Discussion Gaming on fedora

I just tried for the last months to make Fedora my main gaming platform for non-anticheat games. No more.
Too much trouble when i am anyway dual - booting.
I tried the following:
- FH 6 - constantly crash

- Mortal Shell 2 - almost immediately crash

- lords of the fallen - flawlessly

- Crimson Desert - awful stutters

- Final Fantasy VII rebirth - decent

- Dragonsword Awakening - stutters(that was weird as it is not very demanding)

- Granblue fantasy - decent

So i have one flawless, two decent and three awful experiences, and this after tweaking compatibility and launch commands.

it is just too much trouble for a system that is a dual-boot.
Sorry to say it, but at this point in time is just easier to use windows as a game launcher or game console.
i am running a system with an intel i7 12700 CPU and a NVIDIA 4080 super GPU, so power is not an issue. nvidia probably is.

Was thinking to switch to another distro for gaming, but not sure cachy OS will have less issues, and i really don't want to run bazzite, even if it performs better, which i am not convinced of.

So yeah, that is about it.

My time is limited, so i don't want to spend my time tweaking , i prefer just gaming.

And before you ask, yes, i followed all the steps to be game-ready, drivers, mangohud and whatnot.

I just install Goverlay as local rpm file from the devs github, but fedora downgrade it to 1.7.5 from 1.9 through software updates.

How can I make it stop?

Support Anyone successfully running Brave on F44+ Plasma+ Wayland+ Nvidia 580 + GTX1000 ?

I'm having a very hard time getting Brave (the browser) to run properly on F44, Plasma, Wayland, Nvidia 580 drivers and GTX 1070 or 1080 video cards.

I'd love to hear from someone who has it working properly.

Thanks

Support Proglem with geolocation

Hello,

For so long I haven't been able to fix the geolocation service on my Lenovo Legion 5 with Fedora Linux. I was trying to switch to the BeaconDB service, but my laptop was always showing the internet provider's location instead of mine. One day I managed to find settings that fixed this problem.

Here they are (other settings are set to default value):

  • GeoIP enable = false
  • Network NMEA enable = false
  • Modem GPS enable = false
  • The most important: uncomment url to use Positon geolocation service

I hope it will help you :)

Support So close to switching for gaming on PC... but there's still one thing I can't get to work properly...

Hi all,

I have now spent the last 7 years dual booting Fedora and Windows: I use Fedora (previously Debian) for everyday work and only use Windows to play games.

I have tried Bazzite, CachyOS and some other distros, and I feel like Fedora is now mature enough for me to try and completely ditch Windows (good riddance). I would like to start from a basic Fedora minimal install, as I usually do.

The only thing stopping me from switching to Fedora is the audio management. I have an Audio Tehcnica bluetooth headset (ATH-M50xBT2) and an AT2020USB+ usb microphone I use for podcasting and it's a PAIN for me to use them.

For example, the bluetooth headset also has an integrated microphone and it seems I can't deactivate only the microphone with the gnome / KDE interface (I can do that on Windows)... This is a pain because some games would automatically choose the headset microphone instead of the podcast one.

Is there something I am missing? Are there better tools to use for audio interfaces?

Thank you !

Support Jellyfin on Fedora gone?

for the longest time instead of using my jellyfin on a web browser i had a jellyfin client installed on my computer from software. i was doing some maintenance on the server and decided to test it by deleting and reinstalling my client (was doing cosmetic changes) and when i searched for it in software it was just gone. no app found. i never really thought of it cause it had always been there. it was just a web browser jellyfin client but on your pc. more widespread compatibility with media forms compared to the web browser which made direct play more common. now its randomly just gone from the software store? any ideas?

Discussion Fedora KDE… second steps

Built a new rig and set up a dual boot (W*ndows just for unsupported games), installed rpm with codecs, as well as a few apps and all the basics.

Everything has been running smoothly so far and really love the performance of Fedora!

Now I feel like it’s time to throw some wrenches in my gears

I want to fully immerse myself in the Linux/KDE experience and feel true freedom

What are some steps I can take to learn the full capabilities to customize my Fedora and utilize the Linux kernel in general?

Adversity is welcome as a beginner coming from W*ndows

So, i switched from Windows to Fedora KDE today and I’m pretty much a complete beginner when it comes to Linux.
I’ve got the basics working and I’m slowly setting everything up, but I’m wondering what you guys recommend doing after a fresh Linux install.

Discussion Is HDMI VRR working for RPMFusion Nvidia drivers?

Is HDMI VRR working for RPMFusion Nvidia drivers? The title mostly says it all. 3060 Tis are about the same price as 6600 XTs on eBay. While the AMD will of course be more seamless to set up (driver, SecureBoot, etc.), the Nvidia steps ahead - and sometimes significantly - in benchmarks. This'll be for a television rig so just want to confirm HDMI VRR work as some reports indicate issues. Thanks for your input!

Edit: I know AMD HDMI VRR isn't due until later this year though.

I am using Fedora 44 Workstation edition, I have an Intel CPU with integrated graphics, and I'm using niri as my windows manager. The laptop i'm using is a ROG Zephyrus. I have installed the drivers using the dnf package manager. When I run nvidia-smi, it returns that it's only using the GPU for niri. I have installed envycontrol to use the nvidia GPU only and says I am, but when I go to play a game on steam or boot up minecraft, it still uses the iGPU. I am lost and relatively new to linux, do you guys have anything I could try to get it to work?

Support Help disabling full disk encryption

Trying to disable encryption on my machine, I think I'm just not understanding what the device name is asking for? I used lsblk to show devices, then used what I thought might be the name with cryptsetup luksRemoveKey, but every input returned "does not exist or acess denied."

I've got a Lenovo Ideapad 5, I have to turn off the encryption so I can live boot Windows and update the BIOS (because for some reason I can't seem to get a zip to flash an ISO anywhere for my model)

In case it's not abundantly obvious, I'm a little new to this lol.
