were amazing experiences, but i think the main thing with them is that they aren't as difficult and they dont punish you nearly as hard for making a bad build, or missing certain little things in my mind. Even the older linear casltevanias. They tough as nails (harder than Bloodborne imo), but there's zero rpg mechanical decisions to be made, there's almost no variables to the difficulty of each stage. You cant screw yourself long term, only short term in those games.

So, I think the challenge combined with the heavy weight on your build and stuff like that create a much more punishing experience compared to a PURE action game without or with little rpg elements. Call it skill issue (and you're probably right), but I think souls gamss would be too frustrating for me if I was COMPLETLEY blind. I like to spoil myself a little bit, just so I can atleadt start on a decent foot (decent not necessarily optimal). If an RPG with extensive build choices isnt also super difficult and punishing when building badly, then I opt to go in blind. Basically going in blind is my default, and the exception for me seems to be bloodborne and ds3, even though people praise how great a blind playthrough is.

So yeah. These were just my general thoughts on the topic of spoilers in bloodborne, and how I feel like the game is great even though I didn't go in blind. This isnt an argument for any position, just my person experience with the game.

Fluff Started a new BT/SKL run, went for early Chikage. I try to go with a little theme, and this guy is an exiled/disgraced Cainhurst knight (hence the foreign garb and helm) who returned after hearing of the Executioners’ massacre. Anyway, BT is fun lol and I love nailing the Madars Whistle

"Ludwig was the first of many Healing Church hunters to come, many of Whom were clerics. As it was, clerics transformed into the most hideous beasts."

Been wanting to paint Ludwig in mid-transformation to the monstrosity he turns into, and really capture what a painful and horrific experience that would be

Discussion Fairly pointless testing on how the Church Pick's "Beasthunter" modifier works

As you probably know, Church Pick is not serrated, but still gets bonus damage. Likely because a giant spike ripping through a beast is effective.

Serrated weapons also apply their damage buff to attacks done with elemental gems, since the bonus is tied to the weapon not the damage type. But then there's Church Pick, where the bonus is tied to the damage type. Would the same rules apply? Is elemental church pick dogshit?

So, some basic testing using R1 (poke) and back step R1 (slash) on some beast patients, and the bonus is tied to the animation, not the damage type. I got double confirmation when I got an instability hit on the slash and hit for 379 again, since it's a different 20% bonus. This was with a fire gem, and only fire damage was used.

Discussion Am I the only one that finds it very difficult to figure out where I’m supposed to go to progress the story?

I’ve put in nearly 30 hours, & I’ve never encountered a game where it’s so difficult to figure out where to go. Forget the difficulty of the battles, the biggest challenge is how to progress the story. Without walkthroughs, I would’ve given up ages ago.

Ik this game is beloved so I’m wondering if I’m the only one that feels this way. What was your experience?

Lore Did the great ones favor the Pthumerians? And hated the others? Spoiler

Did the great ones favor the Pthumerians instead of the other organizations? (The choir, Byrgenwerth, school of mensis, etc.)

The Pthumerians were quite literally super humans, unlocking the eldritch wisdom, crazy strength, and a lot more
The Pthumerians also looked over slumbering great ones (as described in the bone ash set)

A clear bond is shown between the two, but alas the Pthumerians has fallen due to the beastly scourage

But Now, look at the other organizations, look what they did to the great ones

Byrgenweth literally dissected the body of a great one and the amygdala’s yanked half the building and set it drifting about (the lecture halls, I think that’s what happened?
Rom, the only being that was able to ascend as a great one, isn’t really one. She is physically a great one, yet retrains the consciousness of a human

School of mensis chained up the brain of mensis, and also trapped Megros consciousness (I think)

The choir made celestial emissary by inhumane experiments, so im sure that it holds some type of grudge

The hunters nightmare, created by a great one to endlessly torture them

These institutions has done so much to not even achieve the eldritch wisdom, unlike the Pthumerians

The great ones are described as emphatic beings, so I am sure they have witnessed first hand what has happened to the fishing hamlet, The orphanage and the research hall

So, I ask, do the great ones hate the 3 institutions?
No matter how many times they make contact, I think the great ones refuse to ascend any of them

Apologies if this isn’t written good or lack information

Discussion My interpretation of the story of our character

Post image
206 Upvotes

Our character came to yarnham with the sole purpose of becoming a great one, not for any cure for any illness. He knew that the healing church and byrgenwerth had ways to ascend into the great ones. He knew about paleblood (i.e moon presence), and he knew about the scourge of beast and the night of the hunt. He knows about rituals done trying to ascend and he also knows about a hidden village that is yahargul that beckoned the moon and has a paleblood sky

So he came up with a plan, to go to yarnham and meet a blood minister, to join the healing church in exchange for blood healing on the night of the hunt so that they offer him a contract and he becomes a hunter and gets tied to the dream.

He scribbles on the paper seek paleblood and ascend the hunt to remind him that hunt being the means of start, he need to reach ascension by seeking pale blood (the source of the ancient blood)

Once a hunter he starts to gain trust and blend in, and does as gehrman recommends, kills the beasts, up until blood starved beast and then he encounters a bagman, who kidnaps him and takes him to yahargul, he found the hidden place but there seems to be no ritual nor any sort of paleblood moon. He remembers reading that a spider is vieling the ritual and is at byrgenwerth

He meets alfred that tells him about byrgenwerth a place of knowledge, and tells him that the way is through forbidden woods, he tries to go and enter forbidden woods but it is blocked by a password, the clue takes us to grand cathedral where he gets a vision of master willem and lawrence being split on the discussion of ascension. One wants to do it with blood and rituals and the other by gaining eyes and knowledge.

He goes through the forbidden woods to reach byrgenwerth where he finds that the spider was also a semi-great one made by willem using eyes, knowledge and an umbilical cord in order to veil the world of madness. He goes down, kills the spider to bring on the paleblood moon so that he can come closer to his goal

His goal at this point becomes to kill every great one and have enough insight, umbilical cord and ancient blood to ascend into a great one himself (he is no less than willem and lawrence trying to ascend)

Now that the paleblood moon is here and nothing is hidden he goes on a killing spree of every great one from every dimension, so that no other source remains, kills rom, Celestial emmisary, amygdala, the one reborn, Eberitus, orphan, and finally mergos wet nurse that is holding the nightmare alive essentially killing mergo too. The only one left is the moon presence, he goes to the dream consumes the umbilical cords and faces the moon presence.

He kills her and becomes a great one himself. Everything was pre planned, he wanted to ascend and chose willems path of knowledge, insight, cords and also of blood and rituals. They were both right in there own self but never realised that working together was the way

The hunter always knew, planned and executed his perfect ascension

(I am open to discuss and elaborate ideas, also open to correction of any lore i mis represented. This is just my head cannon and makes the most sense to me. I did skip some of the lore to relate, as I'm going off my memory. Do engage in discussions :) thanks for reading)

Lore Was Eileen employed by the government or a vigilante?

I don't know how I never thought about this before, are Hunters Of Hunters a secret yet legal branch of the Healing Church, made up of one person and eventually their successor who monitor and take out the hunters that have become blood drunk or are they an order operating illegally, essentially a vigilante?

Yes after the Wet Nurse fight we get the message "Nightmare Slain" but its not the Nightmare we killed, Mergo is. We only get the message *after* Mergo stops crying.

I can't tell if I'm being too pedantic or if the wiki is being misleading (The secret third option is both)

Help Hit the door on isoefka’s clinic too much

She said something like “Please Stop”, then I hit the door and she called me mad. She no longer speaks to me at the door?

Does this mean I am locked out of her quest line forever? I’m unsure as to how far I have to progress the game to get to her clinics other entrance and find out if shes there or not.

If she isn’t, I honestly would rather start a new save than play the game without a major part of it.

So, am I okay or not?

Edit: she sorry only had one convo with her
