Any active Christian ska bands left?

Grew up (spiritually) on the OC Supertones, some Five Iron Frenzy, but when seeking more horn-fueled punk, all I find are old, broken up bands. Some are still good stuff, but would love to hear and support anyone still skanking for God.

Name that obscure 90s female-fronted Christian alternative band?

I’m trying to remember the name of a Christian female fronted alternative/ rock band. I think it’s from the 90s, possibly the very early 2000s. they had this song that I really liked, and I’ve been searching all over the Internet to find out who this band is, and I haven’t been able to find it, Google Gemini and ChatGPT have not yet been able to find it.

I’m fairly sure it was recorded sometime around 1997–2003, possibly a little earlier or later. It was by a relatively obscure female-fronted Christian band, not one of the major CCM artists. I remember it as a real alternative-rock band with distorted electric guitars, bass and drums, rather than a contemporary worship group.

The song had a mid-tempo 6/8 (possibly 3/4) feel. I would estimate the underlying tempo at around 78 BPM.

I think the song may have been called “Sun, Moon, Stars,” although that’s not certain.

Here are the lyrics as I remember them:

“Verse 1: You’ve been so close to me
I can’t believe where you have been
In the corners of my mind

Verse2: You’ve been so good for me
I can’t believe what you have done
In the shadows of my heart

Pre-chorus:…burning like fire…desire

Chorus: Sun, moon, and stars all bow to who you are
The great affection has seized my heart.”

Some of the wording may be slightly different, but I’m pretty confident about most of these phrases.

I’ve considered Fleming & John, but I don’t think they’re the artist, although I think it’s in the same vein.

Does anyone recognize this song or band? I’m particularly interested in anyone who was deeply familiar with the late-90s/early-2000s Christian alternative-rock scene, including smaller/independent labels.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Help me find this singer from 2008ish

I'm looking for a Christian singer/songwriter whose music I downloaded from their website in around 2008 and have since lost. It was sung by a woman, guitar and drums, and generally had a driving rhythm.

One song went "...horse and rider you have hurled into the sea. And you reign forever, yes you reign forever, Lord you reign forever on high x2".

I think the same author also wrote a song with the lyrics "The morning star, my sword and shield, lily of the valley, my living word..."

I don't remember the rest of the lyrics. A couple more half-remembered songs:

"the truth of your word says that I am forgiven. The truth of your word says that I am set free. ... The truth of your word says you're Living in me. You see me through the blood of the lamb. Clothed in his righteousness it's by grace that I am standing here, knowing I'm forgiven".

And yet another song goes "clap your hands all you people, shout to God with shouts of joy. How awesome is the lord most high, the great king over all the earth"

Any ideas, anyone? I think her name might have been Carol, but I'm not 100% on that

Best live Christian artists to see

I recently got into Christian music and am very interested in which artists are currently the best/most popular to see live. I travel frequently for work and love to see live music/shows in different cities when I can. For example I'm considering going to see Chris Tomlin when I'm in LA soon.

Who are currently the can't miss Christian music and worship artists to see live? Thanks!

Discussion Thoughts about song lyrics?

This is a multi part discussion. My church sang "this is amazing grace" by Phil Wickham yesterday and I was paying attention to where the lyrics say "that you would bear my cross"...it occurred to me that i don't think that's exactly what happened. Jesus bore our sins on the cross and paid the price. But he also instructs us to take up OUR OWN cross daily. Am i overthinking this? What are your thoughts?

On the subject of church music, has anyone here been keeping up with Jonathan Allen Wright's series which has shown how the entire church/worship music machine is just that: a machine. Owned and operated by non believers marketing top 40 as a product to get licensing fees paid by churches etc. has it made you feel kind of...well...gross to sing these songs in church?

Last question: am I just bitter or jaded? No need to be harsh in responding to this one😅

Hey everyone. I released a new collaborative album yesterday that I made with a few friends. The songs are based on literature published in the Snickle Journal, a magazine made for and by Catholic young adults. Thought I’d share my favorite track from it here. Enjoy!

Discussion Secular music as a christain

So i wanna ask do I have to listen to like boring christain music or non word music because I mostly like music that has some cussing or a lot of it because it can actually get me hyped or my head bopping and most other Christian music I just cant get into...its basic...and thats usually a problem unless the beat is really good or the voice is good...but usually its just a rinse and repeat
