Owner of Local Birth Center Arrested on Felony Charges

I have had a number of people reach out on Reddit about my and my wife's experiences at Tender Gifts Birth Center based upon my comment history. Today, the owner, Althea Hrdlichka, and a staff member, Brecklen Ables, were arrested on felony charges for tampering with evidence and forgery (owner, only). The Lexis Nexis case records also indicate multiple charges for attempting to influence a public servant, which aren't reflected in the booking report. It is my understanding that these charges stem from an investigation related to the death of an infant born at their facility last year.

Needless to say, I would strongly discourage anyone from using this facility for prenatal, birth, postpartum, or pediatric care.

Bike polo

Upvotes

I met somebody at the end of TDF that was riding their Polo bike. Pretty sure I tried to exchange numbers (enjoyed the brewery a bit) and cannot recall what name I saved in my phone, or may not have hit save. Just looking to play my favorite game. Where y'all at?

Avoid College South of Mulberry and lane threading was a bad idea

Approximately 505 PM today: Motorcycle went down on S bound College Ave just before Prospect, the rider looked ok. But, far as I can tell the accident was the result of lane threading gone wrong. Why in thee hell is this a legal maneuver?

Edit: Filtering not threading

She ran away from her new home after being there only a day. Last seen near Willox and Lemay. She is very skittish. If you see her, please call and try to keep her in sight without chasing! Thanks for any leads

I see this too often. I hung back a little because this SUV started to take this super wide arc & was worried an oncoming vehicle would hit it.

Boulder is having its first local filmmakers showcase next week! 🎬

In collaboration with the Boulder County Film Commission, we are starting a monthly “Local Lens” short film showcase to create a space for all the Front Range filmmakers to screen their work, meet other creatives in the community, and talk about the process behind making their films.

The theme of the showcase next week is New Beginnings and will include a short film from Boulder-based adventurer and filmmaker Ryan Van Duzer.

Every movie will be followed by a brief Q&A with the filmmaker.

Date: Wednesday, September 9

Time: 5:30 – 7:30 PM

Location: Boulder Marriott

Submissions are officially open. If you would like to screen your work at an upcoming showcase, submit your film here: https://forms.gle/G4hAkXjScWyK89xn6

In Fort Collins - 3 weeks for work. What should a visitor actually do with the time?

Post image

Hey r/FortCollins, gonna be in your town for 3 weeks for work and I want to actually live it, not just work and crash at the hotel every night. I want to do something local, feel the town, the vibe there, so far I've done a little homework, but I'd rather hear it from people who actually live here.

I know FoCo is a serious beer town, so breweries are top of the list. Got New Belgium, Odell, Horse & Dragon and Funkwerks on my radar already. Past that I've got Old Town pegged for the evenings, the Larimer County Farmers Market on Saturdays (heard it's the 50th year), and Horsetooth for a hike when I need to get out of my own head.

That's about where my list runs dry. Weeknights are free and I've got 2 weekends open, so I want to fill the gaps with the stuff locals actually rate.

Quick side note: after work wraps I've got 4 days before I fly out of DEN, so I'm renting a car and running a loop up over Trail Ridge to Grand Lake, then down to Ouray, Black Canyon, and Salida before heading back to Denver.

So here's what I'm asking:

1. Fort Collins — what am I sleeping on? Breweries worth it vs the tourist traps, a low key eat that isn't on every top 10 list, any live music/events/festivals over the next 3-4 weeks.

2. The loop — did I miss anything? Any stop worth a detour, or one you'd swap out.

Feel free to pass on any suggestions if you have, TBH, new in town and would be happy to have some company!

Have a great week ahead! Thanks for reading! ❤️

Woman on far left is from the Sundance Film Festival; middle is the movie's director Padraic McKinley; far right is the film's lead actress Julia Jones.

Despite the intermittent rain 🌧️, no one left early. Looking forward to seeing the film again once it opens in a few weeks.

CSU Football tickets are insanely overpriced for a team that went 2-10 last season

Thought I'd take my family to see the game this weekend, and the cheapest seats are currently $101. There are literally hundreds of empty seats. No way in hell I'm paying $400 to watch the Rams get blown out by Wyoming again this year.

Edit: adding an image

Cat stuff

My Murphy Cat (her full name) passed away on Friday.. she was an IBD cat and so had special food. I have 2 almost full bags of Z/D & H/P dry food. As well as a Petkit auto litter box, and petkit dual feed auto feeder w/cam. Both are great for monitoring special kitties. Idk how to post pics but all are free to a home in need, and I will provide pics via sms/dm. Food will get donated otherwise. litterbox is the purobot(not sure the model) feeder is the yumshare dual hopper w/cam. Sorry if wrong spot, just a grieving cat dad trying to help.

Discussion Opinion] The unintended consequences of 110 that nobody’s talking about

This op-ed from the heads of One Colorado and Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains raises a point that genuinely surprised me: they argue that 110 as written is so broadly worded that it could affect care for minors with reproductive organ cancers, including cervical or testicular cancer. That seems like something everyone should be able to look at and evaluate, regardless of how they feel about the underlying issue.

They also note that 109's enforcement language is vague enough that it could open the door to kids being singled out based on how they look — too tall, too strong, wrong haircut. That part should concern any parent in Fort Collins whose kid plays sports, even if your kid isn't trans.

The main argument from the authors is: regardless of where you stand on the issue, the specific text of these measures deserves more scrutiny than it's gotten.

Discussion Verizon service issues?

Has anyone on Verizon been experiencing horrible reception lately? I used to get great coverage all over town and now nothing ever seems to load unless I’m home on WiFi.

Doesn’t even seem to be a location issue either because I’ll be in the same spot and my service will fluctuate between one and five bars at random.

I'm starting the process of getting a new tattoo in the next year or so. Right now, I'm looking for local Fort Collins artists to follow on Instagram and get a sense of their work. Please share your favorite artists or shops so I can start exploring who would be the best match

Reading Club Meetup

Hi! I have seen a few posts lately about people looking to make friends or looking to find or start a book club. Whenever people mention that they enjoy books, I throw out The FoCo Reading Club, but I've never made a post about it...sooooo....if you enjoy books and reading, there is a Fort Collins Reading Club that meets a few times a month that would love to have you!

The next meetup is at Equinox on Sept 02 from 6-8.

What is a reading club? It's a bookish social club! You can meet and hang out with other people who enjoy books and then you can also bring whatever book you are currently reading. We do an hour of reading time in the midst of the hangout. We also do popup events like trivia, our soon-to-be-first Audiobook Walk, and there's a newsletter where I do my best to gather and share all of the local upcoming book-related happenings around town.

We were recently featured in The Rocky Mountain Collegian

And have a website for people who are not on socials, and if you are on socials, I share everything most reliably on IG (foco_readingclub)
