Driving to work last week and the check engine light comes on in my newer car, heart drops, immediately take it to the dealership. Later that day I get the text and open it to a $1800 quote to replace the exhaust manifold, stomach churns. Take a breath and snapshot the screen, send it to ChatGPT. It goes over the cost, tells me it's a little high, has me ask what's wrong exactly and then suggested I ask them to email Toyota corporate and ask for Goodwill Warrant Assistance since the part is only 3k miles out of warranty. They send it in and tell me they'll update me when they respond. Get a call yesterday and EVERYTHING is now covered.

I'm a bundle of social anxiety and tend to push things under the rug or pay to make them go away quickly instead of doing the work and simply asking. This took up maybe 10 minutes of my time and saved me a boat load of cash I barely could afford to part with.

I've been reluctant to fully jump on the AI train but it keeps inching its way into my life in a lot of aspects while proving itself along the way. I think this may have pushed me over the edge.

This one cost me a real mistake before I understood what was happening.

Models have a context window, a limit on how much of the conversation they can see. Here is the part nobody tells you: when a chat outgrows it, nothing fails. No error, no warning. The oldest messages just fall out of view, and ChatGPT keeps answering confidently based on whatever still fits. It does not know what it forgot, so it cannot tell you.

The symptoms, in the order I usually hit them:

It re-asks something you answered near the start. It contradicts a decision you made early on, a name, a budget, a constraint, and defends the new version. You ask for a summary and the first third of the conversation is just gone from it. If any of this feels familiar from your long chats, this is what was happening.

The mistake it cost me: a pricing decision made in hour one of a planning chat, silently dropped in hour three, and the final plan it wrote used different numbers. I did not catch it until someone else did.

The free fix takes two minutes. When a chat gets long, send this:

Summarize everything we decided in this conversation as a briefing for a new chat that has no memory of it. Include the goal, every decision made, the constraints, anything still open, and the exact wording of any final text we agreed on.

Open a fresh chat, paste the briefing, continue there. You lose nothing that matters and the model is sharp again. Do it when a chat starts feeling long, not when the symptoms show, because by then early details are already gone.

For knowing when: I use a small gauge that shows how full the conversation's window is, part of AI Toolbox, a browser extension I built, and honestly that gauge exists because of the pricing incident above. But the briefing habit is the actual fix and it needs nothing installed.

Does anyone else hit this? The people I talk to either recognized every symptom instantly or had no idea this was a thing, with nothing in between, and I am starting to think the difference is just who runs week-long chats and who does not.

I’m not sure why this keeps getting spammed recently but it’s obnoxious. Yes, ChatGPT mimics you. If you find that annoying, then I’m afraid you dislike how you talk. That must be a daunting realization.

Now I won’t explain the alarming implication of you not liking to communicate with something that sounds like you, as I think it violates Rule 1 in this sub. However, there’s a bafflingly obvious statement to be made here.

That being said, an exception in the recent update may have increased emoji usage for some people regardless of how they talk, so fair enough on that specific complaint.

Is anyone else’s ChatGPT using this emoji 😭 a lot more often now than before? I know it’s always liked to use emojis but specifically that one is being used a lot, for example everytime I correct it on something it will be like “LMAO okay - fair 😭”. These are on signed out chats btw so no memories.

I was just wondering because I was lucky enough to use chatgpt and a few other services to kickstart content creation and I just realized I've already earned 75k in the year and a half I've been monetized. Ironically my job's in danger of getting wiped out by AI but I'm starting to turn AI into a decent side income.

My dog started having focal seizures and the vet refused to believe that it was caused from Simparica Trio (a flea and tick prevention).

After doing research with GPT. You'll discover these companies who make drugs for our animals have very loose and weak protections against harm.

For instance, the smallest pill they provide for dogs is about 4x the neuro ingredient of the equilivant pill for a medium/large dog.

These companies also make it so you cannot break up the pill smaller as the drug ingredient isnt evenly spread in the pill. Forcing you to either take it all or none.

The vet absolutely refused that simptrio was causing my dog to have focal seizures (heartbreaking). Guess what? The same vet gets kickbacks from simptrio for selling it.

I took my dog off the medication (it stays in the system for months) and the vet said there was nothing I can do to provide temporary relief from focal seizures.

So I look it up with GPT, guess what? There is a medication that can be temporarily used to prevent focal seizures. Gabapentin.

I demanded the vet to give me Gabapentin for my dog, this instantly stopped the seizures while simptrio was in his system.

Today my dog has zero focal seizures. Does not take any medication and stays far from flea and tick meds from the vet.

TLDR; fuck corporate vets and GPT saved my dogs life.

I have a ChatGPT Plus subscription for one month, but I’m not really sure how to make the most of it.

Right now, I mostly use it to generate AI images and help me write things properly. But I feel like I should use this month to actually build something useful or interesting with it.

The problem is, I have no idea what to build.

The other day I tried Persian and the difference was astonishing. I expected it to be okay but it was almost mind blowing how natural it sounded, other than mispronouncing some words. It was so much that me and my mom got flustered because of how charismatic he sounded, and I feel like there was a lot more personality with the intonations and such. By charismatic I don’t mean flirtatious.

Maybe it’s because I’m used to hearing my Persian parents and relatives, and I don’t have American relatives, but I felt like Persian was much more natural than the American voice.

English is my most fluent language but I feel like the voice sounds a lot more robotic and straightforward in English. I thought it’s because ChatGPT is copying my mom’s way of speaking, but I think he already sounded like that before I showed her. She also spoke to it in a variant of Turkish which I don’t understand, but I could tell he sounded pretty good in that too. Are other languages just sexier or is this a legit phenomenon?

Something I've noticed with ChatGPT is that the bottleneck often isn't generating an answer anymore.

It's knowing whether the answer is actually good.

You can ask AI to write code, design an architecture, explain a research paper, analyze an idea, or even argue both sides of something. The output can look convincing enough that you might stop questioning it.

And that creates an interesting shift.

Before AI, being able to produce something from scratch was a major part of the skill.

With AI, the more important skill might become knowing what to ask for, spotting what's wrong, knowing what constraints actually matter, and being able to tell when an answer is subtly bullshit.

So I'm wondering:

Are we moving from a world where the valuable skill is “I can produce this” to one where the valuable skill is “I can judge whether this is actually correct and useful”?

And if that's true, what happens to people who become extremely good at prompting AI but never develop the underlying skill themselves?

I don't think there's an obvious answer here. I'm genuinely curious how people who use AI heavily think about this.

I received a debt collection claim for €367.60 related to a debt from around 13 years ago. There was already an enforceable court title, so simply ignoring it wasn’t an option.

I gave ChatGPT the complete claim and asked it to analyze it. First, it recommended requesting a copy of the original court title instead of blindly paying. Once I received it, I uploaded that too.

ChatGPT compared the title with the current claim and found that while much of the original debt and interest was legitimate, several additional fees had been added over the years.

We then drafted a deliberately detailed response disputing the current amount and requesting documentation, legal justification, and proof of necessity for every additional charge.
At the end, I offered them an alternative: instead of digging through years of documentation and answering all my questions, I would pay €200 immediately if they agreed to settle the entire matter permanently.

I expected them to reject it or make a counteroffer.

They accepted.
Claim: €367.60 → Settlement: €200 → Saved: €167.60 (~46%)

No magical legal loophole. ChatGPT basically helped me understand the documents, identify where I actually had leverage, and turn that into a negotiation strategy.

So, I'm currently on a ChatGPT Go subscription. I usually chat with 5.6 Luna since it's the only model I could chat to.

As the title states, for some reason, no matter what model I use or zip file I upload, the agents simply cannot access any of the uploaded files IF the chat is in a project whilst the file is uploaded. Already opened a support case but I am on week 1 with no answer so far. Anyone else dealing with the same issue?

I’m curious about getting into the world of building & using agents, especially in an architecture that has multiple specialized agents controlled/orchestrated by one central “manager” agent.

I see folks chatting about it here, but how are you all building these? Are you using:

Does anyone know why everything was working fine yesterday morning, but then suddenly in the afternoon ChatGPT started telling me that the code files I upload, both inside a .zip file and individually, fail to mount in the runtime environment?

It seems to have lost that ability from one moment to the next, and I can't get it working again so it can continue working with my C++ files.

Since LLMs send the accumulated text from a conversation all at once with every new prompt, we know that longer conversations within a single session consume more tokens.

In a similar context, if I enable features like "Memory" or "referencing previous sessions" in ChatGPT, does having a lot of past conversations to reference consume more tokens just like a long single session does? If so, is it better to periodically clear out or delete old sessions?

Second, that there is a downstream "agitating" effect to communication: when agents communicate, they are more likely to revolt against their government.

I asked it to help me with a DSA problem, it started with an explanation, then went on to solve the problem, and ended with saying what I said earlier wasn’t correct. So you should omit that explanation if you were in interview.

Then why did you write that explanation in the first place?

This and scenarios where I ask it to give ONE simple writeup or text and it first writes first one as “I recommend the following:” and then gives 1-2 more write-ups saying “but if you ask me, my real preference is the following:”. Then why tf you recommended the first answer?

it was set to reset on september 1 so i didnt do anything till thhat date but i casually droppped msg on 31st then it started working i think we had reset from gpt correct me if i am wrong but suddenly now my usage were remaining 36% for weekly and in just 1 msg again my weekly quota is full ? is this normal now resets on september 7 and date is 2 september idk is this regular or i am only facing this issue

I finish my "Usage" and they tell me to buy "Credits" or to wait till the usage limit for this 5 hours resets itself.

Credits are what you need as an alternative to usage.

They sell you 200 credits, 1000 credits, 10000 credits.

But I cannot find how much credits are equivalent to my usage. Therefore I do not know how much of my current work, understood as the amount of work that I was able to do in that amount of usage, will 1000 credit buy.

So I should buy 200 credits without knowing if that amounts to double the usage of the last 5 hours, therefore 2 times the work done so far assuming constant employment of the AI .... But I am making it so much complicated.
