Etiquette Spider-Man IRL Thoughts?

Post image

I’ve been going out in my local neighborhood as Spider-Man. (in a pretty cool suit) Taking pictures with people, saying hi to passing cars, interacting with people in character, making people laugh. I’m also a Photographer! (like peter). I enjoy doing it because it makes people happy and makes me fulfill my dream of being Spider-Man (without the webs/swinging).
I want to know what do you guys think of this? I think it’s great but I do have to question my safety because who knows who i’ll run into.

Prop Working with Worbla Transpart?

I’m working on a Cendrillmon cosplay, and for her chest and mask, I wanted to work with Worbla Transpart to make hollow “cavities” for her chest and mask so I can add in the roses and leaves inside. And it’s certainly going… in a direction lol

So far it’s been going okay, but my issue is I can NOT find barely any damn resources about how to work with this stuff. I’ve figured out I can use an EVA foam base and mold the mask bits around that, and combine stretching it down with heat proof gloves on and using a wet sponge to smooth out any bumps. But I’m still heavily struggling, and I was hoping someone could help me out. 😭

A.) How do I glue these pieces together? I’ve tried making edges to fold over and glue along with straight up glue around the edges, but NOTHING will stick. UV resin, hot glue, Gorilla Glue brand super glue, and to top it off it won’t stick to itself. I’ve heard talks of a soldering iron, but I’m not quite sure if that’s a brilliant idea lol. I need to find a way to keep it clear, ESPECIALLY for the front mask piece.

B.) What methods can I use to mold my chest pieces? I’m not quite sure how to make an EVA foam “mold” for this part, since the base layer I’ve been gently molding to my chest, and then the outer layer I’ve been basically stuffing a sports bra with hand towels to mold around.

I’ve been considering other materials at this point, due to how much I’ve wasted and how expensive this stuff is… Resin is definitely off the table, and would probably end up being even more pricey than this stuff lol.

Thank y’all so much in advance, and if any additional photos would help I’d be happy to show em :)

My 12 year old wants to cosplay Squirrel Girl

Hi! My 12 year old daughter wants to try and make a Squirrel Girl cosplay based on a... combination of the three versions attached. I'm... very limited in my abilities, though I've made costumes through the years, I can't sew so my cosplays end up being kind of... piece meal from parts I find separately.

Any suggestions for this? You'll help me be the best dad in the world?

What can I use to make the stripes?

Me and my brother are making a deltarune cosplay for a con next week (we have 12 days to finish it).

I’ve thrifted this shirt that seems new and unused, that is almost the exact same color of the character’s one (last pic). Like you see, I only need to do the yellow stripes, and I was wondering if you have some advice on how I can do them without ruining the shirt (since is new and is the only one I’ve found perfect for the character).

I was thinking about using felt and safety pins to put them in place, but idk how much they would last or be comfortable for my brother. Or also to use some type of lasting tape for clothes so they would be removable and won’t ruin the shirt.

I also considered using acrylic paint and just do them, but I’m scared to ruin the fabric since, even if I usually paint, I never did it on a shirt.

I also thought about sewing the felt on it, but I don’t have a sewing machine and I have to do it hand sewing (I already did something similar with my Noelle cosplay, and it took so much time, the felt was too rigid for the fabric I had and putting that sweater was difficult. Idk if I should risk also with this one)

Any advice are welcome, thank you for reading!

Sewing Need help planning out my Beast Boy cosplay

Hello!! I’m freshly new with sewing, still learning the basics. I was having a hard time trying to plan the top and bottom (not making a body suit, instead making two separate pieces). I was trying to find patterns for a mock turtle neck, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to add the pink rectangle thing he has in the middle of his top. Aswell with the pants, i’m also unsure how to add the pink shorts. Any tips or advice? Comic con is in 10 days 😵‍💫

Prop Looking to find a resource to make a custom Captain America shield?

Hi, everyone!

Currently in the process of working on a Captain America cosplay using the colors of the transgender flag. “CapTRANS America” most likely will be wearing to a con, and a pride event next year. I want to go all out, and I am having difficulty finding somewhere that could help me make a custom Pink, White and Blue shield to match the rest of the cosplay. Thank you for your help, if anyone has any resources! I’m willing to pay a pretty high price.

Prop Help with Captain America Sheild

Does anyone know how I would be able to make a Captain America shield like this for a cosplay/halloween costume? It’s for the “Bucky rescue Cap suit” I’m making but I don’t 100% know how to go about making it.

I was thinking maybe finding a plastic tub and cutting it to shape or maybe buying a metal sheet or something but I’m not sure if it would work.

I’ve seen people reuse medieval Sheild but all the one I can find are either foam, too expensive, the wrong shape, isn’t smooth, or from some extremely obscure site that I’m not comfortable buying from.

I also have a time from I need the Sheild before October 5 so it bing done a week in advance would be nice.

If anyone has anyone please let me know any help is appreciated.

Sewing Help choosing a sewing machine

Hi everyone! I've been sewing for just over a year (but pretty much non stop lol) and I've been using my mum's Lucznik 438 from 1985, but as I'm moving out I'm in search of a machine of my own. I'm currently looking at second hand machines as I don't want to spend too much.

Right now I'm sewing all kinds of things: cosplays, casual clothes, corsets using all types of fabric from silk and organza to thick upholstery? fabric, you can see some of my works in the first photo.

I've heard that older machines are supposed to be better because of their metal parts, but I also want the pretty decorative stitches that newer models offer, I feel like I'd use them, even though I know technically I only "need" straight and zigzag stitches.

Here are some of the machines I've been eyeing and I'd love some feedback, but any other suggestions are more than welcome too!

The brother nx200 is being sold by a sewing machine technician in the city I'm moving to so I'm guessing it should be in great condition as he says.

The singer brilliance 6180 is in a city farther away which is not really a problem but I've read some not too great reviews about it that have me wondering if it's worth the money.

The pink Singer 2002 (I think) had me really excited and I almost decided on it but the seller isn't very cooperative and when I asked if the machine works and has its accessories like a pedal at least they just said that everything is shown in the photos and this is the only photo that shows the machine, the others are close-ups of the Singer logo and after farther questions they just said it comes with a case and a cable and I'm suspecting they just got it from a flea market and don't actually care or know anything about it and I was also planning on going to one too to check if I find anything.

Sorry for the long post and thank you in advance to anyone that comments!

tldr: help me choose a decent not too expensive sewing machine for all kinds of projects

Armor Spandex Bodysuit alternative

Hey all! I wanna cosplay ‘97 Magneto for a convention in October and was wondering if there was an alternative to spandex bodysuits that has a little more thickness and texture? Because the design is quite bare bones in lots of ways, I thought just cutting the arms off a regular bodysuit might just leave the design looking a bit underwhelming.

I was thinking maybe I could alter a wetsuit? I don’t know how that’ll take to dying or huge seam adjustments.

Luckily flexibility isn’t as much of an issue without the arm so if anyone knows I skin-tight suit that could help make this design work, I would really appreciate it!

Buying Spider-Man Mask Recommendations

Hello all! First time poster here!

I am in search for a good budget friendly spider man (Peter Parker) mask. My partner and I are planning on cosplaying Spider Man and Black Cat. The mask that came with the suit I got just feels so suffocating (it doesn’t help that it’s built into the suit) any recommendations / links? I’ve also heard face shells work wonders so if you guys have any good links for those as well!

Sewing Help with choosing a sewing machine

Upvotes

Hi,

I've been cosplaying for about 2 years and I've always sewn by hand, now I've been considering buying a sewing machines to be more precise and efficient.

I've never had nor touched a sewing machine in my entire life and I really dont know what to look for, my budget is €150 ($174), can anyone give me some suggestions?

For reference I'm into medieval cosplays with long skirts and dresses, I also use a lot of embroidery (which I often buy already done but it would be cool if I could make it myself).

Red Hood Helmet mounting/securing

Thumbnail

A while back, I bought and sent a 3D model to my brother that he was kind enough to print for me for a Red Hood helmet. I got very excited when he shipped it to me and immediately set to work on painting it.

It’s since just been a bit of a show piece on a shelf, but after attending FanExpo this year, I’ve decided I’d like to turn it into a full cosplay and have found and will be going through some experimenting with guides and tutorials to make the armour with EVA foam.

That said, I’m having trouble finding good guidance on how to comfortably and reliably work the inside of this helmet to be secure on my head. I need to redo the magnets for the back piece but could really use some recos on having it sit well on my head.

Thanks in advance for any help! This will be my (possibly over reaching) first cosplay making attempt. But I have a whole year so… fingers crossed?
