Fringe has come and gone. And so have the flyerers. But this year I made it through the whole of August without being given a single flyer when walking around the city. And considering I live in old town and every time I left the flat there were flyerers everywhere, I'm pretty impressed I haven't accumulated a small trees worth of plasicy paper like I do most years.

A sculpture made from over 100,000 blades seized by police, with each blade representing a life affected.
This thought-provoking piece by Alfie Bradley will be at the Foot of the Walk in for the next four weeks.

How are your crops looking this year?
Mine are at least three weeks behind last year. I've had cherries available to pick for maybe a couple of weeks now but even although we're now into September and approaching the end times, my full sized crimson crushes are only beginning to ripen now.
This is a bit annoying because, as I was saying, last year I was getting these weeks before and able to make pasta sauces with them long before now.
This is only my third year of growing them, so I'm wondering what other people's experiences in Edinburgh has been over the years - Have we just had a particularly bad year this year (my feeling was that we got nowhere near as much sunshine around Easter time on into June)? Or is this more typical and I just got lucky last year?
I've also had a problem with the bigger tomatoes also getting blossom end rot - again not something I had in the previous two years.
Obviously this is very dependent on our particular weather here in Edinburgh hence why I'm asking - Would love to hear if anyone else had issues this year or whether I've just been unlucky...

So whilst I have a full time job £32000 now and can afford the first 3 months of rent I am still in a bit of a situation. First of all I live in Port Glasgow and want to move to Edinburgh (been working here past 5 years) in city centre which is already endlessly competitive. I am not adverse to living in cheaper areas however would rather not live in a complete dive as it is no better than my current situation. My issue is due to this being my first rental I have no references at all and have been living in a council house with my relatives. On top of this my family and relatives are not willing and either can’t or do not feel comfortable being a guarantor.
How am I actually supposed to rent. I can afford it but the endless requirements are my main issue. Can someone give me a roadmap of what I could and should do

Hi! So I recently moved to central Edinburgh and had an abismal experience as an NHS patient with Bellevue Dentist Practice.
From the moment I sat down, my dentist was pushing expensive dental work at me, fear mongering saying I had major issues just in order to try to make me buy £700 invisalign or really expensive products. She also said that it was a matter of life or death if « a young girl like me » didn’t get the MOST EXPENSIVE scale and polish. I told her I was on a budget from the get go but she was relentless.
She told me I was brushing too hard and then proceeded to take a hack and saw at my gums when giving me a clean.
I am extremely uncomfortable now, and refuse to go back.
Does anyone recommend a good practice that hasn’t completely been overtaken by private corporations that are trying to syphon money out of patients ?
I am a recent uni grad and cannot afford ridiculously expensive healthcare. All I wanted was a checkup.
I know most of them are like this, but if you have any good recommendations let me know :)

Like many, many people and businesses I’ve missed the trams after the Princes Street fire running down to Leith. Wild how much you take stuff for granted
Like this view when you get it at Newhaven in the morning

As title says, accidentally drove over the old forth road bridge tonight, driving back from airport and few roads closed. Somehow managed to turn onto the old bridge. Anyone know if I’ll be fined/ have points received etc? Cheers!

Hi, I’m looking for any recommendations for a shop or a guy who can fix or replace the interior screen of an iMac?
A While ago we were watching a movie and I pinched the top corner of the iMac to adjust it and it just went completely black, sound and everything was still working. I’m not a tech guy so there is probably more issues caused than I realise so if anyone knows any Tech savvy guys or a good shop in town I’d appreciate it.

Did this for Glasgow last week so here's the Edinburgh one.
NHS Inform will show you where dentists are but not who's actually got space. Public Health Scotland put out how many patients each practice has every quarter though, so I compared December's file with March's. If a list went up, someone was getting registered.
82 of Lothian's 170 practices grew. These ones had the wider area growing as well, so it's not just folk being shunted over from somewhere that shut:
103 Dental & Implant Practice, EH7 +500
Ripple Dental, EH3 +376
61 East Main Street, West Lothian +346
Midlothian Dental Practice, Dalkeith +323
Newkirkgate Dental Care, EH6 +253
147 Bruntsfield Place, EH10 +243
Corstorphine's gone the other way, the practice on St John's Road is down 1,936.
Worth saying March is the newest file that exists so it's already five months old, and it's a net figure so a practice could've taken 300 on and lost 200. A big jump can also just mean they're swamped now. You still have to phone round, it's only a shorter list to phone.
Every board's on here: scotwaits.uk/dentists

Mirroring the Save The Roseburn Path email structure with different arguments.
How you can help
Please take a few minutes to email a councillor on the Transport and Environment Committee before the meeting on 10 September, when they'll decide whether to develop the business case.
In your email, ask them to act on the message from the representative and the city-wide survey results. Among those with a view, roughly 2:1 were in favour of the tram to Granton, which will be home to thousands more people according to the City Council plans of low car development.
The more councillors hear from residents and supporters ahead of the meeting, the stronger the message will be that the fast and efficient public transport must be expanded.
Please email a councillor today and help to develop Edinburgh. https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/mgCommitteeMailingList.aspx?ID=136
Thank you for your support.

Hi! I lost a journal around 20th-25th August at 07:40-08:05, between the High Riggs and Port Hamilton bus stops. It’s a purple leather bound journal with orange stitching/binding and the initials CH engraved on the lower right corner of the front cover. It also has a charm attached to the front binding with a name engraved on one side. I don’t have any exact pictures but I’ve attached some of the exact colour way from the website.
The journal itself is easily replaceable however the charm attached is of really high sentimental value so if I got this back I would be so so grateful!!

Hi all, looking for recommendations for a reliable end of tenancy cleaner or company for the end of September.
If you've had a experience with anyone local recently, I'd really appreciate the shoutout.

I have a very small en-suite (less than 4 sqm). I have designed and selected all of the fittings and tiles myself, which I will supply.
Current bathroom layout is staying the same.
I have gotten a couple of costs from fitters in Edinburgh and they are quoting 6-9k for labour costs only!! To remove and refit.
Is this normal?!! To me this seems an absolutely insane price and into the 10s of thousands once you add product for a room the size of a cupboard.

I’ve got a 15-year-old car with a bit of sill rust that I want to sort out. I can MIG weld, so doing the actual repair isn’t a problem.
The problem is that I don’t have a driveway or garage where I can work on the car.
I’ve had a look online for garages/workshops in Edinburgh that you can rent for DIY car repairs, but I’m struggling to find anything. I’m not looking for someone to do the work for me — I just need somewhere I can bring the car and work on it myself, ideally somewhere covered where I can weld.
For those of you who work on your own cars but don’t have a driveway, where do you go? Are there any DIY garages, workshops, rented spaces, or similar places in/around Edinburgh that I’m missing?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Great way to block the pathway. Another obstacle course in city centre.

Hi! Do any of you know why there’s a helicopter circling around the Blackford/Mayfield area tonight? It’s been flying for quite a while, which feels unusual for this time of night — around 23:30.

Hi there, looking for a tattoo artist who is good at baroque style tattoos. Not done the biggest of research yet but figured this would be a decent place to start
