I'm currently putting together a teaching resource for primary school pupils about different scripts/orthographies around the world. The task has 18 translations of 'languages are amazing/incredible' in various languages which have differing scripts. I've checked the translations with multiple online translation tools, but I'm well aware that these do not always catch the nuanced points that native speakers can, hence why I wanted to post here for advice.

Would this be a suitable translation for Greek, or is there a better alternative?

I (22 F) am trying to learn Greek. I have had a tutor on a learning platform, but unfortunately I have decided to end the process due to him being weird and flirtatious. Most of the women on the app have prices above my budget (very good for them!)

Hence why I have decided to stop tutoring and try using the free online resources.

What channels/apps/websites do your recommend for learning?

I want to learn conversational, "street" Greek, but I also aim for learning the correct grammar and syntax. I have been watching some vlogs from a girl on youtube, subtitles on, and that's been helpful, but I want to expand my horizon.

Γειά σου I work for Greeks in construction as a site supervisor in Australia, we hire a lot of sub-contractors who have native Greeks with little to no English, I have to ask everyone to sign in on a app every morning and was wondering how I could ask this in Greek? My boss who is an Australian Greek couldn’t figure it out… wondering I could get some help here.

I got this many years ago as a memorial to my mother who has since passed. She used to sing this Beatles song to me as a lullaby, and she was who I first visited Greece with as a teenager. I had a little Greek boyfriend there who translated the line for me but I’ve never actually known if it was correct. I’ve been back a dozen times since then but still don’t quite grasp the language. I’d like to get it touched up because it’s blown out now, but I want to make sure it’s actually correct before I do that. And if it’s not, how to fix it?

Hi all :)

After being with my partner and socialising with friends who are Greek, and going on holiday to Greecefor the last 4 years, I am finally going to try and learn the language with a real attempt.

In the past I tried using Duolingo, text books and language transfer individually but gave up - mainly out of my own laziness.

But this time, I want to give it a good and proper go.

My plan is:

- Tutor for 50 minutes once per week (i have already scheduled 5 lessons over the next few weeks with Preply)

- I have enquired and there's an adult Greek school in my city which offers 30 lessons over 3 terms

- Downloaded DuoLingo again (I dont like it though)

- Downloaded lamguagetransfer again (this is found really useful)

- Will find some Greek series to watch with English sub titles as well as English movies with dubbed Greek

Hopefully I can try and immerse myself with the language so everything sinks in. I have the advantage of having a Greek partner and friends so I can practice communicating and listening with them.

Any other suggestions feel free to let me know!

Hi everyone, I don’t speak a lick of Greek other than some basic words! But I’ve recently loved a song I found just going throughout online playlists of Greek folk music, one of which was Είσαι Της Καρδιάς Ο Χτύπος by Aggeliki Konitopoulou.

I love the instrumentation, but I wanted to know what was being said. My issue is, there’s only a handful of YouTube uploads of this song; none of which have lyrics provided or commented; I’ve even tried using closed captions and painstakingly copywriting what YouTube’s CC can pick up, but it’s largely a jumbled mess. I’ve tried googling online both English and Greek, and there’s no info or lyrics to be found about this song at all.

I don’t know if this sub is really appropriate for what I’m requesting, but it’s my last hope. If any Greek speakers could help me out I’d very much be thankful.

I'm a native English speaker learning Greek, struggling through the intermediate level. I'm looking for native Greek speakers willing to make audio recordings that I can use for listening practice. If all goes well, the recordings would eventually be published as part of a website for Greek learners.

The goal is interesting, natural Greek that's a little easier for an intermediate learner to follow than something like a fast native podcast.
