The inspiration for this concept came from the TV series Shōgun. The samurai and the overall aesthetic of Japan during that era made a great impression on me. I wanted to create a high-ranking, noble samurai who could exist and fight in some kind of alternate reality.

This is my superhero team, the Challengers Bravo. They are a group of teen heroes led by Switch, who is on the left.

Switch is the former sidekick of the hero Blue Eagle. But people doubt his ability to strike out on his own due to his unreliable powers which shut off randomly in battle. He is experienced and more than capable of taking care of himself, but he is torn between a lack of self-confidence and having something to prove at all costs.

Moon Shadow can jump through shadows, using them as portals. She can alter their size and shape in order to facilitate her instantaneous movement between them. A quirk of her powers is that she gained a natural affinity for certain skills. She is a master of multiple martial arts, as well as gymnastics and acrobatics, to the point where her movements seem superhuman even when they aren’t. Despite being a combat master, she is an anxious wreck and not particularly enthusiastic about being a superhero. She’s also new to Herald City—the city of superheroes—and completely unaware of the names and culture of superheroics.

Animalady is a refugee from the planet Ma’Malia. Perpetually goofy and chipper, though not quite the brains of the outfit, she wants to be a superhero in order to build goodwill toward her tiny community of refugees. She doesn’t have superpowers per se, but is naturally stronger than a human, with a powerful sense of smell and sharp claws. Oh, and the ability to transform into any mammal from Earth or her homeworld.

Bionic Boy lost his father to a supervillain and has had a chip on his shoulder ever since. But he’s also confident and cocky because he knows he can back it up. He has the power to gain immediate developer-level expertise with any electronic or computer system that he’s currently interfacing with, but only as long as he’s at the controls. This allows him to use armor give to him by TomorrowTech Industries as part of a PR campaign to show its effectiveness. The armor grants him protection from even high caliber bullets, gauntlets that enhance his power and can form hard light constructs, allows him access to the Internet and computer networks, and so much more. He is out to prove that he’s more than just a company’s PR stunt.
