GTA VI Hot take: GTA 6 UI is actually great.
The amount of hate it's getting is crazy. What exactly were people expecting?
The game is set in Vice City. Rockstar had two options: make a UI that blends into the experience, or make it loud, colorful, and constantly fighting for your attention. I think they picked the right one.
A good UI is one you stop noticing after a while. An hour into the game, most players probably won't even notice it anymore. That's the whole point of UI.
Would people really prefer a neon Vice City-themed UI that looks more colorful than the game itself?

GTA VI Jason is “boring.”
Quick clarification: some people seem to think I’m saying Jason is boring. I am not saying that I’m quoting people who are saying that and trying to say there wrong. My b for misusing quotations.
A lot of people have been complaining about how Jason is very stale and bland and not as interesting as a character as previous gta’s. Am I the only person that sees Jason as actually more of a return to form than anything? Throughout every gta game except 5, the protagonist has always been the calm and level headed character while everyone around him is crazy and wacky. In almost every cutscene, Niko, CJ, Tommy, or even Claude always stayed more reserved while the character they were with like brucie or Roman or big smoke kept on yapping about random eccentric bullshit. Even other rockstar titles had similar protagonist behavior like john marston who was very direct and stoic or max payne who was fed up with everything around him. The only rockstar game where the protagnists were crazier and louder than the people around them was gta 5, mainly with Michael and Trevor. So if anything Jason is the most classic gta protagonist we could get.

GTA VI More GTA VI Details from TGG's Exclusive Rockstar Preview
Here are some more GTA VI details from TGG's latest video, mostly covering smaller features and things he learned while at Rockstar North that were not really shown or explained in the Extended Look. If you don't have time to watch the video, but have a 5 min read, this is for you.
As always, full credit to TGG for the information and to Rob Nelson for the details he shared with him.
Story Length
- Rob Nelson's own GTA VI playthrough took around 80+ hours.
- His playthrough included the campaign plus some optional objectives.
- Some optional objectives can have narrative consequences.
- TGG points out that this does not necessarily mean the main story itself is 80 hours.
- This particular information originally came from Rob Nelson's interview with The New York Times.
Map Size
- The map is around 2× the size of GTA V's.
- It is around 3× the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2.
- Vice City itself is around 2× the size of Los Santos.
- The built-up area outside Vice City is around 11× the built-up area outside Los Santos.
Map Shape
- TGG briefly saw the full map underneath the fog of war.
- He only saw it for around three seconds.
- He noticed what looked like an airport or possibly a military base in the Keys.
- TGG says he did not see a Florida-style panhandle.
- The airport/base identification is only TGG's recollection and not confirmed.
Performance
- TGG saw GTA VI running on a base PS5.
- The build he saw was running at 4K/30 FPS.
- It was not running on a PS5 Pro.
- TGG does not know whether a 60 FPS mode will be available at launch.
- Rockstar has not confirmed the final performance modes yet.
HUD
- The default HUD is designed to keep the screen relatively clean.
- Most HUD information disappears when it is not needed.
- Tapping down on the D-pad temporarily brings the HUD back.
- This includes cash, character stats and the minimap.
- A Classic mode can keep the minimap permanently visible.
- The minimap cannot actually be switched between 2D and 3D, correcting something TGG said in his previous video.
- A compass can be used instead of the minimap.
Quick Waypoints
- Quick waypoints can be created without opening the map.
- Hold down on the D-pad and press R3 to create one.
- Nearby points of interest can appear within your view while doing this.
- Setting a waypoint keeps the minimap visible.
- The full map can be opened directly with the PS5 touchpad.
- It can still be accessed normally through the pause menu.
Weather
- Rockstar says GTA VI has a lot of different weather.
- Rob Nelson would not reveal the specific weather systems yet.
Drive-Throughs
- Functional drive-throughs are confirmed.
- You can actually order food while using them.
- Food can provide temporary stat boosts.
- TGG personally watched Rob use a drive-through during the gameplay demonstration.
Restaurants
- TGG did not personally see someone enter a restaurant and order food.
- He believes enterable restaurants will probably allow it.
- This part is speculation rather than confirmed information.
Fast Travel
- Public transport can be used for fast travel.
- Bus stops appear on the minimap.
- NPCs can actually wait at bus stops.
- You can wait at a bus stop for a bus.
- Bus journeys can be skipped to fast travel.
- Trains are rideable.
- TGG could not confirm whether trains also support journey-skipping fast travel.
- Traditional taxis are available.
- RideMe provides another transport option.
- RideMe journeys can either be watched or skipped.
Shopping
- Items can physically be picked up from convenience-store shelves.
- You can then purchase those items.
- TGG watched Rob pick up and buy a six-pack of beer.
- The system is similar to shopping in RDR2.
- TGG describes it as a step up from RDR2's system.
- He did not see a full supermarket or shopping mall.
Streamer Mode
- GTA VI has a content-creator/streamer option.
- Copyrighted music can be filtered out.
- TGG personally saw Rockstar demonstrate the option.
- The feature is designed to make streaming and recording safer from copyright claims.
Photo Mode
- A Photo Mode is included.
- The camera can be moved around your character.
- Screenshots can be taken from different angles.
- TGG compares it with RDR2's Photo Mode.
Rockstar Editor
- TGG did not see a Rockstar Editor.
- He has no confirmation that Rockstar Editor will be available at launch.
- GTA V also did not originally launch with Rockstar Editor.
Cinematic Mode
- An RDR2-style cinematic mode returns.
- It can be used while travelling in vehicles.
- It works similarly to RDR2's cinematic horse-riding camera.
First-Person Mode
- TGG did not see first-person gameplay.
- He has no concrete information confirming first-person mode.
- Its availability at launch is currently unknown.
Zoo
- GTA VI has a zoo.
- The zoo can actually be visited.
- Animals at the zoo can be studied.
- Studying animals appears to contribute towards some kind of collection/checklist.
- Jason and Lucia can visit the zoo together.
- Visiting the zoo can count as a date.
- A zoo date can improve their relationship.
Phone
- The phone is now a physical object in the game.
- Jason and Lucia physically look at and use their phones.
- The phone is no longer simply a UI element appearing in the corner of the screen.
- Jason and Lucia have their own individual phones.
- Each character has their own apps and content.
Social Media
- Posts on the phone can lead to actual locations in the world.
- You can sometimes find the people who made those posts.
- Videos and posts can therefore lead to things happening physically in the open world.
- The phone and open world are much more interconnected.
Phone Apps
- RideMe is the Uber/Lyft-style app.
- What Up is the messaging/WhatsApp-style app.
- BuckMe is the banking/cash app.
- Snapmatic returns as a social-media app.
- A fitness app tracks workout-related information.
- WAiNK provides information about vehicles.
Fitness App
- The phone includes a dedicated fitness app.
- It can tell you when your character should work out.
WAiNK Vehicle App
- WAiNK can identify information about vehicles you are looking at.
- It can tell you what tool is needed to break into a vehicle.
- Possible tools include a Slim Jim.
- Possible tools include a key cloner.
- An immobiliser bypass is also mentioned.
- It can show how much a vehicle can be sold for.
- It can show how much the vehicle costs to register as your own.
Personal Vehicles
- Simply stealing a car does not automatically make it your personal vehicle.
- Stolen vehicles can be taken to a garage.
- You need to pay to officially register a stolen vehicle as your own.
- Different vehicles can have different registration costs.
Hair Customisation
- Hair can be cut shorter at your safehouse.
- Facial hair can be shaved at your safehouse.
- Longer or different hairstyles require visiting a barber/hair salon.
- Barbers provide a much larger selection of hairstyles.
- GTA VI does not use RDR2's system where your hair has to physically grow to unlock longer styles.
- You can visit a barber and choose whichever available hairstyle you want.
- TGG says he is still unsure whether any natural hair growth happens at all.
NPC Interactions
- RDR2-style NPC interactions return.
- You can target NPCs while unarmed using L2.
- You can greet NPCs.
- You can antagonise NPCs.
- Different NPCs react differently to the player.
- NPC types can be identified.
- TGG specifically saw NPCs labelled as tourists.
Jason and Lucia in Free Roam
- Jason and Lucia react to situations involving each other.
- TGG watched an NPC begin shoving Jason after being antagonised.
- Lucia automatically stepped in and hit the NPC.
- Rob did not manually command Lucia to do it.
- Jason and Lucia therefore appear capable of defending each other dynamically in free roam.
NPC AI
- NPC behaviour is still being actively tuned.
- TGG watched Rob notice an NPC reacting more aggressively than intended.
- Rob immediately made a note of the behaviour for the development team.
- Some NPC behaviour seen in preview footage therefore may still change before release.
NPC Density
- Pedestrian density has been significantly increased.
- NPCs have a much larger variety of heights than GTA V or RDR2.
- Rockstar says creating the greater height variety was technically challenging.
- Crowds should therefore have much more varied silhouettes.
- NPCs also react differently depending on the weapon you are carrying.
Overall
- Rockstar seems to be taking a lot of RDR2's world-interaction ideas and adapting them to GTA's faster style.
- Public transport, shops, phones, food, vehicles and NPCs all seem much more interactive.
- A lot of things that were basically background decoration in GTA V now appear to have an actual function.
- There are also clearly still systems being adjusted and playtested before release.

GTA VI Gta 6 is so detailed people have to find any little mistake to be negative. Let that sink in. They're basically this meme.
It's pathetic how many posts not just in here but in general nitpick EVERYTHING. "OMG THE BOTTLE APPEARED OUT OF NO WHERE, BRO THEY FORGOT TO PUT A STRAP ON THE SHOTGUN JASON HAS MAGNETS HAHAHA, THE BACK FLIP INTO THE WATER LOOKS SO WERID AND LIKE AI" "2 BILLION DOLLAR GAME WITH 13 YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT, THIS GAME IS GOING TO SUCK"
People are so fucking weird it just goes to show you how well this game is by the lack of any real criticism. Like a post here I just saw calling out that Lucia puts away a phone even tho show has a dress on.
