Meta New Rule: Budget Must Be Chosen

Hey all,

Thank you all for continue flagging over-budget decks. We’ve done two things that should help make this easier going forward:

• There is an “Over $100” flair. This is intentional. If someone chooses this, the post will be automatically removed. The hope here is to teach people this is budget brews under $100.

• The flair “Deck Help” has been removed. This will force players to choose a dollar tier for the deck, and should help where people try to submit decks which are over-budget by classifying it under a non-dollar flair.

We have had discussions over the years whether we want to allow more expensive decks, but time and time again the community has said no. So until we decide otherwise, these steps should help to protect our community with under $100 budget decks.

Meta New Rule: No Promoting or Advertising

I, like many of you I imagine, am tired of seeing posts with half-baked apps and websites for Magic stuff. So I’ve decided to make a new rule that I think will go over well with you all: No promoting or advertising of apps or websites unless staff decides to make a prior exception. If someone violates this rule, they will be instantly banned. And if you made one of these things and want to share it, do not bother asking us for approval, because I’m done granting it for very meh apps and websites. If we want you to showcase it, we’ll let you know. (Manatithe as the lone exception comes to mind.)

Note that a deck being shared and just mentions it was built using a tool is fine. But the “I built this app” or “this Magic website is great for the following five reasons” will result in a ban.

Please, keep flagging problematic posts, and we will deal with them! Thank you all.

$50 Brew Goblins Do Aristocrats Now! ($47 The Great Goblin Aristocrats)

Folks, I've made a cracked goblin aristocrat deck for under $50:

https://moxfield.com/decks/QuwUCtvMAEupfkSjsgf7gQ

Thanks to [[The Great Goblin]] goblins now have card advantage and other ways to deal non-combat damage in the CZ. It's a HUGE WIN, and a great place to put some of the new tricks from Lorwyn Eclipsed like [[Boggart Mischief]].

Not only can you win through INFINITE lines with persist creatures, but now you can throw damage around by placing counters too. It's so fun, and a brew made for the goblin lover since EVERYTHING in the 99 is a goblin.

I've got a full deck tech, with combo lines and upgrade reccos, live on YT now:

$100 Brew Sarkhan Voltron – Can we make this work?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I recently went through my bulk and stumbled across one of my first-ever Magic cards: Sarkhan, Soul Aflame. That got me thinking about building a Dragon Commander deck, something I’ve always wanted to do but never really found the right commander for.

The problem is: I don’t actually own that many Dragons. So rather than trying to win through regular Dragon combat damage, I had a different idea:

What if I build Sarkhan as a Voltron commander and win through Commander damage?

Sarkhan becomes a copy of a Dragon whenever another Dragon enters the battlefield, while still being Sarkhan. That seems like a pretty interesting way to turn him into a massive threat.

The rough idea is:

  • Dragon ramp/discounts like Dragonlord’s Servant and Dragonspeaker Shaman to get Dragons onto the battlefield quickly.
  • Power boosts like Crucible of Fire and Patchwork Banner to make Sarkhan bigger once he becomes a Dragon.
  • Double damage from cards like Twinflame Tyrant to potentially close out a player with one attack.
  • Dragons like Tyrant of Kher Ridges or Shivan Dragon that can give Sarkhan ways to pump himself.
  • Dragons with useful ETB or attack triggers to give the deck some additional value and speed.
  • Ideally, some way to get an extra combat phase and finish someone off.

So essentially, I’m looking for cards that support a Sarkhan Voltron strategy — cards that make Dragons cheaper, pump Sarkhan up, double his damage, or give me additional combat phases.

The deck is technically Dragon tribal, but the Dragons are really there to enable Sarkhan rather than being the main win condition.

Does this sound like a realistic game plan, or am I asking way too much of Sarkhan? I’d love to hear any card suggestions, ideas, or general advice!

I actually have all the cards I mentioned in my bulk.

Thanks for ur advice!

$50 Brew Najeela and Her Amazing Friends

Hey everyone!

Brewed up a budget-y low bracket [[Najeela, the Blade-Blossom]] deck and wanted to share it with y'all. Its purposefully missing staples like [[Faeburrow Elder]], [[Druids' Repository]], and [[Derevi, Empyrial Tactician]] so the deck stays low bracket and doesn't go infinite, but it wouldn't be difficult to make some cuts to the deck and have it stay sub $100. There is some synergy with [[Song of Freyalise]] that may get you some extra combats per turn cycle, but not enough to go infinite. Would love to see other people's budget Najeelas, as well as know what y'all would cut/add to this deck!

Like the title states in search of Rev, Tithe Extractor budget deck excluding Rev in the cost.

I’d like to lean into the thief side.

I have some strong mono black cards laying around like Revel in Riches, Jet Medallion, Imp’s Mischief, Reanimate I’d include if it made sense.

Any suggestions help! Thanks!

$100 Brew Gerard Weatherlight Combo

Upvotes

Hey, looking on some advice for a Gerard Weatherlight Hero brew. Trying to stay in Bracket 2 (most of my play group is playing precons with minor upgrades) with a side board to pop up to bracket 4 with some other friends. Trying to stay to $1 or less per total card count. And going for a combo win where I kill everything and Gerard on repeat until I win. I love combos. Thoughts, questions, comments, concerns and suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

$50 Brew Looking to join Commander and would love some advice on budget decks that are both fun and can keep up with meta

Hey guys! Returning player here. Haven't played since around 2017 and I'm looking to get into commander and would love some advice on Commander decks to build. The budget I've got is around $50 but it's not hard set.

Would love decks that focus around LOTR (+ The Hobbit), Avatar the Last Airbender, God of War, Spiderman, Doctor Who or DnD. They dont have to be these, I just think they're neat.

Thanks!

$50 Brew Ghalta, Primal Hunger – Mono-Green Stompy (Under $50)

I really wanted a stompy deck for my set, with some throwback cards to the 60 card Señor Stompy deck I used to play when Ice Age and Mirage were both around. I went with [[Ghalta, Primal Hunger]], which feels like the most stompy of all mono-green commanders.

Budget: Under $50 using Card Kingdom prices for the 99 (because they’re closer to Australian prices). The majority of cards under $1, but if a few are a little more expensive then that’s fine, especially since prices seem to be constantly fluctuating lately. Not including the commander in the budget, because if I end up completing the 32 deck challenge I'll be screwed on the 4 colour commanders. I’ve already had to adjust this deck multiple times because of price changes so I think I’ll just accept what it’s at now. It was below $50 very recently, even if it isn’t now. Avoiding the Sol Ring/Dark Ritual/Counterspell/Swords to Plowshares region of cards for budget and power reasons.

Power Level: Bracket 2. No infinite combos or un-telegraphed “I win” conditions. I’ve started trying out SlingLab that someone posted on one of the other subs and it seems to clock all my decks as bracket 2 decks that “threaten the table around turn 8 or 9”, for what it’s worth.

I don’t think there’s anything particularly unusual in the deck comparing it to other budget Ghalta decks I could find online, except maybe the nostalgia cards like [Spectral Bears]], [[Jolrael’s Centaur]], [[Rogue Elephant]], [[Bounty of the Hunt]], and [[Heart of Yavimaya]]. I don't think even they're too out there though.

I’ve done a little bit of testing on Forge and it plays exactly how you’d expect it to. It was a nice change of pace to play a straightforward commander deck though, and I understand now why people like Ghalta.

$50 Brew 80% Winrate with a $50 Budget Deck in Competitive MTG BRAWL! Light PAWS ...

Sup my homies, I am sharing this one today because it went extremely well in the competitive brawl queue today and I figured you might be interested.

Especially because we were slaying ancient tomb, chrome moxes, and mox ambers like it was going out of style! The horror they must of felt when this $50 budget deck completely terrorized their Gandalf playstyles and left them wondering why they would even want to build that deck out in real life :)

This commander is dirt nasty and I honestly felt we had gas for days, I was posing the question to the YouTube audience if they ever had experience with this commander in EDH, and if so what kind of suggestions they might have moving forward with the deck.

Realistically she is putting 17/17 stats on herself with ward 2 with [[sheltered, by ghosts]] [[ethereal armor]] and [[all that glitters]] by turn 4-5.

Let me know what you think of the list!

$50 Brew $50 Commander deck

My playgroup and I have decided to do a $50 budget war. Each of us are doing a strong but non combo focused deck.

For example, one of my friends is building Tifa Lockhart. The deck is really strong but he might be lowering the power level of it a bit to match the rest of us. Another one of us is building a fun bird themed deck with Choco, Seeker of Paradise.

I don't know what I want myself yet. I don't want anything too powerful like a Magda, Zada, or Yuriko that you can build cheaply but powerfully. I want something that can be both fun to play and play against but can compete and interact with the other decks when needed. I'm fine with any color/s or strategy.

If anyone has any fun decks they have in mind, I'd love for you to share them and possibly a list!

$100 Brew I found an Aerith build online and I’ve edited it a bit with what I have. Thoughts on changes?

The net deck is gonna be in the comments. Basically I’m gonna buy the creature base in the net deck list and stick with the changes I made. I’m kind of going for a “I don’t give a shit if Aerith dies” she’s just another life gain tool. Basically a go wide and protect my board as much as possible. I’m not a good deck builder and I’m mostly an aristocrats player. So these are my changes. I kinda like them but would like to see what you think. And the creature base in the net deck would pretty much stay the same. I kind of want more historic matters cards like Teshar because I think I could make it work with the artifacts im running. Basically I just wanna exile all your shit lol.

$100 Brew Help me be petty: Optimizing 100 $ Korvold

Recently, my playgroup had a discussion about deck budgets and strong commanders. My take was that low budget doesn't mean low power, especially if the commander itself brings a lot of power to the table. The Korvold deck of one of our playgroup members came up, so I just said: "Watch me build a $100 Korvold deck, and let's see how well it's going to play."

So please guys tell me your best tech for Korvold.

Here is my current list https://moxfield.com/decks/6MyNEZT2tUuWSIgrZgMedA

Build around treasures and food. The wincon is artifact drain/damage or Korvold combat damage.

$100 Brew Cards for a Temur "Everyone gets resources FAST" deck?

Cards for a Temur "everyone gets stuff FAST" deck

Hello all I want to build a deck around [[Flubs the Fool]] based around playing effects that just give everyone a lot of resources fast: extra cards, extra lands, tapping lands for double. The idea is I just want everyone to have a lot of resources and have them fast, as kind of my "were going to make this game EXPLOSIVE and INTERESTING" sort of deck, so not even necessarily a a politics/group hug deck. The strategy will basically fit into a landfall/huge mana kinda shell, but I moreso just want jumpstart a fast game than I care about consistently winning.

I'm thinking of cards like [[Mana Flare]], [[Rites of Flourishing]], [[howling mine]], [[dictate of kruphix]], etc.

I want stuff that can come down early, and has a symmetrical effect. So I don't really care to play the temptations or anything like that. And I also don't care to play "chaos" kind of effects like thieves auction or the like. Just stuff that gives everyone more resources.

I know some of the obvious ones, but I'm looking for any suggestions of stuff that I wouldn't necessarily think about but would fit the ethos.

$100 Brew Looking for Feedback

Hey everyone looking for some feedback on this Ragga Dragga brew

The list: https://moxfield.com/decks/8mnoHCb5d0ayzC8QKF0tGg

Tried to stick to under 1 dollar per card with the few notable exceptions being cards I already own so I’m not factoring them into my budget.

Let me know if there any blatant blind spots I’m not seeing.

$100 Brew Budget deck that doesn't suck ass

I've been playing MTG for a long time but I've taken some pretty large breaks. I started playing with a new group in my college and all the decks I have are precons and they have pretty good bracket 3 decks, some of them have high tier bracket 4 to cEDH. They are proxy friendly but I personally just like owning the cards myself and not proxing. I build a lot of decks at home on archidekt, but I don't play them online since I don't know anyone to really play with. Since I am only tryng to spend like $100 on dollars on a deck, I don't know which of my decks to buy. If y'all have any good bracket 3 decks or even bracket 4 on a budget or know where to buy good ones at, that would be helpful.

$100 Brew Can't find a deck for this idea

I want to make a Wilson refined grizzly and noble heritage group hugish deck. I cant find any idea like this anywhere and I thought it would be a fun deck. I suck at building decks.

Budget below 200. Bracket 3 or above if possible.
