My 12 year old wants to cosplay Squirrel Girl

Hi! My 12 year old daughter wants to try and make a Squirrel Girl cosplay based on a... combination of the three versions attached. I'm... very limited in my abilities, though I've made costumes through the years, I can't sew so my cosplays end up being kind of... piece meal from parts I find separately.

Any suggestions for this? You'll help me be the best dad in the world?

Sewing Help with choosing a sewing machine

Upvotes

Hi,

I've been cosplaying for about 2 years and I've always sewn by hand, now I've been considering buying a sewing machines to be more precise and efficient.

I've never had nor touched a sewing machine in my entire life and I really dont know what to look for, my budget is €150 ($174), can anyone give me some suggestions?

For reference I'm into medieval cosplays with long skirts and dresses, I also use a lot of embroidery (which I often buy already done but it would be cool if I could make it myself).

Red Hood Helmet mounting/securing

A while back, I bought and sent a 3D model to my brother that he was kind enough to print for me for a Red Hood helmet. I got very excited when he shipped it to me and immediately set to work on painting it.

It’s since just been a bit of a show piece on a shelf, but after attending FanExpo this year, I’ve decided I’d like to turn it into a full cosplay and have found and will be going through some experimenting with guides and tutorials to make the armour with EVA foam.

That said, I’m having trouble finding good guidance on how to comfortably and reliably work the inside of this helmet to be secure on my head. I need to redo the magnets for the back piece but could really use some recos on having it sit well on my head.

Thanks in advance for any help! This will be my (possibly over reaching) first cosplay making attempt. But I have a whole year so… fingers crossed?

Makeup Doing a maki cosplay

Upvotes

Hello! I’m wanting to do a maki cosplay and wanted to know how to do her scars. I’m not really trying to do anything crazy but I want it there. Does anyone have a good tutorial that’s comfortable? And easy to do to yourself? And what kind of material should I get? Body paint? A powder?

Edit: This is specifically for Maki from JJK! I forgot to specify which character I would add a reference photo but I cannot add one after posting this.

My son wants to do a cosplay level Halloween costume, what do I do?

Note: if this post is not allowed, I am sorry moderators.

My son wants to do a Halloween costume of pyramid head this year. He has made it very clear that he wants it to be as canonical to the character as possible with the amount of time we have left.

I already have the template and ideas for how I am going to execute the head piece. My two questions are a) can I use mesh for over the eye holes so he can still see or is there a better alternative? and b) how would any of you go about attaching it to his head so he can walk around with it, with at least some comfort?

Makeup Makeup Advice (Newbie)

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve NEVER used makeup properly before, last time I used anything was when I was when I was 6, And I’m HEAVILY REGRETTING IT NOW. I don’t know a thing about makeup, I tried today with some random eyeshadow from the dollarstore, I thought it would be easy (ITS NOT) I just put it on my eyelids and I looked like a disaster, and when I finally cleaned it up, it still looked odd.
Never Used Foundation

Eyeliner

ANYTHING

Begging for help.

Trying to look like MaoMao from “The Apothecary Diaries”

I’m willing to practice 🥹

I need advice from people with experience, or expert makeup artists or cosplayers❤️❤️❤️

Armor Armor transportation advice

Thumbnail

I'm loading up from dragon con, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to transport this for a 10-ish mile drive plus getting it up into the room. If I use totes, the legs would have to stay out, and then it would take an additional 3 or 4 totes, and the one with the torso would have to be lid-less.

Has anyone transported armor wrapped onto an armor stand/mannequin? I'm thinking of just boxing the helmet and more fragile parts which I've already removed, and then moving it as is on a dolly, possibly secured with painters tape and or wrapped in a sheet or something.

Thoughts? I feel like it's a good idea but this is only my 2nd armor.

Wore this wig to a convention before I knew about crimping and proper techniques, now I need it for another one. Is it salvageable or would it be better to buy a new one?

Wig Really struggling with my wig

I’m having massive problems with styling my wig. I am pretty new to cosplaying - this is my second ever cosplay and on the first one the wig looked really bad, however I didn’t care because it was my first time. This time, I want to actually make a decent cosplay, and I am happy with 90% of it - the whole outfit, the accessories, the makeup - the wig just makes it look so stupid. I definitely need a wig in this cosplay for the character to be recognisable, but the colour (ginger) looks unnatural against my yellow tinted skin tone, the fringe is far too big and I can’t get it out of the way, and the top of the wig looks massive around my head due to my relatively thick hair under the wig cap. Does anyone have any advice on how to make it look better in general? Thank you so much!

Really bumpy

So ive put foam clay ontop of cardboard to combat the warping (as seen in red) but the cardboard isnt layered. Now in the second picture ive put foam clay ontop of normal heatsealed eva foam (as seen in green). My issue is that once I applied some mod podge onto the green its really emphasised the bumps and im not sure if it will do that to everything circled in purple. I have sanded down everything inside purple but alot of it cant be sanded down further due to it only being a thin layer of foam clay. Is there any way to fix everything in purple so it doesnt turn out like in green?

What can I use to make the stripes?

Me and my brother are making a deltarune cosplay for a con next week (we have 12 days to finish it).

I’ve thrifted this shirt that seems new and unused, that is almost the exact same color of the character’s one (last pic). Like you see, I only need to do the yellow stripes, and I was wondering if you have some advice on how I can do them without ruining the shirt (since is new and is the only one I’ve found perfect for the character).

I was thinking about using felt and safety pins to put them in place, but idk how much they would last or be comfortable for my brother. Or also to use some type of lasting tape for clothes so they would be removable and won’t ruin the shirt.

I also considered using acrylic paint and just do them, but I’m scared to ruin the fabric since, even if I usually paint, I never did it on a shirt.

I also thought about sewing the felt on it, but I don’t have a sewing machine and I have to do it hand sewing (I already did something similar with my Noelle cosplay, and it took so much time, the felt was too rigid for the fabric I had and putting that sweater was difficult. Idk if I should risk also with this one)

Any advice are welcome, thank you for reading!

Sewing Need help planning out my Beast Boy cosplay

Post image

Hello!! I’m freshly new with sewing, still learning the basics. I was having a hard time trying to plan the top and bottom (not making a body suit, instead making two separate pieces). I was trying to find patterns for a mock turtle neck, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to add the pink rectangle thing he has in the middle of his top. Aswell with the pants, i’m also unsure how to add the pink shorts. Any tips or advice? Comic con is in 10 days 😵‍💫

1.) Has anyone seen/have pics of a custom with the steel blue color? That's the color of the middle color palette, and I'm concerned it might be too colorful IRL

2.) Which color scheme do you people think looks best?

Accessory Spider-Man Cosplayers! What's the best way to mask up?

I've cosplayed Spider-Folk before, Bombastic Bagman and OG Scarlet Spider, but have never needed a *proper* Peter Parker Spider-Man mask until now. What is the best path forward if I am looking for a decent mask that leans more comic inspired than MCU? I'm not wanting to spend $200 on a display ready replica, but I'm not limited to Spirit Halloween level either. I would like to prioritize visibility if possible, for Scarlet I had magnetic lenses I could pop off as needed and that was a solid way to walk around if needed in high traffic areas. Thanks!
