Is stebbens still the best option for gunsmithing near Fairfield area

Upvotes

I used Mitch Schultz from the time I moved here back in 2020 because everybody said he was the best and he was. I have not needed anybody since he retired but people said stebbins in new Milford is on the same level as Mitch. I just want to make sure there is nobody else closer before I drive all the way up there.

AWB - Certificate processing Timeline?

Upvotes

Hello,

I hate to ask this. A friend of mine has been waiting for several certificates of Possession of Assault Weapons from DESPP since April 27th 2024. This was before the registration deadline.

Yes we know, all gun laws are an infringement but this individual has other contributing factors and so they wanted to avoid risking any criminal offenses.

What are there options? Are certificates still being processed? Are there other people stuck in this limbo? Should they write DESPP and/or contact an attorney? Or should they just wait?

How long is it taking to get your pistol permit these days typically?

Unfortunately I have to get my pistol permit again after it expired. Between buying a house and having a baby it slipped my mind and I’m past the grace period, so I accept I just have to go through the process again.

I live in griswold. Last time I got mine just as Covid was taking off, so there was a huge backlog and it took about 4-5 months. How is it these days now?

Looking to try a 4.25 Platypus

Anyone in the Fairfield or New Haven county with a 4.25 Platypus I could try? I’d supply ammo and lunch.

I’m interested in the Stealth Arms product, but have to try it out.

I was at Sig a couple months ago and rented the P211 GT4, nice firearm, that’s an option, too.

Thanks

AW certs finally received!

Submitted 9 of them electronically 9-20-23. Got emails today. But all of this probably won't matter next year depending on what Supreme Court decides. Hopefully others got approved today. Maybe they did a bulk batch.

Best pcc/bag guns ?

Looking to buy a pcc or arp (not a fan of Ruger pcc’s) and I’m okay with it being fixed until I move. Any recommendations?

Compact safe recommendations?

I have a Fast Box Model 20 and wanted another, but they've been discontinued. I might just get a Model 42 instead but I wanted to check here for recommendations to see if I'm missing something.

Are there any compact safes like the Fast Box Model 20? What do you use for handgun storage?

I built an iPhone app that maps firearm-law references along a driving route — looking for honest feedback

Full disclosure: I’m the developer of CarryRoute.

I built it because ordinary reciprocity maps don’t show everything encountered during an actual drive—county and city boundaries, tribal areas, transit properties, stops, and overnight stays.

You enter two addresses, and CarryRoute:

  • Maps the route using Apple Maps
  • Breaks it into state, county, city, tribal, and special-jurisdiction sections
  • Lets you tap each route section
  • Shows concise research summaries with links to official government sources
  • Accounts for your resident state, permits, age, and selected carry/transport mode
  • Supports offline itineraries and optional jurisdiction alerts

The route colors identify jurisdiction changes only. They do not mean legal/illegal or safe/unsafe. CarryRoute is a research tool—not legal advice—and users should verify the current official text.

I’d genuinely appreciate blunt feedback: What information would you want before crossing a state or local boundary? What would make the route view more useful?

iPhone/iPad: CarryRoute: CCW Navigation

It’s free to download. Optional Pro is $2.99/month or $12.99/year with a 14-day introductory trial.

Moving out of state (CT to FL)

Hey everyone,
I know these questions get asked a lot but I know other states laws constantly change and there are much more informed members than I. I am driving down with the wife in three weeks to Florida, we have a moving company handling a majority of the move however will be driving down due to pets and firearms. We will have her vehicle on an auto hauler being towed by my SUV. All my firearms are CT compliant or C&R(still all CT compliant), all my magazines are CT compliant as well. My plan is for all weapons to be in cases locked, Magazines in separate cases all locked, and ammunition in ammo cans all separate from magazines and firearms. None will be within reach of myself or my wife, and realistically covered and hidden. With these precautions in mind, What states do I need to avoid and or keep driving through?

As of right now my plan is to go right down I95. Is there a better or more 2A friendly way to go(even if longer)? I plan on driving the posted limit, both vehicles are a year old and trailer(U-Haul Auto Hauler) will be properly hooked up so shouldn’t have any issues there, however my biggest fear is being pulled over and getting screwed over by not having a permit or something for that specific state. Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated!

Shipping to FFL

I’m looking to order a suppressor online and have it shipped to an FFL. Does the FFL make any money on this or is it mostly an inconvenience? I’m mostly new to all this and would like to support local but the shop I first went to does not have the suppressor I want. TIA

What glock?

I am a complete glock noob. I wanna grab one before the 10/1 complication.

I have a 1911 that takes glock mags, a pcc that does as well (both 9mm). A glock does make sense for the collection. I also do have a small xds (45) for those summer clothes carry situations.

I'd like to get something between the commander 1911 and the xds, optic capable. All the mags i have are g17. I like to modify things and understand there are a lot of options on the platform, as well as the rxm platform.

So if you were to buy your first glock that could ideally play with g17 mags, 9mm, and fit between the bulk of a 1911 and the slim short grip of an xds, what would you look for? Not trying to break the bank but willing to spend for the right option.

First buy for the oppressed?

If and when this AW ban gets deemed unconstitutional, which I think it MUST. Or else the other 50 states are in play. What are you going with first?

As much as I want an AR, I would really love a sub gun like a Kuna or SP5. Sooo many options. Curious what people will pick as their first

Moving to Hamden and would like store suggestions

As the title says I’ll be moving to Hamden soon and commute to East Lyme occasionally for work and was wondering what everyone’s store suggestions is.

Any places with a large used selection or a place that specializes is weird obscure stuff is kind of what I’m looking for (Astras, AMTs, old milsurp pistols for example)

No stores that just sell new stuff for retail prices

Needing Pistol Advice

Hi everyone!

I'm in the works of obtaining my permit and was wondering what would be a good sized pistol for a first timer? FYI I'm doing it as home defense, but also for fun/hobby with my boyfriend. I'm a smaller woman so I can't have too much kickback just yet. I really like pink or a nice blue pistol, but my friend told me to stray away lol. Any advice would be great! My shots are not perfect, but I just want a comfortable gun I can concealed carry and that is beginner friendly!

Hard/fast fixed mag SBR do's and don'ts for 2026?

The more I look around the more conflicting information I find. Effing CT.... Im not looking for legal advice, im looking for guidance on what is acceptable in 2026 for an AR fixed mag SBR.

Want to build:

Fixed mag AR10 RIFLE, not PISTOL

8" barrel (this is one of the points of contention)

collapsible stock (aware of 30" OAL) (collapsed or bloody extended?)

Will be suppressed, pinned or unpinned depending on legal needs.

VFG (More contention).

Some stinking clarity would be amazing, please....... please.

I'd prefer we just stuck to what is acceptable on RIFLE BUILDS. I truly and deeply appreciate clear guideline insight.

SAF Files Opening Brief in Viramontes/Grant SCOTUS AR-15 - Semiautomatic Rifle Ban Challenge

Link to the brief: https://saf.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Viramontes-opening-brief-8.28.26.pdf

SAF has posted a X.com thread with highlights from their brief. Start with this opening x.com post: https://x.com/2AFDN/status/2093438691201134664

SAF does touch on feature bans in their brief.

While the brief does mention magazine capacity and bans on those magazines several times, it also states the following; "Those bans are not challenged and are not at issue in these cases." Folks should remember that the court will generally confine itself to the question presented. That question is: "Whether the Second and Fourteenth Amendments guarantee the right to possess AR-15 platform and similar semiautomatic rifles."

Legal clarity

Hello everyone, i need some help cleaning something up because i thought one thing, my friends are saying two others and the internet isn’t helping.

I bought a bare lower receiver before the ban a few years ago, registered before the deadline. I’ve wanted to build a .300 blackout for a while so i was at the gun store today talking to a worker and he informed me i could attach an upper with a 8 inch barrel, and a PDW pistol brace and be perfectly legal as long as i don’t put a stock or foregrip; that if i wanted to add either of those I’d have to file to register it as an SBR.

I’m now being told by multiple buddies of mine it’s all illegal no matter what i do or until i register it as a SBR.

Can someone please confirm any of this for me or a link with the actual laws? I keep getting different results online, every friend turns into a lawyer when you ask and i just want to know if i can actually slap all this together without becoming a felon and what I’d need to do right.
